This study aims to map and investigate the contribution of the tourism sector to economic development in 34 regencies/cities in East Java. As one of the main drivers of economic growth, this study examines the impact of tourism across the province. Utilizing data from 2019 and 2023 provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics, this research employs a descriptive quantitative approach and analyzes various macroeconomic indicators through linear correlation analysis with a four-quadrant scatter plot. These indicators include the total Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices in the accommodation and food service sector, economic growth, Gini ratio, poverty rate, and unemployment rate. This analysis aims to achieve several objectives. First, to evaluate the impact of tourism on the overall economy of East Java. Second, to investigate the role of tourism in poverty and unemployment reduction. Lastly, the study focuses on developing integrated and sustainable tourism strategies to maximize the sector's contribution to the local economy. By assessing the performance of the tourism sector and identifying existing challenges and opportunities, this research is expected to provide a solid foundation for formulating effective and optimal tourism development strategies in East Java.

Abstract

The halal travel industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global Islamic economic ecosystem. As the number of the world's Muslim population increases, the need for tourism services in accordance with sharia principles is also increasing. This study aims to predict the market share (market size) of the global halal travel industry using historical data for the period 2012–2017. Data was obtained from the Global Islamic Economics Report (GIER) 2018 published by Thomson Reuters. The analysis methods used include Trend Analysis, Multiplicative Decomposition, and Exponential Smoothing with Trend with the help of POM-QM software version 3. The results of the study show that in general, the market share of the global halal travel industry has experienced a significant increasing trend. Based on the forecasting accuracy indicator measured through the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) value, the Trend Analysis and Multiplicative Decomposition methods show a relatively better level of accuracy than the Exponential Smoothing with Trend method. These findings are expected to be a reference for policymakers and industry players in formulating strategies for the development of the halal travel industry at the global level.

Hajj financial management is a strategic issue in the Islamic public financial system, considering the large amount of funds collected from millions of prospective pilgrims every year. In Indonesia, the management task is carried out by the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH-Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji) as mandated by Law Number 34 of 2014. The results of the study show that Hajj financial investment is not only oriented towards achieving returns, but also emphasizes the principles of prudence, sharia compliance, protection of pilgrims' funds, and the creation of value benefits for the benefit of the people. BPKH implements diversification of investment instruments, layered governance, and a structured risk management system to maintain the sustainability of hajj funds. This article is expected to enrich the literature on the management of hajj funds and become a reference for the development of Islamic social finance policies in Indonesia and other Muslim countries.

Sustainable wellness tourism is one of the tourism segments that is growing rapidly as global awareness of health, well-being, and environmental sustainability increases. This research aims to map the development of global research related to sustainable wellness tourism and identify key themes and future research opportunities. The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach through meta-analysis and bibliometrics-based literature studies on 237 Scopus indexed journal articles. The analysis was performed using the VOSviewer software to visualize the keyword, author, and research cluster maps. The results of the analysis show that sustainable wellness tourism research is grouped into seven main clusters, namely the socio-economic impact of health tourism, the competitiveness of sustainable wellness destinations, wellness tourism during health crises, the integration of ecotourism and sustainability, community-based wellness tourism, cultural and recreational wellness tourism, and the spa tourism economy. These findings confirm that sustainable wellness tourism not only contributes to improving the health and well-being of tourists, but also plays a strategic role in local economic development, environmental conservation, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research makes a conceptual contribution by presenting a comprehensive research map as well as recommendations for future research directions that are more integrative and sustainability-based.
