Abstract

This article aims to discuss semiotics with Ferdinand De Saussure's syntagmatic and paradigmatic concepts and Charles Sander Peirce's Grand Theory concept, with the object of study being qauliyah verses and kauniyah verses in the Koran and methodological reconstruction. This research method is qualitative with a library research method, namely looking for literature sources related to the discussion in the form of theses, dissertations, or other articles. The syntagmatic and paradigmatic concepts of Ferdinand De Saussure and Charles Sander Peirce's Grand Theory, namely Semiotic analysis, seek to find a correlation between the meaning of something contained in something (text, sound, event). Semiotics means how humans interpret the things around them or the events of their lives. Augustine distinguishes natural signs from conventional signs; he mentions that they fulfill human psychological needs; they allow humans to describe and remember the world. It also makes the process of human thinking about life and signs about something that happens and moves beyond the realm of human rationality, which is spiritual. Meanwhile, natural signs are natural symptoms occurring around human life in various forms. This theory works by identifying, documenting, and classifying types of signs. The philosophers from the pragmatism school who formulated the semiotic discipline are Charles Sandres Pierce and Ferdinand De Saussure.

Abstract

Since 1968, Resources for Arabic education and learning have continued to advance, thanks to recent technological advancements. Junior high school Arabic textbooks have also been updated based on several factors, including correcting numerous errors and material organization to optimize use and circulation. Researchers discovered that this study, which revealed the visual aspects of the book released by Kemenag in 2020 from the perspectives of Sudarma and Erin M. McTigue, was conducted using exploratory qualitative research and descriptive analysis methodologies. Tables and 180 cartoon pictures or photos comprise most of the book's visual aspects; the remaining elements are design elements, including circles, blunt boxes, and other shapes. Readers may find it challenging to see some layout conditions because they are still random.

Abstract

The poem "Salamun 'Alaikum" by Anis Chouchene is a compelling subject for analysis due to its exploration of the theme of peace, which was once lost in Tunisia. This study aims to uncover the full significance of the poem. Utilizing Riffaterre's semiotic approach, the research involved text observation, data source identification, and multiple readings of the poem. The findings are summarized as follows: (1) Heuristic reading reveals that the poem employs accessible language and personification, along with numerous affirmations to underscore the poet's viewpoint. (2) Hermeneutic reading suggests that the poem is a response to an incident of racism in Tunisia, with the poet expressing personal feelings and recommending actions for Tunisian citizens. (3) The underlying matrix of the poem is the theme of peace, which the poet seeks to communicate to the broader public, especially the Tunisian population, which was grappling with racism at the time.

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of the independent curriculum in Arabic subjects at Alif Laam Mim Islamic Yunior High School Surabaya. This curriculum change requires educational units to adhere to the concepts of the curriculum that have been implemented. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations. The data analyzed were obtained from interviews with research subjects, namely Arabic language education teachers who teach in the seventh and eighth grades at MTs Alif Laam Mim Surabaya. This research shows that Alif Laam Mim Islamic Yunior High School has implemented the independent curriculum concept at the seventh and eighth-grade levels. In teaching and learning, teachers apply differentiated instruction that prioritizes students' abilities, talents, and interests. Teachers also focus on character development in each lesson. However, the concept of the independent curriculum still needs to be fully understood by all teachers, so they must learn to grasp the concept fully continuously.

Abstract

The aesthetic aspects of kalām (rhetoric or expression) have prompted extensive debate among classical Arab critics regarding the dualism of lafẓ (expression) and ma'nā (meaning). Central to this debate is whether beauty resides in the wording, the meaning, or a combination of both. This discussion became particularly pronounced in the context of the Qur'anic miraculousness, eventually leading to the development of the science of balaghah (rhetoric) between the 2nd and 5th centuries CE. This article employs a literature review and qualitative descriptive approach to examine the discourse on the dualism of lafẓ and ma'nā among scholars of i'jāz (inimitability) and classical Arab critics. The literature review incorporates primary sources from classical critics alongside modern perspectives to provide a comprehensive and nuanced understanding. The study finds that within the debate on lafẓ and ma'nā, there are proponents of lafẓ (anṣār al-lafẓ), proponents of ma'nā (anṣār al-ma’nā), and those who advocate for an integration of both. Notably, Abdul Qahir al-Jurjani presents a unique perspective through his theory of naẓm, which asserts that the beauty of kalām is derived from its arrangement in accordance with the conceptual meaning (ma’ānī fī al-nafs).
