Abstract

The purpose of this study was to reveal the implementation of mobile and computer-based dynamic assessment (DA) in developing the learning potential of English language education study program students in writing argumentative essays at a Pontianak university, Indonesia. This case study investigated the implementation of DA by an experienced English lecturer to provide some strategies and ways to mediate students in producing argumentative essays. Data analysis found that the lecturer mediated the students through dialogue in WhatsApp groups and mediation on student essay drafts (online). Mediation with a 'praise-hint-suggestion' pattern mainly on content, organization, language, lexicon, and mechanics. Relevant pedagogical implications for DA practices for English language education students and teachers are also discussed in this paper.   ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap implementasi dynamic assessment (DA) berbasis seluluer dan komputer dalam mengembangkan potensi belajar mahasiswa program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris dalam menulis essay argumentatif di perguruan tinggi Pontianak, Indonesia. Studi kasus ini menyelidiki implementasi DA oleh seorang dosen Inggris yang berpengalaman untuk memberikan beberapa strategi serta cara memediasi mahasiswa dalam menghasilkan essay argumentatif. Analisis data mengungkapkan bahwa dosen memediasi mahasiswa melalui dialog di WhatsApp group serta mediasi pada draft essay mahasiswa (secara daring). Mediasi dengan pola ‘pujian-petunjuk-saran’ terutama pada konten, organisasi, bahasa, leksikan, dan mekaniks. Implikasi pedagogis yang relevan untuk praktik DA untuk mahasiswa dan guru pendidikan bahasa Inggris dibahas dalam makalah ini.
