The purpose of this study was to determine students’ motivation in learning English. This research is one of the influential factors in increasing student learning motivation. Learning success depends on the motivation of high or low students’ in learning. Motivation can encourage students to achieve learning goals in school. The research design in this study is descriptive quantitative survey research. The population of this study was all 11th grade students at SMAN 8 Kota Jambi. The sample used is random sampling. The researcher took students in each 11 IPA class with a total of 15% from each class in taking a sample of 6 people, and from all 11th grades IPA were 48 people as samples. The research instrument was a questionnaire, analysis of data using Likert analysis, percentage formula and to strengthen research, researcher also added interviews. The results of this study are indicated by students' answers in the questionnaire. There are 30 questions in the questionnaire. 15 questions for intrinsic motivation and 15 questions for extrinsic motivation. The calculation shows that students' intrinsic motivation score is 62% and extrinsic students are 38%. This means that students at SMAN 8 Kota Jambi have intrinsic motivation that is higher than extrinsic motivation in learning English.Keywords: English Learning, Motivation.

Literature is very complex phenomenon because it described about society life, and it is an expression of an author from their creative imaginations. Prose is ordinary language that people use in writing such as poetry, stories, editorials, books, and etcetera. Frankenstein is novel creation Mary Shelley; it was published on March 11, 1818. This novel tells about Doctor Victor Frankenstein as main character Victor Frankenstein wants to create the perfect creature by combining science and magic. Researcher though content analysis is the correct optional to analyze Moral Values on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The method that researcher used in this research is qualitative content analysis. Researcher result findings about moral values in the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley includes (1) Bravery, (2) Enthusiasm, (3) Kindhearted, (4) Love and Affection, (5) Loyalty, (6) Perseverance, and (7) Sincerity. For the next researcher, are expected by study the moral values in the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley can inspire similar advanced research, such as Moral Philosophy in the novel Frankenstein, or the ideology of the author in novel Frankenstein.Keywords: Moral Values, “Frankenstein” novel

This research was done aimed at investigating if audio visual as a media more effect for the students skill in writing procedure text. The method of this research is quantitative. The population of the research is the eighth grade students of SMPN 5Kota Jambi. The researcher takes two classes of the eighth grade students as the sample from this research which were divided into two groups; experimental group (XIII A) and control group (XIII B). The XIIIA was taught by using Audio Visual as a media, while the XIII B was taught without Audio Visual as media. The instruments of collecting data are test: pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data, the researcher used experimental design. The mean in control class of pre test is 71,66 and mean post test 75,66. The mean in experimental class of pre test is 74,33 and the mean post test is 84,83. Based on the calculation of the statistical analysis, it is found that the value of t-test was 4,05 is higher than the value of t-table 1,69 at the degree freedom (df 30-1) = 29 and the level of confidence 0,05 with for that reason, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the researcher could interpret that it was significantly effective to improve students writing procedure text using Audio Visual in SMPN 5 Kota Jambi. This research was done to analyze the grammatical error in writing descriptive text made by tenth grade students in SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Academic year 2018-2019. The method of the research was qualitative method. The sample of the research was tenth grade students of science at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. Then to get sample of this research, the researcher used random sampling technique. The data was collected by using written test. The finding of the research showed that tenth grade students of science often make grammatical error in their writing, the error are analyzed based on four types, there are Omission, Addition, Misformation and Misordering. After analyzing the data that got from 37 students, the researcher found out 147 total errors white decide to highest frequency and lowest frequency. The result showed that the highest frequency grammatical error made by students is Omission which 46,93% and the lowest frequency grammatical error made by students isaddition which is 6%. The cause of error in grammatical because learning a foreign language is not the same as learning the mother tongue, it is not the difficulty of the new forms of the language, but mainly by the specific conditions created by customs in native language.Keywords: Analysis, Grammatical Error, Writing, Descriptive Text.

This research was aimed to find out the effects of using interactive multimedia at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Jambi City in the academic year of 2019. The subject research was class VIIIB and VIIID. The instrument used in this thesis was test. In collecting the data, the researcher used pre-test. Before conducting post-test, the researcher gave treatment. After getting enough data, the researcher calculated the data using t-test. The result of this research was found the mean score of pre-test of Experiment class is 45.02 and the mean of post-test 80.48. To see whether the hypothesis is accepted or rejected, the significance value in the table above was .306, which means that the significance value is greater than 0.05, based on decision in the statistical correlation test, there is no relationship between pre-test and post-test. Paired sample t-test is used to determine whether there are difference can be seen from the sig value (2-tailed), the value in the table above is 0.000, so it can be concluded that the results of the effects of using Interactive Multimedia to increase students’ vocabulary are real significant on the pre-test and post-test data. Based on the result finding, it can be concluded that the data presented is there is an effects of using interactive multimedia towards students’ vocabulary mastery.

This research was aimed to find out whether there was significant effect of using powerpoint toward teaching writing analytical exposition at XI grade SMA Negeri 3 Jambi City. The kind of this research was quantitative research. The data collection involved 72 students, there was consist of 36 students of control class (XI MIPA 5) and 36 students of experimental class (XI MIPA 4) by giving the writing test. The research was Experimental and techniques of analyzing the data of this research apply quantitative data from the scores of pre-test and the scores of post-test. Based on the data, there was significant effect on the studets’ skill in writing analytical exposition text using powerpoint in the result of post-test in experimental class shows from mean of pre-test was 41,20 after doing the treatment with powerpoint there was significant effect of the result of the students’ mean is 71,06. The result of t-test shows that the result of significant value in the experimental class was 0.000<0,05 = there was significant between the result learning with pre-test and post-test data, it was shows that using powerpoint toward teaching writing analytical exposition text real significant to students’ skill ability in writing text.Keywords: PowerPoint, Analytical Exposition, Writing.

The objectives of the research are to how the effectiveness of Think Pair Share to teach reading comprehension. The method used in this research was Think Pair Share technique. The subject of the research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Jambi. There are 36 students of the eighth class E, and 36 students of the eighth class F. The conclusion in this research is a significant difference of the effects on the students’ reading comprehension between those who were taught using Think Pair Share and those who were taught without using think Pair Share. It can be proved from the score result of Null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted if the value of t-test is the same or less than the value of t-table ( t-test = t-table or t-test < t-table). In the fact, in this research, the null hypothesis is rejected because the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (5.437 > 2.032). Alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted if the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (t-test > t-table). Thus, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (5.437 > 2.028. Based on the calculation analysis, it was found that there is improvement score on the students who were taught by think pair share technique. This can be seen from pre test result treatment and post test result after treatment.

The purpose of this research is to find out the language learning strategies that students used and to observe their achievement based on the strategies at second grade on SMAN 8 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2018/2019. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The sample of this research is XI IPS 1 consists of 36 students, in order to get the sample in this research by using simple random sampling. The data are collected by using questionnaire adapted from Oxford (1990) and documentation from English teacher. The result of this research showed that there are very high students and high students in using language learning strategies. Based on the data, the most frequency strategies that students used are metacognitive strategies are used by 13 students (36%) with the average score very high (84,3), affective strategies are used by 9 students (25%) with the average score very high (84,1),social strategies are used by 6 students (17%) with the average score very high (82,2), and cognitive strategies are used by 3 students (8%) with the average score high (78,5), while the lowest frequency strategies that students used are memory strategies used by 4 students (11%) with the average score very high (81,6). Lastly, compensation strategies are used by 1 student (3) with the score high (78).Keywords: Learning Strategies, Achievement.

This research was done to analyze the translation methods used by the tenth of social grade students at SMA N 3 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2018/2019. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The sample of this research was the tenth of social grade students at SMA N 3 Kota Jambi. Then to get the sample of this research, the researcher used random sampling technique. The instrument of this research was a translation test. In translation analysis processes, the researcher used theory of translation method based on Newmark Theory. The findings of this research showed that there are only four methods used by the students in translating the text. They are Word-For-Word Translation, Literal Translation, Free Translation, and Communicative Translation. It can be seen from the table that the most dominant method used by the 26 students was literal translation method. The second dominant was word-for-word translation method. Meanwhile, the third and fourth translation method applied by the students was free translation and communicative translation. Then, there are four methods which did not applied by the students in translating the story. They were faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation translation, and idiomatic translation method. Here, the students used more than one method to translate the narrative text. Based on the data, literal translation method is the most dominant method used by the students. It happens because the students just translate the words by its literal meaning and they tried to achieve the nearest equivalence meaning in the target language.Keywords: Analysis, Translation Methods, Narrative Text.

This research is aimed to find out representation of liberal feminism through the main character. This research used qualitative descriptive method and focused Marilley theory. The researcher used feminism concept to identify how the liberal feminism is presented in the movie. The supporting data were obtained from some sources, such as books, articles, and journals, related to gender discrimination, women‘s stereotypes, and feminism. In collecting the data, read-write technique was used. The data analysis was conducted using feminism approach. The researcher found that there are three types of liberal feminism. First the feminism of equal rights, second the feminism of fear, and last the feminism of personal development, in this research is dominant with feminism of personal development and liberal feminism representation in the movie.Keywords: Liberal Feminism, Main Character.
