Abstract

The prevalence of stunting among toddlers in Indonesia, at 21,6%, is a major public health issue. Chronic malnutrition during the first 1.000 days of life is a major cause of stunting, requiring effective and sustainable nutritional interventions based on local food sources. Moringa leaves (Moringa Oleifera) are known as a highly nutritious food with high nutritional content such as iron, protein, calcium, vitamins C and A, which can support child growth. This literature study evaluates the nutritional content of moringa leaves, the effectiveness of moringa leaf consumption interventions in preventing stunting, as well as the success factors and challenges of implementing moringa leaf supplementation in various forms (powder, extract, biscuits, pudding) significantly increases children’s weight, height, and HAZ scores, as well as reducing the prevalence of stunting. Regular consumption and product innovations that appeal to children enhance acceptance and effectiveness of interventions. Moringa leaves offer a local, economical, and sustainable solution for stunting prevention; however, multisectoral support and education are needed to optimize their benefits on a broader scale.

Abstract

The prevalence of smoking in Indonesia is very high and has become a public health problem. According to 2023 WHO data, the proportion of cigarettes among the adult population (15+) in Indonesia reached around 34.5%. To address this, the role of the community is essential as a proxy for behavior change. This study reviewed literature and secondary data (WHO, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, BPS, and academic studies) to understand how local community involvement can prevent the spread of smoking. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative study with content analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. The results of the study indicate that community empowerment programs such as anti-smoking campaigns involving community leaders and community-based health education raise awareness and change social norms about smoking (Halim et al., 2024; Sugiyo & Sutrino, 2021). For example, the "Kampung Tanpa Asap Rokok" (Smoke-Free Village) in Surabaya successfully created a smoke-free environment through community mobilization (Sadono & Fatah, 2018). In conclusion, community participation effectively strengthens tobacco control efforts when accompanied by supportive policies, therefore it is recommended to intensify community-based approaches to smoking prevention. (WHO, 2025; Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2024).

Abstract

Supplying only breast milk (ASI) in the first six months of a child's life plays a crucial role in promoting healthy development and strengthening the immune system. Nonetheless, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia continues to fall short of the desired target. Several contributing factors include mothers' lack of knowledge, attitudes, and skills in lactation management. One effort that can increase breastfeeding success is education about lactation management and the application of lactation massage. This study aims to identify the correlation between management education and lactation massage with maternal behavior in providing breast milk. This study uses a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design and a quantitative methodology. Using the complete sampling approach, the sample size was 30 people, and the population was made up of breastfeeding mothers. A questionnaire that evaluated moms' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors both before and after receiving education served as the research tool. The Wilcoxon signed rank test has been used in data analysis to find significant differences between the outcomes before and after the intervention. The research results showed that before education, the majority of mothers had sufficient knowledge (50%), negative attitudes (56.7% disagreed), and balanced actions between doing and not doing lactation massage (50% each). After education, almost all respondents had good knowledge (96.7%), positive attitudes (43.3% strongly agreed), and all respondents (100%) performed lactation massage. The Wilcoxon test produced ap value = 0.000 (p < 0.05) which indicates a significant difference between before and after the intervention.

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of fast food consumption and its impact on students' health in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with literature study method, this research examines the characteristics of fast food, driving factors for consumption, and resulting health implications. The results indicate that fast food has strong appeal for students due to its practicality, affordable price, and modern image. However, excessive consumption leads to various health problems such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other degenerative diseases. These findings underscore the urgency of nutritional education and structured interventions to establish healthy consumption patterns among students.

Abstract

This literature review discusses the effect of sleep duration on students’ school activities, focusing on learning engagement, concentration, and academic performance. Based on an analysis of 20 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2024, a consistent positive correlation was found between adequate sleep and optimal cognitive function. Learners who consistently obtain more than seven hours of sleep per night tend to demonstrate better academic results, participate more actively in learning activities, and show greater emotional stability compared to sleep-deprived students. Research also indicates that poor sleep habits can lead to fatigue, mood disturbances, and decreased motivation to learn. Therefore, this study asserts that sufficient sleep is essential to support students’ performance at school and recommends the promotion of sleep hygiene education in both school and home environments to encourage adolescents to adopt healthy sleep habits.

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between social media use and sleep disorders among adolescents in Indonesia. Through a meta-analysis approach of three main studies, this study examined the causal mechanisms, predisposing factors, and health implications of social media dependence. The results showed a consistent significant association between social media intensity and decreased sleep quality in adolescents, with an average of 69.3% being active users and 65.3% experiencing poor sleep quality. Statistical analysis revealed a strong correlation (coefficient of 0.646) and a significant relationship (p-value <0.001). These findings underscore the urgency of digital health education and structured interventions to reduce the negative impact of social media on adolescent sleep health.

Abstract

Children's mental health is crucial for healthy growth and development, both physically and emotionally. One of the most significant influences is the family. This article summarizes various literature and research from the past five years, both domestic and international, that discuss how families shape and maintain children's mental health. From the various sources reviewed, it was found that the way parents raise their children, their communication with their children, their emotional stability, and the relationships between family members significantly influence children's mental health. This article also recommends greater family involvement in prevention and treatment programs for children's mental health issues, particularly in education and social policy.

Abstract

Effective waste management in the school environment is a strategic step in shaping environmental care behaviour from an early age. This study aims to review the practices of organic and inorganic waste management in schools and assess the level of students' awareness of the importance of sustainable waste management. The method used is a qualitative descriptive study with observation techniques, interviews, and the distribution of questionnaires to school staff. However, the implementation is not consistent and is still limited to administrative aspects related to waste management, but the implementation in the field is still not optimal. The level of students' awareness of the importance of waste management is in the medium category, with the main motivation coming from the influence of teachers and school environment programs. This study suggests the need to improve environmental education in a sustainable manner and provide adequate waste management facilities as a form of support for environmentally friendly behaviour among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Al Azhar Medan's flagship high school in strengthening students' digital literacy as an effort to maintain adolescent mental health in the digital era. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the school has a strong commitment to building a culture of digital literacy through the integration of technology into learning, training for teachers, and the formation of a student digital community. Digital literacy is not only understood as technical skills, but also includes ethics, responsibility, and reflective awareness of the impact of social media on psychological well-being. Increased digital literacy has been shown to contribute to reducing levels of stress, anxiety, and social pressure experienced by students. The school implements educational, collaborative, and preventive strategies through programs such as digital well-being seminars, Islamic digital ethics training, and thematic counseling. Challenges faced include limited learning time and the gap in digital skills among students, but these can be overcome through mentoring and collaboration between teachers, students, and parents. This study confirms that strengthening digital literacy plays a crucial role in shaping adolescent character that is resilient, mentally healthy, and responsible in using technology.
