Abstract

This article focuses on one of the founding figures of the Sunni school of Islamic jurisprudence who contributed to the development of Islamic law, Abu Hanifah. Studying Abu Hanifahs literature can better understand his thoughts and views on Islamic legal issues. It can also provide greater insight into the history of Islamic thought and how Abu Hanifahs thoughts impact Muslim society today. This study uses the heuristic method with critical literature analysis because the data is obtained from various books, journals, and other documentation relevant to the historical approach. The results of this study state that the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence is one of the famous schools of Islamic jurisprudence in the scientific discipline of Islamic law founded by Abu Hanifah. His background and education strongly influence Abu Hanifahs thinking pattern in determining the law. It is also inseparable from the socio-cultural dimension and the politics that underlie the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence, which is seen as a factor affecting Islamic laws rational character. Literature on studying Islamic law in the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence is widely found and spread worldwide. The school of Islamic jurisprudence is even adopted by one-third of the worlds Muslim population. However, remember that some of Abu Hanifahs written works may no longer be available or incomplete. Over time, some manuscripts may be damaged or lost.

Abstract

Gambling activity is one of the stories in the dynamics history of Indonesia. Its history can be traced from colonial to post-colonial times. In more contemporary times, gambling has even become a kind of commodity that is taken advantage of to cover the shortage of government funds. This habit became a polemic when gambling became a "disease" that was dangerous for society. To overcome this, various community groups are trying to eradicate gambling activities. Several questions were formulated, including: How did the emergence of gambling in Indonesia, its use, and the consequences? What was the process of eradicating gambling in Indonesia from the Soekarno government until the New Order government? Meanwhile, the research method used was a historical research method. The result of this study is that the process of eradicating gambling does not appear instantly. From the 1950s to the 1960s, it was filled with resolutions from social organizations. These resolutions apparently could not produce satisfactory results. In fact, in the following period, the government used gambling as an alternative economic source by imposing a tax on gambling. The struggle to eradicate gambling gained momentum in the 1990s when Muslims politically became the main consideration for the authorities at that time. The result of the movement was able to force the government to stop gambling nationally in 1993.

Abstract

Before the arrival of Islam, they are known as the jahiliyyah. It shows a historical fact that the position of women is always placed in the position of objects and occupies the second position after men. The position of women is considered less favorable, so women are often used as objects of exploitation that exceed human limits. Then Islam came with teachings that respect the position of women in various aspects of life. The existence of a long journey about the position of women is interesting to analyze and important to study in depth. This research is an Islamic social history research using historical research methods: Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation, and Historiography. At this stage, the author presents the results of the synthesis obtained. This study aims to enrich the historical treasures of Islamic civilization related to the development of the position of women. However, the dynamics of the development of women's position also have many scientific sources that need to be studied more comprehensively. That is, we need to look at events far back to be able to analyze the dynamics of women's positions. The conclusion of this paper explains that in pre-Islamic perspectives starting from Greek, Roman, Jewish, Hindu, and Chinese civilizations, as well as pre-Islamic Arabs, it shows that women occupy a position as inferior until then Islam comes to change their social status with the concept of equality.

Abstract

It must be admitted that there is indeed much research related to religious moderation, but there needs to be more research, especially when it comes to intellectual history discourse. As a contextual discourse, intellectual history still needs sufficient study space among Indonesian academics. Therefore, this study uses an intellectual history perspective to examine religious moderation discourse. Strengthening the study, the authors use the thoughts of Koentjaraningrat and Julian Huxley, who use an anthropological scientific lens to view the discourse of religious moderation. This research is the form of a literature review using the results of research related to intellectual history and the two figures as primary reference sources. Collecting data was carried out by re-reading the text, compiling it, and formulating it to analyze the mentifact, sociofact, and artefact aspects of the discourse of religious moderation. This research produces an academic offer to strengthen the epistemological structure of the discourse of religious moderation by dissecting it through these three dimensions, namely mentifact, sociofact, and artefact. The findings of this research offer the hierarchical relationship on the epistemological of religious moderation (the high ideas, the intermediate ideas, and the lower ideas).

Abstract

The chronological account of Maqtal al-Hossein is a literary work that has been preserved and has become a source of inspiration for the formation of the collective identity of the Shi'a. However, Maqtal al-Hossein as a literary work, written based on the subjective understanding of its author, also leaves traces of distortion in the writing of Maqtal al-Hossein itself. This article aims to illustrate the gradual shift of Maqtal al-Hossein's narrative from historical to fictional. This article discusses (1) A discussion of the history of the writing of Maqtal al-Hossein as a development of literacy by previous writers, followed by a review of the history of the writing of the historical kitab Maqtal al-Hossein from the second century to the writing of Maqtal al-Hossein in the tenth century Hijri. (2). A review of the critical analysis of the text of the hadiths of Maqtal al-Hossein that indicated fiction from the third century Hijri to the tenth century Hijri in the two kitabs of Maqtal al-Hossein in the third century and Maqtal al-Hossein in the seventh century Hijri. The conclusion of this article shows that the writing of Maqtal al-Hossein from the period of the third century Hijri to the tenth century Hijri provides an argument about the shift in the historical value of writing the history of Maqtal al-Hossein, from historical facts to fictional narratives. Meanwhile, the writing of Maqtal al-Hossein from the tenth century was also influenced by the various interests of Islamic power at that time.

Abstract

The Banten Sultanate was a pre-Indonesian Islamic kingdom from the 16th to early 19th centuries. Banten developed as a kingdom based on trade, its main commodity being pepper. In the 17th century, pepper became a spice with high value, so Banten used it as a diplomatic tool apart from being a trade commodity. As the destination of many foreign traders, it encouraged Banten to communicate with several kingdoms. Through historical research methods and a literature review, this article attempts to see diplomacy as one of the political activities of pre-Indonesian kingdoms. As a result, it can be seen that the Banten Sultanate carried out its diplomatic activities with several kingdoms, for example, Mecca (Ottoman), the Netherlands, England, Denmark, and France. This activity can be known from Banten's correspondence with the foreign kingdom and is supported by the chronicle narrative as colonial historiography. In this activity, the sultan of Banten often included several gifts, one of which was a large amount of pepper. Therefore, letters and other manuscripts can show Banten's position in diplomacy with other kingdoms, and pepper has an important role.
