Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of women in the novel Cantik Itu Luka by Eka Kurniawan through a feminist perspective. The novel portrays various experiences of women related to gender inequality, including violence, bodily exploitation, and social marginalization. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data consist of selected excerpts that reflect the representation of female characters in the novel. The findings reveal that women in Cantik Itu Luka are often positioned as victims within a patriarchal system; however, they also demonstrate forms of resistance, both explicit and implicit. This representation highlights the complexity of women’s roles, not only as oppressed figures but also as individuals who possess the agency to survive and resist. Therefore, the novel serves not only as a reflection of social reality but also as a critique of persistent gender inequality in society.

Abstract

The rapid growth of Instagram news production has created a journalistic problem: news must be delivered in concise, visual, and sequential formats while still maintaining accuracy, context, and editorial coherence. This study aims to analyze how carousel posts function as a visual narrative format in digital journalism and how the format changes the structure of news delivery. This research uses a qualitative approach with qualitative content analysis of 15 carousel news posts uploaded from January to March 2026 by five Indonesian Instagram news accounts: @malakaproject.id, @tempodotco, @cnnindonesia, @ussfeeds, and @totalpolitikcom. The analysis examines the function of opening slides, core slides, closing slides, the relationship between visual elements and short text, and transitions between slides. The findings show that carousel posts do not merely visualize news, but organize information into connected narrative units. Opening slides function as attention hooks, core slides build context and chronology, while closing slides provide summary or interpretive emphasis. The swipe mechanism shapes rhythm, suspense, and continuity. These findings indicate a shift in digital journalism from linear text-based narration toward sequential visual narration that requires active audience movement, careful editorial selection, and stronger control over context so that news remains coherent, complete, and accountable within platform-based communication.

Abstract

The implementation of study assignments for State Civil Apparatus (ASN) at the Regional Personnel Agency of West Sumatra Province still faces various administrative obstacles and regulatory dynamics that influence the decision-making process. Frequently occurring problems include incomplete documents, administrative delays, and policy changes that require rapid procedural adjustments. These conditions cause the process of determining study assignments to require more complex coordination and organizational considerations. Furthermore, ASN are still found to begin education before the study assignment decision letter is issued, thus affecting the effectiveness of the administrative and verification processes within the BKD. This study aims to analyze the decision-making process for ASN study assignments at the BKD of West Sumatra Province, identify the administrative obstacles faced, and explain the organization's strategies in supporting ASN competency development. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the study assignment decision-making process is carried out through systematic administrative stages based on regulations and organizational needs. The Regional Civil Service Agency (BKD) plays a crucial role in administrative verification, inter-agency coordination, and ASN competency development through the Human Capital Development Plan (HCDP) and administrative digitization using the SRIKANDI application. Research findings also indicate that an organization's ability to adapt to regulatory changes is a crucial factor in maintaining effective administrative services and ASN competency development within local governments

Abstract

West Sumatra is one of the regions in Indonesia with a high level of disaster vulnerability based on data from the 2024 Indonesian Disaster Risk Index (IRBI). Its geographical location within the Ring of Fire makes it vulnerable to earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, landslides, and flash floods of cold lava flows. The high intensity of disasters demands effective, integrated, and responsive disaster management. However, the implementation of disaster management policies in West Sumatra still faces obstacles, such as sectoral egos between agencies, weak integration of disaster information, limited resources, and suboptimal cross-sectoral coordination at every stage of the disaster. These conditions have resulted in suboptimal mitigation, preparedness, emergency response, and post-disaster rehabilitation processes. This article aims to analyze the effectiveness and multi-actor coordination in disaster management in West Sumatra through a collaborative governance perspective. The research uses a literature review method with a descriptive and thematic analysis approach to scientific journals, books, policy documents, and regulations related to disaster governance. The analysis was conducted by identifying the relationship between policy effectiveness, inter-institutional communication, community participation, and the quality of collaboration within the disaster management system. The study results indicate that disaster management effectiveness is influenced by the quality of inter-institutional coordination, policy communication, clarity of role allocation, and community participation. A collaborative governance approach through the Pentahelix model and the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB) can strengthen synergy between actors and increase community resilience to disaster risks. Furthermore, strengthening coordination forums is necessary to improve the effectiveness of regional disaster management policies.

Abstract

The rapid adoption of generative artificial intelligence has transformed how university students approach academic tasks, making it important to understand their perceptions of tools such as ChatGPT across different academic contexts. This study investigated students’ perceptions of ChatGPT for academic assignments at Universitas Negeri Semarang, with particular attention to disciplinary and gender-related variations. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a questionnaire survey involving 40 students and semi-structured interviews with five students from different academic disciplines. The findings indicated that students generally perceived ChatGPT as a useful, accessible, and efficient academic support tool. Participants reported that ChatGPT helped them understand complex learning materials, generate ideas, organize assignment structures, improve writing processes, and enhance overall academic productivity. The findings suggested possible disciplinary variations in usage patterns, as interview participants reported utilizing ChatGPT according to specific demands of their academic fields, including brainstorming, academic writing, conceptual learning, coding assistance, and problem-solving activities. Although minor variations in usage habits were observed between male and female students, both groups demonstrated similarly positive attitudes toward AI-assisted learning. Students showed strong awareness of ethical considerations and emphasized the importance of verifying AI-generated information before incorporating it into academic work. Despite recognizing limitations such as occasional inaccuracies and contextually inappropriate responses, students viewed ChatGPT as a complementary learning resource rather than a substitute for independent thinking. The study highlights the importance of promoting responsible AI integration in higher education through digital literacy development, critical evaluation skills, and ethical guidelines for the responsible use of AI in academic contexts.

Abstract

Air Manis Beach combines coastal scenery, the Malin Kundang heritage narrative, local businesses, and public tourism services. Its development therefore requires coordination among the Padang City Government, Padang Sejahtera Mandiri Regional Public Company, tourism awareness groups, local residents, and business actors. This study analyzes the pattern, outcomes, success factors, and constraints of collaborative governance in the destination. The research used a qualitative descriptive design through a pure literature review. Searches were conducted in Google Scholar, GARUDA, Crossref, and official journal portals. Sixty-seven records were identified, and 20 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 1995 and 2025 were included after duplicate removal, title and abstract screening, and full-text assessment. Data were extracted into a literature matrix and analyzed thematically using collaborative governance and community-based tourism frameworks. The findings show that government and the regional company dominate policy, infrastructure, ticketing, and operational coordination, while communities contribute to visitor services, cleanliness, parking, local businesses, promotion, and cultural interpretation. Collaboration has produced economic opportunities and service improvements, but it remains operational-participatory rather than fully institutionalized. Success is supported by local economic incentives, role complementarity, leadership, community attachment, and capacity building. Major constraints include the absence of a permanent multi-stakeholder forum, unequal decision-making power, inconsistent safety and amenity standards, weak waste management, limited heritage protection, and inadequate joint monitoring. The study proposes a permanent collaborative forum, shared indicators, transparent benefit distribution, integrated safety management, and periodic evaluation.

Abstract

The discourse of contemporary Islamic education, particularly in Indonesia, is marked by an indeterminacy of foundational principles, resulting in their partial and normative interpretation. Consequently, Islamic education tends to be pragmatic and reactive toward modernity, lacking a solid philosophical or ontological construction. This condition undermines the teleological orientation of forming insan kamil as the ultimate goal of Islamic education, thereby losing a consistent transcendental paradigmatic framework. This study contributes to the reconstruction of the foundational principles of Islamic education through an in-depth examination of the concept of substantial motion (al-ḥarakah al-jawhariyyah) in the philosophy of Mullā Ṣadrā. Substantial motion is understood as an essential transformation occurring within existence (wujūd), rather than a mere accidental change. Within the context of Islamic education, this concept offers a paradigm shift: education is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but an existential transformation of the learner toward spiritual and intellectual perfection. Through library research employing a qualitative-philosophical approach and descriptive-analytical method, this study analyzes Mullā Ṣadrā’s seminal work Al-Ḥikmah al-Mutaʿāliyah, alongside relevant supporting literature. The findings reveal that the principles of Islamic education can be reconstructed within the framework of transcendental theosophy, which integrates ontological, epistemological, and spiritual dimensions. The study concludes that Mullā Ṣadrā’s transcendental philosophy provides a significant contribution to formulating holistic educational principles—centered on existential transformation and rooted in spiritual values. These insights open new avenues for curriculum development and redefine the role of the educator as a guide in the learner’s existential journey.

Abstract

The migration of female Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) is a growing phenomenon in rural areas in response to limited employment opportunities and economic pressures on households, including in Sendang Subdistrict, Tulungagung Regency. This study aims to analyze the impact of female PMI departure on the socio-psychological conditions of households, particularly changes in domestic roles, child-rearing patterns, and the quality of family communication. The study uses a quantitative descriptive approach through structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show a shift in gender roles within households, marked by the takeover of domestic and childcare tasks by husbands or other family members. In addition, the intensity and quality of long-distance communication has a significant effect on emotional attachment and family relationship stability. These findings confirm that female PMI migration not only has an impact on economic aspects, but also on the social and psychological well-being of households.

Abstract

This study examines the social criticism of Minangkabau customs in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck by Hamka. The novel not only presents a tragic love story between Zainuddin and Hayati but also conveys profound criticism of the social system and traditional customs within Minangkabau society, particularly regarding social stratification, matrilineal lineage, and perceptions of social status. The purpose of this research is to identify the forms of social criticism expressed by the author and analyze their relevance to societal conditions. This research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis techniques. The data were collected through an in-depth reading of the novel and analyzed using the perspective of sociology of literature. The findings reveal that Hamka strongly criticizes rigid and discriminatory customary practices, especially in matchmaking processes that prioritize social status over love and personal character. Furthermore, the novel highlights the marginalization of individuals who are not considered to have “pure” Minangkabau lineage, as experienced by the character Zainuddin, who faces social rejection. In conclusion, the novel serves as a medium of social criticism toward traditional practices that are no longer aligned with human values and justice.

Abstract

Waste management in coastal tourism areas is a complex issue that requires multi-stakeholder involvement. This study aims to analyze the implementation of collaborative governance in waste management in the Padang Beach Tourism Area, focusing on interaction patterns among actors, supporting factors, and existing challenges. A qualitative approach was employed through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving informants from the Environmental Agency as well as local communities and tourists. The findings reveal that waste management is still dominated by the Padang City Environmental Agency, indicating that collaborative governance has not been optimally implemented. Collaboration tends to be situational and emerges mainly during emergencies, such as the flash flood in November 2025, which significantly increased waste volume. Key challenges include low public awareness, limited facilities, weak inter- agency coordination, and the absence of structured collaboration mechanisms. This study recommends institutionalizing collaboration through multi-stakeholder forums, strengthening participatory regulations, improving infrastructure, and promoting continuous environmental education.
