Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in Indonesia’s economy by creating jobs, providing goods and services, and supporting local innovation. Despite this, many MSMEs still face difficulties in financial management, especially in transaction recording and reporting. Kedai Mikaba, a culinary MSME in Pekalongan, encountered challenges due to the absence of a structured bookkeeping system. Transactions were noted manually and often incompletely, making it difficult to monitor cash flow, prepare profit and loss statements, and make informed business decisions. This community service project aimed to design and implement an accounting system using Google Sheets as a practical, low-cost, and adaptive solution. The method applied was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which actively involved the business owner in observation, interviews, system design, training, and implementation. Results showed clear improvements in transparency, accuracy, and consistency of financial records. The owner is now able to record daily transactions, view recaps in real time, and generate automatic profit and loss reports. This process not only simplified financial management but also raised awareness of systematic bookkeeping as a foundation for sustainability. Google Sheets thus demonstrates potential as an effective tool for MSMEs, while future development may focus on mobile-based applications for greater accessibility.

Abstract

The issue of pollution along the Paser River, caused by the community’s habit of indiscriminately disposing of waste, prompted KKN students to design the Operasi Taman Pinggir Kali (OPETAPIKA) program as a community-based empowerment initiative. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Opetapika by employing the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which actively involves the community in every stage of the program. The findings reveal that Opetapika successfully transformed the riverbanks once filled with waste into a simple, clean, and green riverside park, while simultaneously fostering community participation, a sense of ownership, and collective responsibility for environmental sustainability. Despite challenges in maintaining consistent participation, the direct involvement of residents and students proved effective in encouraging behavioral change. Thus, Opetapika can be concluded as a sustainable environmental empowerment model with strong potential for replication in other regions facing similar challenges.

Abstract

Business management mentoring and product quality improvement are strategic efforts to support the development of MSMEs to enable them to compete in an increasingly competitive market. This community service activity was carried out at the Pizza Ukhti MSME in Kediri, with the aim of improving managerial capacity and product quality. The methods used included observation, simple financial record-keeping training, product quality improvement workshops, packaging design mentoring, and implementation monitoring for 1-2 weeks. The results of the activity showed an increase in MSME owners' understanding of business management, improvements in more efficient production processes, consistent product quality, and more attractive packaging. This activity also increased the confidence of business owners in running their businesses independently and professionally. This mentoring based on a practical and sustainable approach is expected to be replicated in other MSMEs to support sustainable local economic empowerment.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on the issue of low reproductive health literacy among students at SDN 1 Cikembar, Cikembar Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency, particularly regarding menstruation, puberty, and Islamic values. Many students in grades 5 and 6, totaling 80 individuals, are influenced by myths and lack accurate information, leading to embarrassment and confusion in addressing physical changes. The objective of this service is to enhance students’ understanding of reproductive health, reduce stigma, and strengthen Islamic values in navigating puberty. The approach employed is a community-based outreach method with interactive strategies, including visual presentations, small group discussions, and Q&A sessions, conducted in a one-hour session. Students of Islamic Education (PAI) served as facilitators, integrating scientific explanations with Islamic values of purity (thaharah) and religious responsibility. Initial data were collected through observations and interviews to tailor the material to students’ needs. The results show significant improvements, with 85% of students understanding the menstrual cycle and hygiene practices, 80% comprehending religious obligations post-puberty, and 90% of female students feeling more comfortable discussing menstruation. Male students also demonstrated increased empathy (75%) toward their female peers’ changes. The activity successfully created a supportive discussion environment and reduced stigma, although time constraints posed a challenge. This service provides a tangible contribution to student empowerment and serves as a model for similar programs in other schools.

Abstract

This community service aims to empower rural communities in Afghanistan by constructing a comprehensive multidimensional framework to address structural barriers hindering development in fragile contexts characterized by persistent instability. The primary goal is to enhance community agency and resilience through targeted, sustainable interventions. To achieve this, the study employed a rigorous mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative in-depth interviews conducted with local leaders, residents, and development practitioners across five diverse provinces with a detailed quantitative analysis of national datasets. The method specifically focused on identifying key drivers of development by examining interactions between education access, livelihood diversification initiatives, and local governance structures. The results reveal that integrated strategies emphasizing equitable access to education, vocational training for economic resilience, and decentralized local governance structures significantly enhance community adaptive capacity. Furthermore, findings indicate that engaging traditional and religious leaders is not only crucial for project legitimacy but also ensures long-term sustainability of development outcomes. In conclusion, this service provides an evidence-based, context-specific roadmap for policymakers to foster inclusive rural development in conflict-affected societies, ensuring interventions are adaptable to local cultural and political realities while effectively addressing the complexities of the current environment.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how digital literacy education can help improve the learning experience of elementary school students at SDN Cikareo, a school in a rural area. This research was motivated by the limited technological facilities in rural schools and the lack of exposure of students to the use of digital technology in learning. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study collected data through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The digital literacy activities carried out included PowerPoint presentations, educational video screenings, Canva-based interactive quizzes, and drawing activities brought to life with artificial intelligence applications. The results showed positive responses from students, marked by increased motivation, enthusiasm, and active involvement in the learning process. These findings also revealed that digital literacy not only enriches the learning experience but also opens up new opportunities to develop students' interests and talents, such as animation and digital games. In conclusion, digital literacy education is a relevant learning strategy to overcome facility limitations in rural schools and equip students with 21st-century skills. This research contributes significantly to expanding access and optimizing the quality of education in remote areas.

Abstract

This community engagement program aimed to enhance the digital capacity of small and medium catering business owners through structured training in using a Retail Management System (RMS). The training was conducted in multiple phases, including system introduction, simulation, and real-time transaction practice. A total of 18 MSME participants were guided through practical modules such as sales input, inventory tracking, and digital receipt generation. Post-training results indicated a significant increase in participants’ confidence and efficiency, with many reducing manual recordkeeping by more than 50%. Beyond technical skills, the program fostered digital literacy and encouraged data-driven decision-making within daily operations. This initiative contributes to the digital transformation of food service MSMEs and presents a scalable model for empowering small businesses through targeted technology adoption.

Abstract

The study examines how Bangladesh’s parliamentary government system functioned during the 8th Parliament and how its legislative, budgetary, and constitutional activities impacted democratic development at both national and grassroots levels, with a special focus on a ward in Rajshahi. It combines qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, interviews, and analysis of parliamentary documents, to assess the roles of ruling and opposition parties, patterns of political confrontation, and citizens’ perceptions of governance and accountability. The findings show that, despite intense polarization, frequent boycotts, and procedural controversies, the 8th Parliament contributed to institutional change through extensive legislation, constitutional amendment, and repeated budget cycles, while simultaneously weakening deliberative culture and inclusive participation. Survey evidence from Ward 28 of Motihar Thana reveals significant popular awareness of parliamentary activities and generally positive, though critically nuanced, attitudes toward the parliament’s contribution to democratic development. Finally, the research argues that the 8th Parliament played a contradictory but formative role, advancing formal democratic structures yet constraining substantive democratic practice in Bangladesh.

Abstract

Peer group interaction plays a significant role in shaping students’ social behaviour and academic engagement, especially at the upper basic school level where peer influence is strong. This study examined the impact of peer group interaction on the social behaviour and academic engagement of 384 upper basic school students in Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. A descriptive survey design was adopted. Data were collected using the validated Peer Group Interaction, Social Behaviour, and Academic Engagement Questionnaire (PGISBAEQ) and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that peer group interaction significantly influences students’ social behaviour (R = 0.612, R² = 0.375, β = 0.612, t = 15.12, p < 0.05) and academic engagement (R = 0.658, R² = 0.433, β = 0.658, t = 17.97, p < 0.05). Positive peer interactions enhanced cooperation, respect for school rules, social skills, and motivation to participate in academic activities, while negative peer pressure occasionally resulted in minor undesirable behaviours. The study concludes that peer interaction is a strong predictor of students’ social adjustment and academic participation. It recommends structured peer-mediated learning, collaborative activities, and mentorship programmes to harness positive peer influence for improved social and academic outcomes.
