Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can cause bone damage and cause disability. The most common and dominant symptom is pain, especially swelling in the morning. There is a way to treat pain in rheumatoid arthritis patients with massage. Massage has the effect of reducing anxiety and muscle tension. This muscle massage stimulation is enriched to stimulate delta-A nerve fibers and C fibers and releases substance P in the afferent nerves, where there are mechanoreceptors (tactile apparatus: skin) as a defense mechanism, and in the central cortex, the descending nerves release endogenous. opiates, namely endorphins produced by the pituitary as a pain reliever. So, it can block or reduce pain impulses. This study aims to determine the effect of massage on reducing pain intensity in rheumatoid arthritis patients. This research uses a literature review design using 2 databases, namely PubMed and Scopus. The results showed that in journal research, giving massage for ± 15 minutes every day resulted in reduced pain and anxiety. In the journal, rheumatoid arthritis sufferers had a decrease in the quality of pain using back massage therapy with p=0.05. The conclusion of this study shows that the use of massage therapy is effective for patients with rheumatoid arthritis who experience pain.

Abstract

The number of birth deliveries attended by unskilled traditional birth attendants was still high. A lot of women like to do ANC, but eventually, they choose traditional birth attendants to help them in the childbirth process. The research aims to analyze factors related to women's choice of traditional birth attendants in the childbirth process at the work area of Bandung Health Center, Serang, Banten, in 2018. This is descriptive quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The population is 115 women who gave birth in the work area of Bandung Health Center, Serang, Banten, during May and June of 2018. The sample is a total population. The dependent variable is the women's choice of traditional birth attendants, and the dependent variables are education, knowledge, socio-economic status, and the distance of the women's houses to the Health Center. The results show that among all independent variables, three of them are related to women's choice of birth attendants in childbirth. They are education (p=0.036), knowledge (p=0.015), and Accessibility to Health Care Facility (p=0.008). There is no relationship between socioeconomic status and women's choice of birth attendants in childbirth (p=0.148). Future research should explore more variables that might contributed to women's choice of traditional birth attendants. Education intervention is needed to increase the knowledge of the community regarding the importance of using healthcare facilities during childbirth.

Abstract

Research in the United States around 70% to 80% of mothers who give birth expect the birth to take place without feeling pain. Currently, 20% to 50% of deliveries in private hospitals in Indonesia are carried out by Caesarean section. The current trend is for mothers to choose to give birth via cesarean section to avoid pain during normal birth. This study was to determine the effect of using a birthball on the intensity of labor pain during the first active phase. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest two-group design. The population of this study is all mothers giving birth normally at the Az-Zahra clinic. The sample in the study consisted of 30 respondents. The research instrument uses the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) sheet. Data were analyzed using the Paired T-test and Independent T-test. The average pretest labor pain score in the experimental group was 7.13, while the post-test was 3.33, and the p-value was 0.489. The average pretest labor pain score in the control group was 6.53, while the post-test was 7.80, and the p-value was 0.044. The results of the Independent T-test showed a p-value of 0.489. Giving the Birthball method can reduce the intensity of labor pain during the first active phase. It is hoped that the Birthball method can be applied in all maternity clinics or independent midwives in Indonesia.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease that can cause various complications and is made worse by psychological distress, where cases are increasing at the Bangkalan Community Health Center. This research aims to analyze the correlation between spiritual meaning in regulating psychological distress and mean arterial pressure (MAP) in hypertension patients. This research method is correlation analytic with a cross-sectional approach with the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guideline. population of 76 patients and a sample of 62 taken using simple random sampling. The independent variable is spiritual meaning, measured using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES). Meanwhile, the dependent variable is distress, measured by the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale and the mean arterial pressure (MAP) value. The collected data was then subjected to statistical tests using Spearman ranks with an alpha value of 0.05. The research results show a relationship between spiritual meaning and psychological distress with a p-value of 0.016 < 0.05 and a correlation coefficient of -0.305. Spirituality is also significantly related to the mean arterial pressure (MAP) value with p value 0.005 < 0.05, and the correlation coefficient is -0.351. Spirituality has an impact on reducing psychological distress, affecting the function of the Hypothalamus Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) Axis and Sympathetic Adrenal Medullary (SAM) Axis. The SAM Axis will balance the secretion of norepinephrine (NE) and epinephrine (E), which affects the balance of contraction of smooth cardiac muscle cells, vasoconstriction and vasodilation, heart rate, and normalizes sodium levels so that it can control blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Vegetable farmers risk being infected with Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) due to frequent direct contact with soil contaminated by STH eggs. Worm infections transmitted through the soil cause disturbances in the tissues and organs of the body by taking nutrients from the vegetable growers' bodies, which can cause serious complications. The search process was carried out using a literature review using four databases, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct, WorldCat, and PubMed, with a publication range of 2018-2023. From all search results, ten articles match the research criteria. The results showed that vegetable farmers who have good personal hygiene can reduce the risk of STH infection. The presence of health workers here is expected to enable them to carry out health promotion, health education, and outreach to the community, especially to vegetable farmers, regarding good personal hygiene to prevent STH transmission.

Abstract

The prevalence of heart failure patients is steadily increasing worldwide. The quality of life among them was also shown to be decreasing day by day. Inadequate health-related quality of life in heart failure patients leads to an increase in mortality rate. Thus, effective management of heart failure patients is essential. The present study was to examine the intervention based on the six-minute walk test to improve health-related quality of life for patients with heart failure. A quasi-experimental study was conducted in the cardiovascular center of the acute care setting. The Six-minute Walk Test (6MWT), in accordance with the American Thoracic Society guideline, was implemented as the intervention procedure. The Minnesota Living with Heart Failure (MLWHF) was used to measure the health-related quality of life of patients. Fifteen heart failure patients enrolled in the study for a month; 73.3% were male with a mean age of 57.47 (SD 14.32). Overall, the health-related quality of life in heart failure patients was poor at the baseline of the study, then their quality of life significantly increased to good quality after implementing the 6MWT. An improvement in the functional performance was also found among them. This study indicates that the 6MWT was suitable, safe, and simply performed in heart failure patients, which can effectively improve the health-related quality of life of patients with heart failure.

Abstract

Snake bites are the one that causes high rates of morbidity and mortality among workers in the agricultural sector. Snake bites can be a medical emergency that can endanger human life, and snake venom can damage local tissues, resulting in permanent disability and amputation. This study aims to identify farmers' knowledge related to snakebite management. A literature review searched three databases, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed, for all study designs between 2019 and 2023. The researcher found ten studies that met the inclusion criteria in the review. The high risk of snake bites for farmers makes it essential for farmers to know the most critical things in snakebite management. When bitten by a snake, the most important thing to do is first aid treatment in a threatening situation. Some factors that can affect the management of snake bites on farmers are the characteristics of farmers who are usually male with a low educational background and level of knowledge. In addition, low experience will affect the ability to handle first aid. Nurses can be present as extension workers to increase farmers' knowledge about first aid for snake bites to farmers.
