Abstract

Maintenance of production machinery is crucial for maintaining the quality of the production process. At PTPN VI Solok, there is a significant issue with the Close Roll Printing Machine, which plays a vital role in the tea pressing process. This study aims to understand the maintenance requirements of the Press Cap Roller Machine and provide maintenance recommendations using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) methods. FMEA is utilized to examine and track potential failures, while RCM aims to select, develop, and create effective maintenance strategies. The FMEA analysis revealed that the crankshaft is the predominant cause of failure, with a Risk Priority Number (RPN) value of 17.07%. RCM analysis indicated that the Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) for components ranges between 1433.4 and 1811 hours. Recommendations for improvements include checking the crankshaft rotation to ensure it runs smoothly and performing maintenance according to the schedule. Additionally, regular gearbox inspections are crucial, such as checking oil levels, oil circulation conditions, gearbox area leaks, and replacing the gearbox according to the component's lifespan to maintain optimal performance. Other maintenance suggestions involve direct prevention of failure sources and appropriate maintenance, regular bearing replacements and inspections as per the schedule, and routine checks of electrical current and temperature. The implementation of FMEA and RCM methods is expected to provide more structured and effective solutions for maintenance issues, thereby maintaining the quality of the tea production process. This approach also aims to extend the machine's lifespan and reduce unexpected maintenance costs, thus enhancing the company's operational productivity and efficiency.

Abstract

Rattan as an alternative material in product, has a significant resource for personal use and commercial activities in Indonesia, particularly in West Sumatra. Initially, its trade focused on raw materials and semi-finished products, but it later evolved into the production and distribution of finished rattan goods, managed primarily by wholesalers in the region. Beyond rattan processing, finished rattan products have been extensively marketed. In recent years, rattan's application has expanded into the realm of interior design, finding use in furniture and interior accessories. Alongside natural rattan, synthetic rattan has emerged as an alternative material, created using synthetic base materials to serve as substitutes. This innovation originated from efforts by the government and artisans to address material shortages while promoting environmental sustainability. Synthetic rattan offers versatility in texture, color, and shape, making it easy to combine with other materials such as aluminum and iron. Despite the traditional perception of rattan furniture, particularly chairs, as outdated, synthetic rattan furniture has gained popularity due to its adaptability to modern design trends. Craftsmen have developed synthetic rattan chairs in various styles, catering to evolving tastes and preferences. These products are increasingly utilized to meet the high demand for diverse designs in the interior design industry. To better understand this growing trend, qualitative research has been conducted to explore the expanding role of rattan—both natural and synthetic—in interior design and its implications for production and trade.

Abstract

Rattan is one of the primary forest products in Indonesia, following timber in terms of recognition and utilization. Its unique characteristics, such as flexibility, strength, and durability, make it a preferred raw material for the furniture and handicraft industries. Despite its potential, the development of Indonesia’s rattan industry has been relatively slow. In response, the Indonesian government issued a regulation in 2011 to restrict the export of raw and semi-finished rattan to boost domestic production and value-added processes. According to the Indonesian Rattan Foundation (2010), the annual demand for semi-finished Manau rattan in Indonesia reached 619,538 tons, while the need for finished rattan stood at 533,658 tons. This demand is expected to increase due to government procurement programs supporting domestic production. Indonesia dominates the global rattan market, accounting for approximately 80% of global rattan supply, with production centers located in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Papua. West Sumatra is a notable producer, ranking as the sixth-largest rattan-producing province in the country. In Padang, West Sumatra, the rattan processing industry operates as a small and medium enterprise (SME) sector under the city’s Department of Industry, Trade, Mining, and Energy. However, the current production capacity of 48 tons per year in Padang remains insufficient to meet national demand, indicating a significant opportunity for industry expansion and value chain enhancement to strengthen Indonesia’s position as the leading rattan producer globally.

Abstract

Productivity cycle analysis is a necessity for every company, it is intended to determine the level of performance that has been set and as an evaluation for performance improvement in the future. The problem that occurs is that the level of productivity fluctuates and there is a decrease in the productivity index, where the value of input goes up and output goes down. The purpose of this study is to determine the measurement of productivity and productivity index and how to increase the productivity. The method proposed is David J. Sumanth. The data used are input and output data. The results obtained are the productivity level of total output and input for the first period of 2.90%, the second period of 2.79%, the third period of 2.88%, the fourth period of 3.33% and the fifth period of 3.06%. The figures obtained from the productivity calculation show that each month the ratio of output and input is still not balanced. The highest index occurred in 2020 at 1.16% and the lowest index occurred in 2018 at 0.97%. This is because the partial input input also fluctuates.
