Abstract

There are approximately 50 million cases of dengue fever every year, and 40% of the population is at risk of being infected with the dengue virus. Apart from utilizing government programs through the 3M program, dengue prevention measures can be taken by sowing larvicide. However, the use of chemical larvicides has disadvantages, such as repeated use of chemical larvicides carries the risk of contamination of pesticide residues in water, especially drinking water, and repeated use results in the emergence of resistance from various mosquito species. Research on plants with the potential to be larvicidal and repellent or mosquito repellents has proven that plants can be used as mosquito repellents, therefore it can eliminate the population level of the Aedes mosquito as a vector for transmitting dengue fever. The results of the research require to be introduced to the community, because indirectly reduce the occurrence of dengue fever cases in a village. The aim of this community service is to provide education to the public regarding Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and information about plants that have the potential to repel mosquitoes as an effort to eliminate vectors that transmit dengue fever. This community service also aims to measure community knowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever and its prevention. Educational activities regarding dengue hemorrhagic fever, prevention methods and socialization of plants that have the potential to repel dengue vectors were carried out on September 14 2023 in Taipa village, Lembo district, North Konawe district. In the education provided, it was seen that the participants were very active in asking questions about things they did not understand. The percentage increase in public knowledge regarding Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever after being given education was 76%.

Abstract

Low high density lipoprotein level is one of the dyslipidemia conditions that can increase the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver. Public knowledge about the different functions of fat components, especially HDL, is important to reduce the incidence of fatty liver including other complications such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular-related diseases. This activity aims to educate the public about the function of HDL as well as determine the HDL levels of each individual. This activity involved a team of lecturers, students of Poltekkes Kemenkes Kendari, media and 40 community members of Awila Village, Molawe District, North Konawe Regency as participants. This activity includes education, interactive discussions and checking community HDL levels. From the results of the activity, the post-education post-test results increased to 65% from 45% in the pre-test. The HDL level check showed that 55% of the participants had low HDL levels. Educational activities regarding the protective function and food sources high in HDL still need to be done in the community to improve the mindset related to fat and increase public awareness of the complications caused by the disease.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are a group at higher risk of developing anemia compared to adolescent boys with a prevalence in Indonesia of 26.5%. One of the causes of these nutritional problems is a lack of knowledge about anemia. Efforts that can be made to reduce the problem of anemia are by providing nutrition education. The implementation of this nutrition education aims to increase adolescent girls' knowledge about anemia. This nutrition education was carried out at SMAN 1 Soropia with 30 young women as subjects. The method used in this nutrition education is the counseling method with presentations about iron deficiency anemia using pocket books, PowerPoint, and two-way discussions. and the results of nutrition education were tested using the paired t test.   This community service program was carried out by a team of lecturers from the Nutrition Department, Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health, Kendari, involving students. This activity will be carried out in September 2024.  The results showed that the nutritional knowledge score increased from 80.8 to 87.7, there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in the knowledge score about anemia before and after counseling.  These results indicate that nutrition education using pocket books can increase knowledge about anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Washing hands with soap and consuming fruits and vegetables are indicators of PHBS (Clean and Healthy Living Behavior) in the household setting. This outreach activity aims to increase the knowledge of children and teenagers about the importance of washing hands with soap (CTPS) and consuming fruits and vegetables to maintain health. The outreach method combines lectures, Q&A sessions, and the use of visual media such as posters. The posters contain the correct steps for washing hands with soap and running water, as well as the benefits of consuming fruits and vegetables. This combination of methods helps to convey health messages in an engaging and easily understandable way for children and teenagers. The results of the outreach activity show an increase in knowledge and understanding among children and teenagers, as evidenced by their ability to correctly answer the statements we provided. Therefore, this activity needs to be conducted regularly to ensure continuous understanding, thereby helping to prevent diseases and promote a healthy lifestyle within the household.

Abstract

The impact of globalization and the advancement of information technology development has an impact on rapid social changes. The social changes in question include an increase in premarital sex behavior, extramarital pregnancy carried out by adolescents, as a result of changes in the values of family and community life. Reproductive health education is a very important strategy to prevent adolescents from falling into promiscuous sexual behaviors that endanger their reproductive health.  Parents as the closest parties must have the knowledge and skills to provide reproductive health education to adolescents. However, there are still many parents in Bajoe village who still have low knowledge and skills in providing reproductive health education to their adolescents. This Community Service Program aims to build a "BERSAHAJA" family that is friendly with adolescents by equipping parents with knowledge and skills about adolescent reproductive health and ways to deal with their problems.  The method to achieve this goal is by training community leaders, health cadres and parents, especially mothers as the family side that is most talked to by adolescents about reproductive health. The main material of this training is Adolescent Reproductive Health and ways to overcome the problem, as well as how parents can become adolescent friends. The target of the program is families who have teenagers in Bajoe Village, Soropia District, Konawe Regency. The training was conducted within 2 days. The number of trainees is 30 families. The results of the activity showed that 100% of participants had good knowledge after participating in the training and 83% of participants had a good attitude related to reproductive health.
