Abstract

This study aims to find out what reduplications are contained in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” by TereLiye, which was published for the first time by Republika Publisher, in 2005. Novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” tells about Delisa (ChantiqSchagerl), a cheerful little girl who lives in Lhok Nga, a small village on the coast of Aceh, is the youngest child. On December 26, 2004, Delisa and Ummi were preparing for a prayer practice exam when suddenly an earthquake occurred which caused Ummi and Delisa's older siblings to die. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive type. The results of this study indicate that there are 4 types of reduplication in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” by TereLiye, namely Dwilingga, Dwipurwa, Dwilingga copying the sound and Repeating or repeated repetition. The most dominant reduplication is Dwilingga with a total of 172 words, repeated words with a number of 107 words, Dwilingga copying sounds, there are 4 words for changing vowels and 7 words for changing consonants, then the fourth and the least finding is found in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” is Dwipurwa with findings of 3 words.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the intrinsic elements in short stories by Widya Suwarna in terms of meaning and language. There are three titles of short stories analyzed namely“When the Sea is Angry”, “Calendar Mia Made”,and "The Beautiful Environment of Rini's Idea".The method used in this research is qualitative method. The results of this study found several intrinsic elements focused on Theme, Plot, Characters and Characterizations, Setting/Background, Point of View, Language Style and Message. On short stories"When the Sea is Angry"the theme of religion, in short stories“Mia's Custom Calendar”themed caring and on the story“The Beautiful Environment of Rini's Idea” environment themed. The three literary works of Widya Suwarna lead to stories with religious, caring and environmental themes which make a positive contribution to readers.

Abstract

In this thesis entitled An Analysis of Irony Used in Wednesday Addams Series, researchers will examine the existence the types of irony and the meaning contained in it. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. This drama series was chosen because there are many sentences that contain ironic language styles in it. The theory used to analyze the data uses semantic theory. The purpose of this research is to analyze irony sentences and then classify them based on the meaning they have so that they can produce certain types of irony. After analyzing the data, there are three types of irony, namely Verbal irony, Situational irony and Drama irony found in conversations and character interactions in each drama series.

Abstract

This article analyzes the usage of semantic relative tense in the dialogue of the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once" using a condensed descriptive qualitative analysis method. The focus of the analysis is on identifying and interpreting how tense variations impact the story's structure, the character's development, and the movie's themes. This methodology aims to reveal the temporal relationships, changes in meaning, and the overall effect of tense on the storytelling by closely examining the dialogues. This study offers helpful insights into the inventive use of tense in shaping the film's narrative and enhancing its cinematic experience through a systematic analysis of the dialogues.In the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” the dialogues uses present progressive tense for a confirmation from one character to another character, present tense to convey state in the present situation, past progressive tense to express ongoing hope or expectation in the past, and other tenses is used in this movie.

Abstract

This research analyzes the extrinsic elements and human rights principles in the novel. The Hate U Give is a novel about a teenager who suffered from discrimination as part of African American community. This research shown the treatment of human rights principles violations and strong relationship between the writer and her literature work. The purpose of this research is first, to identify extrinsic element in the novel. Second, to analyze human rights practice done by society in this novel. This study uses extrinsic approach by Warren and Wellek (1956). The method used is descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data in this research. The data sources are taken from the quotes in the novel. The finding in the research are first, this novel is a motivation of the writer to spread awareness about her childhood memory. Second, human rights principles are violated such as universality and inalienability, participation and inclusion, indivisibility, accountability and rule of law, lastly equality and non-discrimination.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the elements of argumentative writing in the form of claims, data and warrants in 5 speeches by Canadian President Justin Trudeau entitled "Prime Minister's Remarks in Tribute to the Honorable Jim Carr, Prime Minister's remarks at the B20 Summit in Bali Indonesia, Speaking notes for the National Statement of Canada at the Summit of the Americas, The Prime Minister and federal ministers announce gun control measures and Prime Minister's remarks introducing President Zelensky in the House of Commons.” The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive type. The results of this study indicate that there are 84 elements of argumentative writing consisting of 28 claims, 28 data, and 28 warrants.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to investigate The Improving Students’ Vocabulary By Using fiction Movie. The population of the study was the second year of the students of STIE Alwashliyah Sibolga in 2021/2022 academic year, the total number of students was 80 students. The sample consist of two classes, there were 40 students of II A as an control group and II B as a experimental group. The method of the study was quantitative research with pre-experimental approach. The instrument used in this researcher was a vocabulary. The pre-test and post-test were administrated. Based on the calculation, the mean score of pre-test was 76.75 and mean of post-test was 9575. So, it could be stated that the hypothesis “Improving Students’ Vocabulary By Using Fiction Movie. Based on the result, it could be concluded that there was an improvement of the English vocabulary students through fiction Movie.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out which characters are owned by Celaena Sardothein as the main character in the novel Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Mass, which was published by Bloomsbury on August 15, 2013. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive type. The results of this study indicate that there are 6 characters possessed by Celaena Sardothein in the novel Crown of Midnight, namely the characters Daredevil, Clever, Cruel, Vengeful, Obey and Smart and there is a value contained in the novel Crown of Midnight, namely the value of education in the form of a sense of "responsibility".

Abstract

The current research juxtaposes the two assumptions regarding the black cat, which arose in America and Indonesia, and ties them to the short story by Edgar Allan Poe titled "The Black Cat." The objective of the current research is to pinpoint the myth or meaning pertaining to black cats in each nation. A qualitative method will be employed in this inquiry. Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Black Cat" hires a myth or meaning that arose in the Americas, wherein black cats are thought to be witches.

Abstract

The novel The Namesake by JhumpaLahiri tells the story of Gogol Ganguli, an American-Indian man who was born in Calcutta, India, and raised in the United States. The novel explores themes of identity, culture, and family. In this novel, American and Indian cultures are depicted in contrast. American culture is characterized by individualism, freedom, and pragmatism. Meanwhile, Indian culture is characterized by collectivism, tradition and spirituality. The aim of the comparative cultural analysis in this novel is to explore and unravel the complex cultural interactions depicted in the narrative. Through this analysis, the researcher aims to uncover the complexities and nuances of the journey of the protagonist, Gogol Ganguli, as he adapts between his Indian heritage and the American lifestyle.
