Abstract

This study is motivated by the problem of suboptimal administrative and supervisory support in strengthening the institutional performance of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), particularly at the regency level. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the administrative and supervisory functions in supporting the performance of the DPRD Secretariat of Bintan Regency, by examining the achievements, obstacles, and influencing factors of both functions. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation involving seven purposively selected informants. The study was conducted at the DPRD Secretariat of Bintan Regency from February to April 2026. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, with validity tested through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that administrative functions have been implemented relatively well, although limitations in human resources and technology infrastructure remain. The supervisory function has been carried out but is not yet fully optimal due to its dependence on members’ meeting attendance. Improvements in human resource capacity, technology-based administrative systems, and inter-divisional coordination are necessary.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the visual impression of special effects makeup as a suspense-enhancing element in Abadi Nan Jaya directed by Kimo Stamboel. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a film analysis approach. Data were collected through observation of scenes featuring special effects makeup and supported by relevant literature. The findings reveal that special effects makeup plays a significant role in building, developing, and maintaining suspense throughout the narrative through three main phases: the emergence of threat, the spread of threat, and the experience of loss and despair. In the first phase, the characters’ physical transformations create impressions of abnormality, disturbance, and danger that generate curiosity and anxiety among viewers. In the second phase, visual depictions of wounds, blood, bodily damage, and zombie transformations affecting multiple characters strengthen the perception of a spreading outbreak. In the third phase, the physical deterioration of the main characters creates impressions of loss and despair, increasing the audience’s emotional engagement. Furthermore, visual elements such as open wounds, body decay, and physical deformities produce horror impressions consistent with Carroll’s concept of art-horror, characterized by the presence of something both dangerous and unnatural. Therefore, special effects makeup functions not only as an aesthetic component but also as a cinematic element that contributes to the construction of suspense and enhances the audience’s emotional experience in Abadi Nan Jaya.

Abstract

Lah, Kok Saya? is a short fiction film in the comedy-horror genre that portrays the dynamics of friendship among university students living in a boarding house, where a simple misunderstanding develops into a larger conflict. This creative work aims to apply movement and blocking to build dramatic elements through the director as actor approach. The creation process was carried out through pre-production, production, and post-production stages, utilizing the acting methods of Emotional Triggering, Physical Mimicry, and Line Feeding to help actors understand their characters and emotional motivations. The application of movement and blocking was focused on nine key scenes with high dramatic intensity. The results show that the director as actor approach effectively supported dramatic development through the arrangement of movement and blocking, with seven out of nine analyzed scenes successfully representing the intended emotions and conflicts, while two scenes were not fully achieved due to limitations in actor immersion, improvisation, and shot variation. Overall, the director as actor approach proved effective in supporting the direction of Lah, Kok Saya? through the application of movement and blocking to enhance dramatic impact.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of handheld camera techniques in portraying the emotional transformation of Codename 13 in The Shadow Strays. The film presents the protagonist’s emotional development through a series of psychological changes that evolve alongside the narrative conflict, making it a compelling subject for cinematographic analysis. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through observation, documentation, literature review, and interviews with the film’s Director of Photography (DOP), Batara Goempar. The analysis is based on Robert Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions theory and cinematography theory to examine the relationship between handheld camera movements and the character’s emotional transformation. The findings reveal that the handheld technique functions not only as a camera operation method but also as a visual language capable of representing Codename 13’s emotional progression throughout the film. Variations in camera stability, movement rhythm, direction, and framing are utilized to reinforce emotions such as anticipation, joy, anger, sadness, fear, and surprise experienced by the character. The study further indicates that changes in handheld camera characteristics are closely related to the intensity of the emotions being portrayed, where higher emotional pressure is represented through increasingly dynamic and unstable camera movements. Therefore, the handheld technique in The Shadow Strays serves as an effective cinematographic element for communicating the character’s emotional dynamics and strengthening narrative meaning through visual storytelling.

Abstract

Sustainable waste management in elementary school environments remains a significant challenge, driven not only by a lack of supporting infrastructure but also by the limited capacity of students to act as agents of change in advocating for eco–friendly habits. Traditionally, educational approaches in schools tend to be instructive and top–down, positioning students as passive subjects of rules without equipping them with the courage and persuasive skills necessary to influence their peers or school authorities. In response to this phenomenon, this community service program aims to enhance waste management awareness among students at SDN Pejuang V Bekasi through an innovative approach: training in lobbying strategies integrated with effective communication. The employed method utilized a structured participatory training design consisting of three main stages: (1) building critical awareness of waste issues, (2) strengthening persuasive communication skills and basic negotiation techniques, and (3) practical application through lobbying role–play and mini–campaign mentoring within the school. The program's impact was evaluated using a one–group pretest–posttest design combined with participatory observation. The analysis results indicated a significant improvement across all measured indicators. Cognitively, there was a notable increase in the average scores of students' understanding of waste sorting. More crucially, from affective and psychomotor perspectives, students demonstrated a substantial boost in conf idence when articulating arguments, employing persuasive approaches with peers, and formulating negotiations with school authorities regarding the provision of supporting facilities. These findings confirm that building communication capacity and lobbying skills at an early age can transform students from passive rule–followers into active environmental advocates. This approach can serve as an effective alternative model for designing environment–based character education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Writing is one of the essential academic competencies that university students are expected to master, including those enrolled in non-language study programs. However, preliminary observations conducted among second-semester students of the Informatics Engineering Study Program at Yudharta University revealed that many students experienced difficulties in generating main ideas, developing supporting details, organizing coherent paragraphs, and applying appropriate grammar and vocabulary. These problems contributed to the low quality of their English writing. Therefore, this study aimed to improve students' writing skills through the implementation of the Flower Writing Strategy. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of three cycles, each involving planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 33 second-semester Informatics Engineering students enrolled in the English course. Data were collected through classroom observations, field notes, documentation, and writing tests. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive comparative analysis by comparing students' performance across the three research cycles. The findings demonstrated a consistent improvement in students' writing performance after the implementation of the Flower Writing Strategy. The mean writing score increased from 77 in Cycle I to 79 in Cycle II and reached 83 in Cycle III. Besides the improvement in writing scores, classroom observations revealed increased student participation, better idea development, improved paragraph organization, more accurate vocabulary use, and fewer grammatical errors. The visual graphic organizer used in the Flower Writing Strategy also enabled students to organize their ideas more systematically during the pre-writing stage. In conclusion, the Flower Writing Strategy proved effective in improving the English writing skills of EFL students and can be recommended as an alternative instructional strategy for teaching writing in non-language higher education programs.

Abstract

Public perception of sexual violence cases is influenced by media coverage, which shapes social reality through framing processes. This study aims to analyze and compare the framing of Kompas.com and Detik.com in reporting sexual violence cases in Indonesia. Robert N. Entman's framing model was applied through four elements: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. These media were selected due to their significant public reach and different reporting characteristics, with Kompas.com emphasizing contextual analysis and Detik.com prioritizing speed and concise information delivery. This qualitative study employed framing analysis on ten news articles selected through purposive sampling from January to December 2024. The findings indicate that Kompas.com highlights context, victim perspectives, and educational aspects, while Detik.com focuses on facts and chronology. Differences in framing are influenced by editorial characteristics and news presentation strategies. This study contributes to understanding media construction of sexual violence issues and encourages ethical, victim-sensitive journalism.

Abstract

The song Diri by Tulus explores the themes of identity and self-acceptance, which are highly relevant to the lives of young people in the digital era. However, the representation of identity and self-acceptance constructed through the song’s lyrics has received limited scholarly attention from the perspectives of semiotics and representation theory, making further analysis necessary to understand the meanings embedded within the lyrics. This study aims to analyze the representation of identity and self-acceptance in the lyrics of Diri by Tulus using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach and Stuart Hall’s theory of representation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with the lyrics of Diri serving as the primary data. The data were analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic framework by identifying the representamen, object, and interpretant, followed by interpretation through Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to explain the process of constructing and interpreting representations of identity and self-acceptance. The findings reveal that the lyrics of Diri represent six major themes: self-acceptance, self-identity, self-appreciation, emotional healing, self-worth, and mental health. These meanings are constructed through symbols, metaphors, and reflective language that illustrate an individual’s journey of recognizing, accepting, and valuing oneself after experiencing various life events. Based on Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, meaning is constructed through language and reinterpreted by listeners according to their respective social and cultural experiences. Therefore, Diri functions not only as entertainment but also as a communication medium that represents identity, self-acceptance, and mental health in the digital era.

Abstract

The film Lah, Kok Saya? is a fictional horror-comedy that explores the misunderstandings often experienced by university students living in boarding houses. Miscommunication, differences in perception, and impulsive reactions frequently transform simple everyday situations into interpersonal conflicts, creating dramatic moments that can be effectively represented through cinematic storytelling. This project aims to implement the smash cut technique as an editing strategy to enhance dramatic elements through contrasts in visuals, audio, rhythm, and atmosphere between scenes. The application of the smash cut technique draws upon theories and concepts from Gael Chandler (smash cuts), Vsevolod Pudovkin (contrast editing), Bordwell and Thompson, Walter Murch (editing concepts), Bruce Block’s visual structure, and Lutters’ dramatic narrative elements. The creative process involved stages of preparation, design, realization, and presentation. Implementation began during pre-production with the development of the editing concept and continued during post-production through the application of smash cut transitions. Each scene employing this technique was analyzed to evaluate its contribution to dramatic storytelling. The results show that the smash cut technique was used 11 times in transitions between shots and scenes throughout the film. Its application successfully strengthened dramatic elements such as surprise, suspense, curiosity, conflict, and situational comedy by creating strong contrasts between audience expectations and the actual events presented on screen. Furthermore, the technique maintained a dynamic storytelling rhythm, accelerated narrative progression, and effectively reinforced the horror-comedy genre identity of Lah, Kok Saya?, demonstrating that smash cut functions not only as a visual transition but also as an effective narrative device for enhancing dramatic storytelling.

Abstract

Violence against children is a problem that requires strategic and collaborative handling, considering that cases of child violence in Bintan Regency continue to show an increasing trend from 2024 to 2025. This study aims to analyze the strategy of the Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (DP3KB) Office of Bintan Regency in handling violence against children and identify supporting and inhibiting factors for its implementation. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with five purposively selected informants, documentation, and literature studies, which are analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman and John M. Bryson's strategic planning theory, with data validity tested through source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the strategies implemented consist of prevention strategies and handling strategies. Prevention strategies are carried out through socialization in schools and communities, empowerment of the Children's Forum, PATBM, and PUSPAGA, strengthening regional regulations, and digital-based violence prevention education. Handling strategies are carried out through complaint services, assessments, legal assistance, psychological services, rehabilitation, multidisciplinary referrals, and the Virtual Safe House innovation. Supporting factors for implementation include cross-sector synergy, local government commitment, organizational innovation capacity, and funding support, while inhibiting factors include limited human resources, limited regional budgets, the geographical conditions of the archipelago, and the rise in digital-based violence. This study concludes that the Bintan Regency DP3KB strategy has been quite effective and aligned with Bryson's strategic planning stages, but still requires strengthening institutional capacity, human resources, and budget support.
