Abstract

Metacognitive skills are a person's ability to control their thinking when planning, monitoring, and evaluating their cognitive processes. Students' metacognitive skills that appear when completing minimum competency assessment questions tend to be incomplete. In this case, students need the right strategies to solve these questions. Each student has different thinking processes and problem-solving strategies. One possible cause of this is different levels of mathematical ability. This research is a qualitative research with tests and interview methods that aim to describe students' metacognitive skills in solving AKM problems based on their level of mathematics ability. The subjects of this study were students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Based on the study's results, all indicators of metacognitive skills, ie, planning, monitoring, and evaluation, appeared in subjects with high mathematics ability at every stage of problem solving. Meanwhile, some indicators do not appear completely for students with medium and low mathematics abilities. At the stage of carrying out the plan, the evaluation component was the indicator of metacognitive skills that did not appear in low-ability students. Meanwhile, for students with low mathematics ability, the indicators that did not appear were planning and monitoring in the stages of devising a plan and carrying out the plan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the analogical reasoning of senior high school students with reflective and impulsive cognitive styles, particularly those with high mathematical ability, in solving open-ended problems. Analogical reasoning ability is important for students' success in understanding and solving mathematical problems. This study uses a qualitative approach with high school students selected based on their reflective and impulsive cognitive styles and high mathematical ability. Data were collected through the Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) adapted from Warli, an analogy reasoning test using open-ended problems from SPLTV material, and interviews. Data analysis was based on analogy reasoning indicators, including the structuring, mapping, applying, and verifying stages. The results of the study indicate that reflective and impulsive students with high mathematical ability, both of whom are female, are able to perform all four stages of analogical reasoning well, identify problem elements, map similarities, apply strategies, and verify their work accurately.

Abstract

Algebraic thinking ability is an individual's ability to implement six types of mathematical thinking abilities, namely generalization, abstraction, analytical thinking, dynamic thinking, modeling, and organization. Algebraic thinking ability has a close relationship with problem-solving and cognitive style. This study aims to describe the algebraic thinking ability of junior high school students with cognitive style adaptation and innovation in solving math problems. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects selected were one student with an adaptation cognitive style and one with an innovation cognitive style, high mathematics ability, and the same gender. Researchers collected data using a cognitive style questionnaire, math ability, and problem-solving tests. The results showed that the ability of algebraic thinking of students with cognitive styles of adaptation and innovation in understanding the problem includes explaining the meaning of the problem with their language, identifying the problem by writing the information known and asked, and simplifying the information. In making plans, students can use abstract symbols, represent information coherently, tell pattern relationships mathematically, and find the pattern in question. In implementing the plan, students can use patterns to solve the problem, use intuitive methods, and identify the relationship between white and gray paving blocks. In re-examining, students review the steps of completion, ensure the correctness of the answer, and write conclusions. Students with cognitive styles of adaptation and innovation fulfill all indicators and show differences in working, but innovative students have not displayed a creative answer.

Abstract

Financial literacy is defined as knowledge, skills, and beliefs, which influence attitudes and behaviors to improve the quality of decision-making and financial management to achieve the financial welfare of the community. According to the results of the financial literacy survey on students aged 15-17 years, it shows that the composite financial literacy index is 51.7%, which is quite far behind when compared to the employee group where the composite financial literacy index is 83.22%. This study aims to describe the process of developing Google Sites-based financial literacy questions at the junior high school level and produce 14 Google Sites-based financial literacy questions at the junior high school level. This research is development research using the ADDIE model. The type of data in this study is quantitative data which is in the form of data analysis of the validity of financial literacy questions based on validator assessments, readability test analysis data based on student questionnaire results, and analysis data of question item validity and question reliability based on student test results. In this study, the data collection techniques used were expert validation questionnaires, readability questionnaires, and student test result data. This research developed 14 questions on financial literacy, 3 questions were declared invalid which were then eliminated by the researcher. The results of this study are to produce 11 valid and reliable financial literacy questions at the junior high school level based on Google Sites. Thus, teachers can develop digital-based financial literacy questions independently by paying attention to the developments carried out in this research.

Abstract

The low percentage of numeracy proficiency among junior high school students, as reported in the 2024 Indonesian Education Report, emphasizes the importance of high-quality numeracy questions equivalent to the Minimum Competency Assessment as effective practice materials to enhance students' numeracy skills. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of numeracy questions equivalent to the Minimum Competency Assessment delivered through the Jotform platform for junior high school students. The items are developed as online practice materials aimed at familiarizing students with solving numeracy problems in accordance with the standards of the national competency assessment. This research is an exploratory study using a quantitative approach. The primary data were collected from the result of 20 numeracy items distributed through Jotform to 27 students enrolled in the eighth grade of a privacy secondary school located in Surabaya. Four analyses were conducted to examine the item characteristics: validity, reliability, difficulty index, and discrimination index. Findings indicate that the average validity of the items falls within the moderate level, the reliability in categorized as high, the average difficulty index is also in the moderate range-suggesting the items are effective for evaluating students’ numeracy skill-and the average discrimination index demonstrates an excellent classification. In light of the results, the questions are considered appropriate for use in online numeracy practice.
