Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan profil pengetahuan konseptual siswa SMP di jen-jang menganalisis pada materi segi empat berdasarkan perbedaan jenis kelamin. Subjek penelitian, 1 siswa laki-laki dan 1 siswa perempuan berkemampuan matematika sedang, ke-las VIII SMPN 3 Waru Sidoarjo tahun pelajaran 2013/2014. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari soal tes dan pedoman wawancara. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara berbasis tugas. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif melalui pereduksian data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.Tidak terdapat perbedaan pengetahuan konseptual subjek laki-laki dan perempuan di jenjang menganalisis. Baik subjek laki-laki maupun perempuan kurang dapat mengidentifikasi sifat-sifat segi empat dengan tepat sehingga tidak dapat mengorganisasikan keterkaitan antarbangun berdasarkan sifat-sifatnya. Kata Kunci: pengetahuan konseptual,  menganalisis, jenis kelamin, segi empat.  AbstractThis study aims to describe conceptual knowledge profile of the Junior High School students’ in evaluating stage of quadrilateral material based on sex difference. The subjects of this study consist of two male and two female seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Waru Sidoarjo academic year 2013/2014 that have average mathematics ability. The researcher employed test and interview guide as the instruments of the study. The instruments of this study are test sheet and interview guide.  Data collection is conducted through by task based interview. Data analysis is done conducted in qualitatively descriptive qualitative-descriptive by reducing the data, presenting the data, and drawing the conclusion reducing, presenting and concluding data. There is no a difference of conceptual knowledge between male and female subjects in analyzing stage. There is no conceptual knowledge difference between male and female subjects in analyzing stage. Both of them less can identify the characteristic of quadrilateral exactly, so cannot organize the relationship among planes based on their characteristic. Both of them are less in identifying the properties of quadrilateral such that all subjects cannot organize the relation among planes based on their properties. Keywords : conceptual knowledge , analyzing stage,  sex difference, quadrilateral.

Abstract

Abstract

Combinatorial thinking is a way of thinking in solving combinatory problems. Combinatory problems are one of the difficult problems for students to solve. This study aims to analyses students? combinatorial thinking processes in solving problems. Given two combinatory problems that consist of problems with multiplication rule and combination. The Problems were given to two 11th grade senior-high school students. The results obtained were that there was a tendency for male Participants to do the two different ways which are direct counting and using diagram. The female participants did the work with one way which is direct counting. On more complex issues, namely about combination, students' thinking models go through stages of set of outcomes. From this research, it is expected that combinatory material learning is emphasized on the discovery of formulas by students themselves inductively, especially deductively. So that in this case the students interpret the combinatory formula more.

Abstract

Argumentasi merupakan bagian penting dalam memahami matematika karena siswa mengemukakan suatu klaim didasari oleh data dan dukungan teori yang memadai dari suatu masalah. Salah satu satu jenis soal yang melatih kemampuan argumentasi siswa adalah soal model PISA. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan profil argumentasi siswa dalam memecahkan masalah PISA. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan teknik sampling dengan variasi maksimal sehingga diperoleh tiga subjek penelitian yang memiliki jawaban atau klaim berbeda. Data diperoleh melalui tes dan wawancara dan dianalisis menggunakan argumentasi Toulmin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dua siswa dengan klaim benar, memiliki data yang lengkap sebagai dasar memutuskan klaim dan menghubungkannya dengan berbagai waran antara lain himpunan atau tabel, lalu mencocokkan data yang ada. Siswa-siswa ini memberi backing terhadap waran menggunakan konsep penjumlahan dan pengurangan bilangan. Sedangkan siswa dengan klaim salah, tidak memiliki data yang cukup akibat salah dalam memahami informasi yang diberikan. Siswa menggunakan waran berupa konsep penjumlahan dan pengurangan bilangan. Namun, waran tersebut tidak memiliki backing yang mendukung.

Abstract

Abstrak — Pengetahuan statistis merupakan salah satu komponen dari literasi statistis. Pengetahuan statistis sangat penting untuk siswa dalam pengambilan keputusan. Penelitian dengan pendekatan kualitatif ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan profil pengetahuan statistis siswa dalam literasi statistis. Subjek penelitian adalah 5 siswa kelas IX SMP di Jombang. Subjek yang dipilih adalah siswa yang memiliki jawaban lengkap dan bervariasi. Data diambil dari wawancara berbasis tugas. Tugas tersebut berupa 4 butir soal Tes Pengetahuan Statistis. Data dianalisis berdasarkan empat indikator komponen pengetahuan statistis, yaitu mengetahui aturan dasar terkait statistika deskriptif, mengetahui aturan dasar terkait representasi grafik dan tabel, memahami gagasan dasar probabilitas, dan mengetahui bagaimana kesimpulan statistika didapatkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, pada komponen “mengetahui aturan dasar terkait statistika deskriptif”, 4 siswa mengalami kesalahan menentukan data yang dijumlahkan dalam penghitungan rata-rata. Pada komponen “mengetahui aturan dasar terkait grafik dan tabel”, siswa hanya menjadikan kemudahan penyajian sebagai alasan pemilihan diagram untuk menyajikan data, bukan berdasarkan jenis data. Pada komponen “memahami gagasan dasar probabilitas”, siswa mengamati kecenderungan data secara umum untuk menentukan kemungkinan suatu kejadian. Pada komponen “mengetahui bagaimana kesimpulan statistika didapatkan”, siswa membuat kesimpulan dengan memperhatikan informasi-informasi pada tabel, berorientasi pada rata-rata atau pada data secara parsial. Siswa paling banyak mengalami kesalahan pada komponen aturan statistika deskriptif, serta aturan grafik dan tabel. Maka sebaiknya guru memperhatikan dan melatih siswa mengenai statistika deskriptif dan ketepatan pemilihan penyajian data beserta argument yang menyertainya.Kata kunci: profil, pengetahuan statistis, literasi statistis Abstract — Statistical knowledge is one component of statistical literacy. Statistical knowledge is very important for students in decision making. This qualitative research approach aims to describe the profile of students' statistical knowledge in statistical literacy. The research subjects were 5 students of grade IX junior high school in Jombang. The subjects chosen were students who had complete and varied answers. Data taken from task-based interviews. The assignment was in the form of 4 items of the Statistical Knowledge Test. Data were analyzed based on four indicators of statistical knowledge components, namely knowing basic rules related to descriptive statistics, knowing basic rules related to graph and table representations, understanding basic ideas of probability, and knowing how statistical conclusions were obtained. The results showed, in the component "know the basic rules related to descriptive statistics", 4 students experienced errors in determining the data added in the average calculation. In the "knowing the basic rules related to graphs and tables", students only use the ease of presentation as a reason for choosing a diagram to present data, not based on the type of data. In the "understanding the basic idea of probability" component, students observe general data trends to determine the probability of an event. In the component "knowing how statistical conclusions are obtained", students make conclusions by paying attention to the information in the table, oriented to the average or partial data. Students experience the most errors in the components of descriptive statistical rules, as well as graph and table rules. Then the teacher should pay attention and train students in descriptive statistics and the accuracy of the selection of data presentation accompanied by the arguments.Keywords: profile, statistical knowledge, statistical literacy

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning using a problem posing approach. This study was classroom action research conducted over two cycles. Researchers use tests of critical thinking skills and observation sheets for data collection techniques. The subjects of this study were 35 grade 8 students of SMPN 2 Candi. Data analysis techniques use a combination of qualitative and quantitative. The results of the study showed that based on the results of the critical thinking skills test, there was a significant increase in the percentage of classical completeness from the pre-action stage to cycle 1, and there was a slight increase from cycle 1 to cycle 2. In the pre-action stage, there were 68.57% of students completed, where students are said to complete if their level of mastery is in the category of sufficient or above. In cycle 1, 80% of students completed, and in cycle 2 there were 82.86% of students completed. Based on the study results, it was concluded that students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning have increased by applying the problem posing approach.

Abstract

Diagnosing learners' difficulties in solving math problems is one of the steps in finding and overcoming these learners' difficulties. This qualitative research describes the difficulties of junior high school students in critical thinking and the form of scaffolding provided collaboratively. This research is a case study of two junior high school students who experienced failure in scaffolding. The instrument used was task-based interviews. The task in question is a critical thinking ability test. Data analysis was conducted using four indicators of critical thinking according to Facione: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Scaffolding used in this study is scaffolding proposed by Anghileri. The results showed that in the interpretation indicator, students had difficulty explaining what was known and asked in the problem and were given scaffolding reviewing. In the analysis indicator, students have difficulty determining the solution method and the relationship between formulas regarding the height of the triangle and are given scaffolding reviewing and restructuring. In the evaluation indicator, students have difficulty performing calculations and are given scaffolding reviewing. In the inference indicator, students have difficulty drawing conclusions and are given scaffolding reviewing and developing conceptual thinking. The results showed that after being given scaffolding, students still made mistakes again which were caused by the lack of student accuracy and the tendency of students to rush so that they chose a faster but less precise way. Therefore, teachers must provide practice problems continuously so that they can train students' accuracy and students are accustomed to varied solutions

Abstract

This study aims to describe female students' conjecture construction on the topic of linear equation graphs with the assistance of GeoGebra. The study involved two female students who had mastered the necessary prerequisite material. Research instruments included conjecture construction tests and interviews, which were analyzed based on these conjecture construction indicators: 1) problem identification and exploration, 2) formulating conjectures, 3) testing and refining conjectures, and 4) proving conjectures. Results showed that, in the problem identification and exploration stage, students identified what was asked in the question, determined the information needed to answer it, and explored examples using GeoGebra. One student independently identified a pattern, while the other required an explanation. In the conjecture formulation stage, both students needed guidance to construct a general conjecture. Both students tested their conjectures, though only one needed to refine it. Initially, proof was conducted through examples; ultimately, both students succeeded in generalizing their proofs.
