Abstract

This Study aimed to find out whether or not there was any significant effect of roleplay method toward students’ speaking skills in grade XI Senior High School Number 9 Jambi City. This research used quantitative research method with pre-experimental research design which implicated only experimental class. The total population of this research was the eleventh grade students of Senior High School Number 9 which consisted of 240 students. The samples of this research were chosen by using simple random sampling. The samples were only experimental class consisted of 36 students. The technique of distributing data was speaking test where the students have to choose a topic, make a dialogue and do the role playing with pre-test, treatments, and post-test. This research used t test as the data analysis technique with statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) for Windows Version 21 Program. The result were found on this research are: (1) Students’ speaking skill taught by normal discussion reached the mean score of 6; (2) students’ speaking skill taught by using role play method reached the mean of 8; (3) students’ speaking skill taught by using role play method is higher than the students’ speaking skill taught by using normal discussion method with a value of sig 0.000 <0.05. Therefore, there are no satisfactory results from this method because the t count is obtained with a value of -4,363.

Abstract

This research aims to know how the students’ perception when they using of YouTube for their speaking skill. The research using a Qualitative Design with the Phenomenology Approach, utilizing qualitative data in the form of a descriptive qualitative. With tenth students present during data collection. Purposive sampling is employed to select subjects, and the research instruments include a observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of data collection used steps are data reduction, coding, data display, and conclusion. The findings reveal that students use YouTube as an additional English learning media, students can communicate with teacher if the teacher encourage them to speak English, the students can pronounce good when they speak, the vocabulary they used is a new, the students still not fluent when they speak English because they still think of the grammar. The results of the research is students perception on the use of YouTube for learn English is positive, in YouTube they can learn anything especially for speaking skills. In YouTube can make students good pronounce, increase students vocabulary, but YouTube less helpful for grammar and fluent.Keywords : Students’ Perception, YouTube, Speaking Skill

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Listen – Read – Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension for tenth grade students at SMAN 11 Jambi. This method of research is quantitative and the design of this research is quasi-experimental design. This research used two classes, experimental class and control class, X-E7 as experimental class were taught by using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy, and X-E3 as control class were taught without Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy. Both classes consist of 36 students. This research used a test instrument with multiple choice questions with total number questions is 16 items. The test consisted of Narrative Text. The technique of data analysis is calculation the students’ score and analyzing using SPSS. The data was analyzed by T-test using SPSS for windows version 21.0. The result of this research is found that the mean score of post-test in experiment class with using LRD strategy was 87,86 and the mean of post-test in control class without using LRD Strategy was 77.67. Meanwhile, from T-test analysis found that the value of sig (2-tailed) was 0.000. As the result, it can be seen that 0.00 < 0.05 which mean that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected ad the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there is significant effect of using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy toward students reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMAN 11 Jambi.

Abstract

This research aims to find out how students’ hospitality vocabulary mastery at Vocational High School 4 Jambi City. This type of the research is a quantitative descriptive research method with a total population of 69 people. Through a simple random sampling technique, 33 students of Class X PH 1 were selected to be sampled who will be representative of the population. The data were collected by using tests. The test is given to know students’ ability in vocabulary mastery. It is multiple-choice and consists of fifty questions. The result of this research is students’ vocabulary mastery test in English subject obtained a total score of 1794 with an average of 54,48. It means that students’ vocabulary mastery is good enough.Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Students Hospitality

Abstract

The Purpose of the research is to analyzed the ability of twelfth grade students to write application letter at senior high school number 11 Jambi. In conducting the research, the researcher used descriptive quantitative. The researcher used quantitative method to analyze the data. It can be seen there are 18 students got excellent score in 80-100, 12 students got good score 66-79, 1 student got fear score in 56-65, 2 students got weak score in 46-55 and no students got poor score in 0-45. This condition showed that some of the twelfth grade of Senior High School number 11 Jambi were able to write the application letter. Because they know how to make a good application letter such as the salutation, the content, and closing.

Abstract

The main problem of this research are the Understanding and Mastering English Vocabulary of student while learning, especialy at school. The aim of this study is to find the student capabilities and the determination of student in Vocabulary, especialy in the absent of class directly at school while Covid-19 Lockdown few years back. The researcher will use field research as a method of inquiry, observation and survey aswell. Research participants are 52 students who’s In Tenth Grade. From these, the finding are most of the student had a problem with the Environment or Surrounding of their learning area, while the rest had a problem with the Learning progress. Based on these, the Student had a trouble in learning while at school because their classmate, the task from other subject, and short hour to study English in class or while at home because of their homework from other subject, helping chores around the house as well as they need some breaktime from school since morning. Even more so while on Covid-19 few years back these student had to study at their home and most of the time the teacher explaining the materiel for a bit before throwing a homework or task for them to do. And while studying process it’s not effective example like because of the lack of direct communication, noisy surrounding, not enough sufficient device for said learning class, and the list still going on. As the result those years of direct learning and leap of class, carried away until they are now in Tenth Grade. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out whether there is any correlation of self-efficacy toward students’ writing skills at eleventh grade students of Senior High School 9 Jambi City. This research used quantitative method with correlational research as the design. The population in this research was eleventh grade students of Senior High School 9 Jambi City with total 240 students and the sample in this research was 71 students taken by using simple random sampling technique. The technique data collection in this research using questionnaire and writing test. The data were analyzed by using person product moment correlation coefficient by SPSS 21. The result of the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.690 and that was higher than the rtable 0.230 on significant level 5%. The result of hypothesis test was 0.000 < 0.05. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted because the value of Sig. is less than the 0.05. In conclusion, there is significant correlation of self-efficacy towards students’ writing skills at eleventh grade students of Senior High School 9 Jambi City.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the obstacles in reading comprehension faced by the twelfth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi, to identify the obstacles using Google Classroom faced by the twelfth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. This research is categorized as a quantitative research design. The subject of research was the twelfth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The technique of collecting the data is a Reading test. The researcher uses the techniques of analyzing the data are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The researcher presents the data from the obstacles in comprehending English text. The result of the researcher shows that there are 21,9% students who have obstacles in understanding to look for the main idea of the text with the total of incorrect is 47. Then, there are 20% students who have obstacles in understanding the vocabulary of the text with the total of incorrect is 43. Then, there are 20,4% students who have obstacles in understanding and making inference of the text with the total of incorrect is 44. Next, there are 37,7% students who have obstacles in understanding to look detail information of the text with the total incorrect is 81.Keywords: Students’ obstacles, reading comprehension, google classroom

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether the use of the cake application was effective in increasing the vocabulary of class XI students at SMA N8 Jambi City. This study used a quantitative method with a population of 184 students in class XI, with a sample of 36 students in class XI IPA 1 and 37 students in XI IPA 2 who were selected by cluster sampling. In this study, data were collected using the pre-test and post-test to see the average score of the two classes using SPSS version 29. The results of this study indicate that (1) vocabulary mastery in using the cake application in the treatment class with an average of 80 .25; (2) Vocabulary mastery in the control class with an average of 70.92; (3) the vocabulary mastery of the treatment class students using the cake application was higher than the control class with a Sig. 0.001 > 0.05. The use of the cake application is effective in increasing the vocabulary of class XI students at SMA N8 Jambi City.

Abstract

The researcher was interested in conducting the research entitled “Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery in Reading by Using Extensive Reading for Junior High School Number 6 Jambi City. Based on the identification of the problem above, the researcher wants to figure out the effect of extensive reading on students'' vocabulary mastery. Then the researcher used quantitative research (Experimental). This study was only conducted in one class. Pretests and post-tests were given to students. The results showed that the students'' vocabulary improved significantly after the treatment using an extensive reading approach. It was revealed by the post-test mean score of 82.89, which was higher than the pre-test score of 66.71. Based on the results of the data above using IBM SPSS Statistics 25, the two-tailed significant or sig. (2-tailed) was 0.00 at the level of Sig α 0.05. Based on these results Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted and H0 (Null hypothesis) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the scores obtained by the students in the pre-test and post-test. The researcher concluded that the use of the Extensive Reading approach was effective in increasing the students'' vocabularies.
