Abstract

This study is a advances study of the development of geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's thinking theory with the aim of for enhancing critical thinking ability using the ADDIE development model. In this study, a difference test was conducted to determine the effect of using geometry multimedia on students' critical thinking abilities. This experiment was conducted at SDN Mojoroto 1 and SDN Mojoroto 6 Kota Kediri. The results of the t-test analysis show that there are significant differences between the critical thinking abilities of students who use geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's thinking theory and those who do not use geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's Thinking Theory.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the problem-based learning approach on students’ achievement in Trigonometry in Senior High Schools in the Hohoe Municipality of Volta region in Ghana. The research was a mixed method that employed a quasi-experimental non-equivalent comparison group design to compare the achievements of students exposed to a problem-based learning approach and that of the traditional approach. A convenient sampling technique was used to select two Senior High Schools in the Hohoe Municipality which served as comparison and experimental groups respectively. Data was collected using instruments such as questionnaires, trigonometric achievement tests, and semi-structured interviews. A sample of 94 students comprising of 45 in the comparison group and 49 in the experimental group was used for the study. The findings revealed that the problem-based learning approach is very effective for teaching and learning of trigonometry since it promoted students’ active participation in the instructional process, content mastery and improved their creative thinking and independent problem-solving skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe ethnomathematics on Dayak Tabun traditional tools in school mathematics learning. This study uses a qualitative approach, with descriptive research methods. Observation techniques are direct observation and communication techniques, namely interviews with Dayak Tabun community leaders, especially makers, users, and traditional stakeholders. the results of the research obtained are: 1) form, learning context in geometric concepts, namely flat and wake up space; 2) aspects of the motive, the learning context in the geometry concepts, like are two-dimensional, lines, and angles, besides that the algebraic concept is a number pattern in the form of a constant sequence; 3) the way of making, the learning context in the algebraic concept of numbers, namely fractions in dividing the material into two parts, calculating operations especially on natural numbers, sequential numbers through measurement of materials; 4) in terms of the use of tools, the context of calculating operating learning is the tool used in the dance, namely the tapping of movements and elevation angles in trigonometric material, namely the use of a Sangkuh Akai tool. Therefore, ethnomathematics on traditional Dayak Tabun ethnic instruments can be used as the context of school mathematics learning.

Abstract

Asynchronous motors have been used extensively in the industry since the first discovery. Although the general working principles do not change, they can be made geometrically in the form of cylinders, spheres, cones and even discs. One of these geometries is known as axial flux machine topology which has a disc structure. Axial flux machines are remarkable in terms of their high efficiency, high power density and advantage in terms of compact structures. In this study, extended literature search of axial flux induction motor is given. In addition to the literature, axial induction motor design interface has been created by using MATLAB GUI software. This interface can communicate with ANSYS Maxwell. Thus, the dimensioning values of the machine calculated via the interface can be drawn automatically in Ansys Maxwell and it can perform numerical analysis. The obtained torque, current and efficiency data were evaluated.

Abstract

The understanding mathematics ability is important for high school students. However, the reality that happened at SMAN 6 Banda Aceh, students' mathematical understanding still has not reached completeness so that it affects the final score of mathematics subjects. The cause of the problem is due to teacher-centered learning which makes learning meaningless. Therefore, a meaningful learning model is needed so that it can improve students' mathematical understanding ability. One of the meaningful learning models is the Problem Based Learning model. Based on this background, this research aims to:to find out the increase in students' mathematical understanding skills with the Problem Based Learning modelat SMAN 6Banda Aceh. This research is a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class XI IPA-2 as the experimental class consisting of 30 students with the PBL model and class XI IPA-1 as the control class consisting of 29 students with the conventional model. The data collection technique is done by test. The research instrument used is a test of mathematical understanding ability. The data analysis technique used independent sample t-test. The results showed that the value of sig. count more than sig. alpha, so it can be concluded that the increase in students' mathematical understanding through the PBL model is better than the mathematical understanding of students who get conventional learning.

The 21st century demanded that humans have various life skills. HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) was a competency that leads to the formation of various 21st century life skills. Achieving HOTS on educational process was the basis. This study aimed to produce a HOTS-based assess-ment instrument in educational statistics that was valid and reliable. This research and develop-ment consisted of 8 steps, namely (1) determining the specifications of the instrument, (2) writing the instrument, (3) making a measurement scale, (4) selecting a rating system, (5) reviewing the instrument, (6) testing the instrument, (7) analyze the instrument, (8) compose the instrument. The research subjects were students of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Islamic Universi-ty Professor K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri in the fourth and sixth semesters as many as 194 people for the 2020-2021 academic years. Data collected by tests. Data analyzed was in the form of validation (content and construct) and reliability tests. The research produced a valid and reliable HOTS-based test as many as 32 items with Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.658 in the high category.
