Abstract

Knee Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition that occurs in the knee joint which is a progressive degenerative disease. This case can occur in all joints, usually will be experienced by someone with the age of more than 45 years, this is due to cartilage. Symptoms that often arise are stiffness in the morning and there is also crepitus when making movements in the knee. The prevalence always increases dramatically with age, which is characterized by knee pain, reduced joint range of motion, and difficulty performing daily activities. In this case, the respondent experienced pain and stiffness in the right knee. This causes respondents to have difficulty in carrying out daily activities. In this study, researchers chose physiotherapy interventions in the form of manual therapy (Knee Oscillation Traction, Mulligan Mobilization With Movement (MWM) Knee Flexion-Extension, Patellofemoral Mobilization), exercise therapy (Strengthening Flexor-Extensor Knee, Isometric Hamstring Set, Calf Rise, Functional Exercise) , cryotherapy (cold compresses) to reduce pain and also increase functional activity in patients with Osteoarthritis Knee (OA). After 8 sessions of physiotherapy intervention, there was a decrease in pain and a decrease in the disability score experienced by the patient. Keywords: Knee Osteoarthritis, Therapy Manual, Exercise Therapy, Functional Ability, Pain Reduction

Abstract

Ankle is a joint that supports the body to maintain balance when walking on uneven surfaces. These joints are composed of bones, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue bundles. The ankle joint is formed by four bones, namely the tibia, fibula, talus and calcaneus. The main movements of the ankle joint occur in the tibia, talus and calcaneus. The purpose of this study was to determine pain in the acute stage of ankle sprain after being given rest and ice therapy for three consecutive days. This type of research is a type of quantitative research that is quasi-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design approach. Prior to the intervention, respondents were given a pretest or pain scale measurement using the VAS. The results showed that the effect of rest and ice on reducing acute pain in patients with acute ankle sprains at the Medan Adventist Hospital was 0.002. Which is if Sig < 0.05 then there is a significant effect. The conclusion of this study concludes that there is a significant effect of rest and ice on the reduction of acute ankle sprain pain in the acute stage. Keywords: Acute pain, ankle sprain, rest and ice therapy
