Abstract

This study attempts to Improving Students™ Vocabulary achievement Trough Word Webbing Technique. The objective of the study is to discover whether the use of word webbing technique could significantly improving students™ vocabulary. This study conduct by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of this study of SMPN 4 Takengon, Aceh Tengah which consisted of 40 students. The quantitative data were collected by using observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and diary field. Based on the vocabulary test score, students™ score kept improving in every test. The mean of students™ score cycle (80) was higher than the fist cycle (67,75) and orientation test (55.25). based on observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and diary field, it was found that teaching learning process ran well. The students were more active and more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in the second cycle than the first one. The result of the research showed that is use of word webbing technique significantly improving students™ vocabulary. Keywords : Word Webbing Technique, Action Research

Abstract

This study was attempted to discover the improvement students™ vocabulary mastery by using realia for elementary students™ Grade IV. The objective of this study was to find out whether realia can significantly improve students™ vocabulary or not. In this study, the writer was conducted by Applying Classroom Research. The subject of this study was one class of the grade IV students™ of SD Negeri 060811 Medan which consisted of 36 students™. The quantitative data were taken from vocabulary test as the instrument to find out the students™ score. The qualitative data taken from diary notes and observation sheet describe the improvement of the students™ vocabulary mastery of the students™ vocabulary mastery was mostly improved in every test. The range of improvement of the first test and the last test was 83,33%.  The observation sheet and the diary notes showed that the students™ were interested in the teaching learning process. These finding show that there was an improvement on the students™ vocabulary through realia that was supported by the result, the mean score of the second test (64,44) was better than mean score of first test (39,17), and the mean score of the third test (78,05) was better than the mean score of the second test. This implies that realia can be an alternative strategy in improving students™ vocabulary mastery. It is suggested that realia to be used in teaching vocabulary especially to young learners. Abstract

This study is concerned with pragmatics, focusing on the types of speech acts used in Julia Gillard™s Speeches. This research was conducted by using qualitative descriptive design. There are four text™s speeches of Julia Gillard in this study taken from internet, There were 241 utterances. The results of data analysis showed the total numbers were: declarative 3,7%, representative 52,7%, expressive 6,2%, directive 12,0%, commissive 25,3%. It means that representative form is the most dominant type of speech acts used in Julia Gillard™s speeches. It is 52,7%. Representative is dominant because the speaker who delivered the speech is only person who becomes the center of attention and they are campaign or political speeches. Usually, the speakers would promote about their self and talk about their potency to be a good leader with all their goals to convince the hearer.   Keywords: Pragmatics, Speech Acts, Political Speech

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with improving stuudents™ achievement in reading comprehension through natural approach. The objective of this study is to iinvestigate whether there is any significant improvement of the students™ achievement in reading comprehension when it is taught by using natural approach. The subject of the study was Grade XI students of  Nasrani 3 Private Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta Nasrani 3) Medan. There were thirty one students. They were taught by using Natural Approach. The instrument for data collection were teacher made test, observation sheet and questionaire. The techniques of data analysis applied were quantitative and qualitative. In analysing the data, the students were given three reading tests namely, Orientation Test, Test Cycle I and Test Cycle II. The mean of the students™ score for the first reading test as Orientation test was 51.61 the second reading test as Cycle I test was 66.61 and the third reading test as Cycle II test was 76.61. The total percentage of the improvement from the first reading test to the third was 77.41%. the conclusion is that the procedures of natural approach can improve the students™ achievement in reading comprehension. The qualitative data shows that the students were enthusiastic and interested in reading comprehension. It is suggested that teachers should apply Natural Approach as one of the media in improving students™ achievement in reading comprehension. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempts to improve students™ achievement in reading comprehension through team pair solo. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was class VIII2 MTs Al-jihad which consisted of 41 students. The research was conducted in two cycles, cycle I consisted of four meetings and cycle II consisted of two meetings. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative data (reading comprehension test) and qualitative data (diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet). Based on reading comprehension scores, students™ score kept improving in every reading comprehension test. Based on diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet, it was found that the teaching-learning process ran well. The students were active, interested, and enthusiastic in reading. The result of the research showed that team pair solo significantly improved students™ achievement in reading comprehension. Key Words: reading, reading comprehension, team pair solo

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with the students™ achievement improvement in writing procedure texts by using videos by applying classroom action research. The subjects of this research were 38 students of class X-1 SMA TELADAN MEDAN. After analyzing the data in two cycles of classroom action research, it was found there was an improvement of students™ mean score from 60.44 in assessment before applying video became 68.52 in cycle I and improved again became 78.89 in cycle II. It means that the use of video significantly improves the students™ achievement in writing procedure texts. Keywords: writing, procedure text, action research, videos, X-I SMA Teladan Medan.

Abstract

Abstract This research attempts to improve students™ writing recount achievement by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). The result showed the improvement of students™ writing recount achievement. It was found that the mean of the students™ scores in every test was improved. In the first test, the mean was 53.8 and there was 8.3% of the students who got up 70 points (Minimum Completeness Criteria), in the second test, it was 68.7 and 50% of the students who got up 70 points, and in the last one, the mean was 78.4 and there was 97.2% of the students who got up 70 points. The result of the research showed the progress of achievement scores. Based on the diary note, observation sheet, questionnaire sheet and interview sheet it shows that the students felt enthusiastic, enjoyable, and active in learning recount text through Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). It can be concluded that Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) gives contribution to improve students™ writing recount achievement. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempts to improve students™ vocabulary achievement through anagram technique. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of this study was grade VIII students of SMP N I Bandar. The number of the students was thirty one students, consisted of ten boys twenty one girls. They were taught through anagram technique. The instrument used were vocabulary tests, diary notes, interview sheet, questionnaire sheet and observation sheet. The technique of data analysis were quantitative and qualitative. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students™ score for the first vocabulary test as orientation was 38,70, for the second vocabulary test as a cycle I test was 66,29, for the third vocabulary test as cycle II test was 82,74. The total percentage of the improvement from the first reading test to the third reading test was 7,12%. The conclusion is that anagram technique can improve the students™ vocabulary achievement. The qualitative data show that the students were more interested and motivated on vocabulary achievement through anagram. It is suggested that teachers should apply anagram technique as one of methods to improve students™ achievement in vocabulary. Keywords: Anagram technique, Action research

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempted to improve students™ achievement in writing narrative text by applying Problem Based Learning technique. This study was conducted by using clasroom action research. The subject of this research was the students of  VIII science SMP I BARUMUN TENGAH PADANG LAWAS with the total 40 students. The esearches conducted in two cycles consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting the date were tests, diary notes, observation sheets, and interview. Based on the date analysis, the mean of the students™ score for the orientation test was 51. 52 for test I (cycle 1) was 39. 61 and for test II (cycle 2) was 58. 76. The conclution is Problem Based Learning technique can improve the students™ achievement in writing narrative text. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Writing, Narrative Text
