Abstract

This paper analyzes transnationalism as the result of globalization in human mobility, which it has summoned new insecurities, especially when international migration as the excess of transnationalism leads to a burst of issues on the sea border, such as influx of migration, asylum seeker, refugees, and even transnational crimes. Thus, it is very important for Indonesia as a growing maritime state to put more attention to the matter, especially to the eastern part of the archipelago, where transnationalism brings different implication toward nationalism of its people. Through historical methodology and perspective, this article discusses relevant issues to be reflected into current situation and the future, in which it could lead to a more sustainable solution and a further observation toward what it means to be a part of Indonesia itself, to fulfill the need of rephrasing the means of our borders.

Abstract

n today`s Nigeria, unchecked spate of violence has gradually surfaced through slippages in human character and garner to domestic terrorism in many communities. Consequences reflect in development plans schemed for these communities. Ika community has experienced this setback significantly among others in terms of development. The dimensions the institutions responsible for countering this enigma take seem to aggravate more terrifying scenarios which end in injuries, tears and even loss of lives. This paper examines how the costumes of Akakum performance tone down domestic terrorism in Ika community. It uses qualitative methodology and interview as its methodology and bases the framework on functionalism. Findings show that chaos are developing in communities as sub-cultures like traditional performances which were viable tools for curtailing antisocial manners have been relegated to the background because of the constant absorption of foreign cultures that do not fit into the context of Nigeria’s perception of social manners. Traditional performances maintain in-built principles that prevent members from transgressing. The body accessories of Akakum are believed to embody supra-mundane powers which deter initiates from indulging in domestic terrorism that pervaded Ika community for many years. The paper concludes that traditional performances should be revitalized, secularized and given a global appeal. If traditional performances are secularized, they may attract tourists` interest; become a foreign income earner and also serve as tools of social control and development in the community

Abstract

The theatre provides an avenue for the expression of very salient and topical issues about a people through the presentation of performances. These performances, which are often in form of plays, are always created by playwrights and that is why playwrights are said to be the watch dogs of the society because their works x-ray past and present situations while proffering solutions for the future. However, the theatre is a composite art which involves the collaboration of many creative artists: Playwright, Director, Stage Manager, Actor(s), Designer(s), amongst others. The designer(s) are the creative artists that interpret the play in visual terms. Their creativity gives a better understanding to the play in performance as the dramatic piece is given further expressions through the actors‟ costumes, properties, lighting and scenery. This essay will interrogated the use of costume and set design in bridging ethnic divides using a Workshop performance of “Asiri Nla” as performed by students of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka at the Arts Theatre. The study found that through an effective set design and appropriate use of costumes that the production was able to unite different peoples under one roof without acrimony thus, it recommended at the effectiveness of design in theatrical productions is a sure way of enhancing national integration.

Abstract

The 21st Century is marked with the development society that has close relationships with microelectronics network, network society. According to Manuell Castells, the network society is a society using microelectronic network as the basis of its activity. In this study, researchers sought to formulate a paradigm of network librarianship by building a common ontology which is then reflected by Manuel Castells network society theory. This study used a qualitative approach with philosophical approach. Documents are used for collecting the data and analysis. Researchers used hermeneutics approach by Hans Georg Gadamer. Research results showed that the unique characteristics of the network society found by Manuel Castells. As we known, the evolution chain of society had a serious implication for human being. Librarianship need to evaluate and rethink their based scientific paradigm to seek information phenomena being, especially for 21st century.
