This study aims to describe the forms and strategies of persuasive sentences usedin sales advertisements on the TikTok platform, focusing on the local account@TikLove.id. The background of this study is based on the importance oflanguage as the main tool in digital marketing communication, especially insocial media that demands speed, interactivity, and an emotional approach to theaudience. The aim is to describe the forms and strategies of persuasive sentencesthey use in advertising content. Using a qualitative descriptive method, researchers collected data in the form of 12 advertising sentences described interms of language form, communicative intent, and persuasive strategies applied. The results show that direct invitation sentences (imperatives) and exclamations(interjections) are most widely used. Strategies such as creating a sense ofurgency, building emotional closeness, and adjusting to the lifestyle of the digitalaudience are key to attracting attention. The novelty of this study lies in its specificapproach exploring persuasive language in short video content that is local, practical, and close to the daily lives of Indonesian people. Abstract

This study explores social dynamics and language transformation through the phenomenon of diglossia in Ambon language based on the perspective of Charles A. Ferguson. Diglossia in Ambon is the result of complex interactions between Indonesian and Ambon, which are influenced by social changes and shifts in the context of language use. This study focuses on the analysis of four main aspects of diglossia, namely functional, grammatical, lexicon, and phonology, in order to understand how language variations develop in various communication situations. Research data was collected through observation, documentation, and interviews with IAIN Ambon students. The results of the analysis show that the phenomenon of diglossia in Ambon language occurs due to the mixing of Indonesian as a prestige language with Ambon language which is more used in informal interactions. The shift in the situation from the formal to the informal realm contributes to changes in the structure of the language, both in terms of grammar, vocabulary choices, and phonological patterns used by speakers. The findings of this study confirm that social dynamics have a significant role in shaping patterns of language use in society, reflecting how language adapts to evolving social and cultural contexts. This study not only provides new insights in sociolinguistic studies, but also enriches the understanding of the development of regional languages in Indonesia in the context of bilingualism and diglossia.

Abstract

The title of this research is “Critical Discourse Analysis on Political Memes related to the Discourse on Strangling Tax Hikes on Social Media”. This research aims to analyze the text dimensions of political memes regarding tax increases on social media using the Critical Discourse Analysis (AWK) approach of Teun A. Van Dijk's model. This approach includes three main structures, namely macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure. The research used qualitative methods with data collection techniques through online observation and documentation. The data sources consist of five political memes taken from Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter), and are supported by official documents and mass media articles. The results show that in the macro structure, the main themes that emerge in the memes include criticism of the tax increase policy that is considered burdensome to the people, the 12% VAT burden, and a comparison with the obligation of zakat in Islamic teachings. The government is portrayed as if it is blackmailing the people through these fiscal policies. In the superstructure, varied schematic patterns were found, where most memes followed the flow of the title, main idea, and supporting ideas, while others did not fully follow the scheme. On the microstructure, the analysis identified the use of various stylistics, such as satire, hyperbole, rhetoric, comparison, and irony. Some memes utilize visual stylistics without explicit lingual elements but still convey sharp criticism of the government. This study concludes that political memes act as a medium of expression of social criticism of tax policy in Indonesia, represent public dissatisfaction, and show the economic inequality felt by the public.

Abstract

Whether in Asia or the West, most people view all Arab countries as a single group “the Arab world.” Few realize that the Arab world spans over two major regions: the Middle East and North Africa. Even fewer are aware of the differences between these two areas or the distinctions among individual countries within them. These differences are not only of a religious or legislative nature, but also linguistic and communicative. Much like people from different provinces in China, Arabs from different countries often face communication issues with fellow Arabs from abroad. However, research on the dialects of various Arab countries is quite limited and mostly centered on the Middle East. This study focuses on three North African countries—two of which belong to the Maghreb.

Abstract

Slick Write has emerged as a potential solution for improving writing teaching via real-time feedback and automated evaluation. Although current studies have investigated Slick Write's efficacy in facilitating writing tasks, there is a paucity of research on its incorporation within a systematic, pedagogically robust writing instruction framework. This study seeks to assess the efficacy of integrating Slick Write into a holistic writing teaching framework and its influence on enhancing students' academic writing abilities. This study utilized a descriptive research methodology and involved 20 junior high school students from grades 7 to 9 at a private institution in Medan, Indonesia. Writing assessments were conducted before and during the adoption of the Slick Write-integrated approach. The written outputs of students were evaluated utilizing the diagnostic elements of Slick Write, which included an analysis of pronouns, adverbs, function words, sentence and paragraph lengths, passive voice metrics, and prepositional phrase indices. The data were evaluated descriptively to identify patterns of improvement and trends in student performance. The results indicate that Slick Write substantially aids students in the writing process by facilitating the generation, organization, and refinement of their ideas with more independence. The students demonstrated enhanced understanding of linguistic mechanics and word choice. This study introduces a unique Slick Write-integrated educational framework that enhances autonomous learning while complementing instructor feedback. These findings drive home the importance of integrating technological tools such as Slick Write into writing pedagogy to improve writing outcomes and foster learner-centered instruction in higher education.

Abstract

The Pertamina corruption case has successfully captured the attention of the public, leading to frequent media coverage through online news with various framings that influence public perception. This research aims to investigate the framing of news regarding the Pertamina corruption case from the media Tempo and Media Indonesia using Fairclough's model. The data sources used are online news articles from Tempo and Media Indonesia related to the Pertamina corruption case. The data collected includes words, phrases, and sentences within the news texts related to the Pertamina corruption case in online news from Tempo and Media Indonesia. The method employed in this study is qualitative descriptive. This research uses Norman Fairclough's (1995) critical discourse analysis theory, which emphasizes three discourse dimensions. The results of this study indicate differences in framing between the two news media in the Pertamina corruption case. Tempo media framing builds a broader context by connecting the impact of Pertamina corruption in the economic sector, while Media Indonesia framing focuses on specific events with official statements without providing a broader context.

Abstract

This study discusses the mispronunciation of phonemes in Indonesian by foreignstudents from Timor Leste at Universitas Muria Kudus (UMK). The main purposeis to identify the forms of phonological errors as well as the factors causingphoneme pronunciation errors. This research used descriptive qualitativeapproach method, the data were collected through listening, recording, andinterview techniques. The results showed that errors mostly occurred in thechange of phonemes both consonants and vowels and the addition of consonantphonemes. These pronunciation errors are influenced by differences in thephonological system between the students' mother tongue and Indonesian.Although they do not cause changes in meaning, these errors have an impact onthe fluency of communication. Therefore, more intensive teaching of phoneticsand phonology is an important strategy to improve the language skills ofinternational students.
