Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji implementasi strategi pembelajaran kolaboratif untuk mengajar kosakata perbankan dalam bahasa inggris bagi mahasiswa sastra Inggris UMN-AW. Bagaimana mengajarkan kosakata dengan cara yang tepat merupakan masalah yang sangat pelik di kalangan para pendidik. Sebagian besar mereka menggunakan metode menghafal dimana murid harus menghafal 5 hingga 10 kosakata setiap minggu. Akan tetapi, banyak yang belum berhasil melalui metode tersebut. Pengajaran kosakata membutuhkan strategi pembelajaran yang tepat agar murid mampu menyerap kosakata tersebut dengan baik. Strategi pembelajaran berfungsi untuk memberikan situasi pembelajaran yang tersusun rapi untuk menciptakan suatu aktivitas kepada murid guna mencapai tujuan pembelajaran. Salah satu strategi pembelajaran yang tepat ialah strategi kolaboratif karena dianggap pembelajaran kolaboratif dapat menyediakan peluang untuk menuju pada kesuksesan praktek-praktek pembelajaran. Strategi pembelajaran kolaboratif melibatkan partisipasi aktif para mahasiswa dan meminimisasi perbedaan-perbedaan antar individu. Strategi tersebut menekankan pada kegiatan kelompok. Kegiatan kelompok ini sangat berguna untuk membangun hubungan yang baik antar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This research examined the modification of the concept of CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) in English for Tourism lectures in English literature studies at the Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah University, Medan. English For Tourism lectures involved theoretical and practical training in their implementation. One important theory taught to students was about how to communicate well and correctly in the world of tourism. Students often experienced difficulties in communicating and understanding various very diverse cultures in Indonesia in particular and in foreign countries in general. Language and culture learning not only provided an understanding of the definition but students were required to be able to find their own knowledge. Lecturers must have concepts that spur students to be able to think critically and creatively. One of the appropriate learning concepts for teaching English for Tourism courses was the concept of CTL (Contextual Teaching And Learning). The concept made it easier for students to understand all the theories that were conveyed during the lecture. CTL made innovative, creative and effective learning. CTL modification in English for Tourism lectures could make lectures more creative, and require students to think more critically. This meant they were encouraged to connect between the materials taught with everyday life in the world of tourism. Keywords:  Modification, CTL, English for Tourism

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan model pembelajaran role playing pada mata kuliah english for media. Model pembelajaran sering kali digunakan untuk mendapatkan informasi yang lebih banyak tentang gejala-gejala. Hal ini sesuai dengan fungsi model itu sendiri yaitu bersifat mencari. Berdasarkan pengamatan di Fakultas Sastra UMN AW proses pembelajaran masih didominasi oleh dosen, sehingga membuat mahasiswa pasif. Untuk mencapai kompetensi pembelajaran adalah melakukan perbaikan dengan menerapkan model role playing. Permasalahan: 1) Apakah model pembelajaran role playing tepat jika digunakan pada mata kuliah english for media? 2) Bagaimana respon mahasiswa setelah di terapkannya model pembelajaran role playing pada matakuliah english for media?. Tujuan: 1) Mengembangkan pemahaman tentang pengetahuan, keterampilan dan kemampuan yang dimiliki mahasiswa. 2) Mengetahui respon / tanggapan mahasiswa terhadap model role playing. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif metode survey. Instrument pada penelitian ini adalah angket yang berisikan beberapa item kuesioner pertanyaan terbuka tentang persepsi terhadap masalah penelitian. Selain kuesioner, wawancara juga dilakukan sebagai tindak lanjut dari pemberian angket agar hasil penelitian lebih akurat.

Abstract

This community service aims to help certain communities in several activities. One of the services is carried out at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 03 Medan. This community service is Flash card Media in Teaching English vocabulary. Given the important role of vocabulary in language, learning vocabulary is a very important concern in learning English. For kindergarten students learning vocabulary in English is not an easy thing to get new vocabulary that is incorporated into teachers who have difficulty in learning vocabulary.The community service team is interested in holding this service by trying to use flashcard media in learning English with the hope that the students of TK Kemala Bhayangkari 03 Medan can add new vocabulary in English through flashcard media.

Abstract

The study deals with improving students’ vocabulary mastery through watching English films. The formulations of the problem are (1)Is watching English films effective in increasing students’ vocabulary? (2) What  English film can improve students’ vocabulary?. The purpose of the study is (1) to find out the effectiveness of watching English film can increase students’ vocabulary. (2) to know kind of English film can improve students’ vocabulary. The sample of this research is forty students from the second  yearsstudents of SMA Ksatria Medan. The technique of the collecting of the data by using questionare and test. Abstract

The main objectives of this research are to find: 1) what are the personality of the main character in Freud's Psychoanalysis? and 2) what kind of conflicts are experienced by the main character. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This thesis discusses psychoanalysis developed by Sigmund Freud: id, ego and superego. This thesis also discusses the conflicts experienced by the main character: internal conflicts (related to the psychology of the main character) and external conflicts (related to other characters, society, nature or things outside of her).

Abstract

This study is propose to reveal find out what kind of rebellion the main character did. The purpose of this study is to analyze rebellion based on inhumanity. And to analyze the rebellion in the novel The Hunger Games (2008). Data collection is by regularly reading novels and understanding the contents of the novel, then finding some existing data. The theory used to analyze the data uses a behavioristic approach theory. After analyzing the data, several reasons and goals of Katniss as the main character in the novel were found in participating in the game event.

Abstract

English as an international language is used in various fields of life. One of them is in agriculture. One of the important components in learning English is vocabulary mastery. Mastery of vocabulary is considered an important part of the process of learning a language or developing one's ability in a language. Proper learning is needed so that students are able to master vocabulary easily and correctly, especially UMN Al Washliyah students in this case mastering agricultural English vocabulary. One of the effective learning approaches is the contextual approach (CTL). CTL is a learning concept that helps teachers relate subjects to real situations. In this CTL there are seven important elements, namely inquiry, questioning, constructivist, modeling, learning community, authentic assessment, and reflection. The seven elements can be applied in the whole learning process. This research focuses on one element, namely the modeling component. This study used a single group pre-test and post-test experimental design method. There are two types of data analysis methods used in this study. The first is descriptive statistics (to analyze data based on frequency distribution: mean, median, mode, standard deviation, histogram, and polygon) and the second is inferential analysis including homogeneity and normality tests.

Abstract

This research is concentrated in the aspect of structure especially tenses. The existence of tenses in English is an obligatory in opposite there is no English without the use of tenses. Thus tense has a very significant function in English. With qualitative research, it can be found that several types of tenses are used in delivering sentences of English Friday Sermon. They are the most dominant tense is Simple Present Tense. Then the other tenses used in English Friday Sermon are Present Perfect Tense, Simple Future Tense and Simple Past Tense.
