Abstract

Palangka Raya, as the provincial capital and center of government, has a strategic position in supporting Central Kalimantan's economic growth. The economic sector in Palangka Raya City is supported by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the fields of trade, culinary, handicrafts and services, which rely on local resources and unique local wisdom   from the indigenous Dayak Ngaju tribe community. Adequate economic centers in Palangka Raya City, such as traditional markets and modern shopping centers, also contribute to the dynamics of MSMEs in Palangka Raya apart from Dekranasda. Many small businesses use traditional markets as the main place to market their products. However, challenges such as competition with products from outside the region and lack of product standardization often become obstacles for local MSME players. MSME centers in Palangka Raya City have great opportunities to continue to develop. The Palangka Raya City Government realizes the importance of supporting the growth of MSMEs as part of its regional economic development strategy. Various programs have been launched, both by the Department of Cooperatives and MSMEs and other related agencies, to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of MSME players. The research aims to formulate an adaptive Indonesian architectural concept for the MSME Center in Palangka Raya City. The research method uses qualitative methods through literature studies, comparative studies based on survey and interview data, as well as precedent studies to study archipelago architectural approaches. The Indonesian architectural approach pays attention to aspects of sustainability, local wisdom and flexibility in its use. The proposed design concept combines traditional elements such as roofs, natural ventilation and the use of local materials with modern technology to increase energy efficiency and user comfort. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the development of sustainable and culturally valuable MSME center designs in Indonesia.

Abstract

The University of Palangka Raya (UPR) plays a strategic role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship based on the local potential of Central Kalimantan through the development of a business incubator center. However, the absence of purposedesigned and contextresponsive incubation facilities has become a major constraint in accelerating startup growth and the downstream commercialization of research outputs. This study aims to formulate a design concept for the University of Palangka Raya Business Incubator Center through a green architecture approach that is adaptive, sustainable, and responsive to user needs and the local environment. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature review and conceptual analysis to establish design variables and criteria for the business incubator. The design framework is developed through the integration of green architecture principles, tropical climatic characteristics, and the local potential of Central Kalimantan, including sustainable forestry, tropical agriculture and agroindustry, and culturebased creative economy sectors. The findings indicate that the application of conceptual variables and design criteriacomprising spatial functions and programs, hybrid incubator typology, spatial flexibility, indoor environmental comfort, tropical climate responsiveness, local cultural context, and environmental sustainabilitycan serve as a foundation for designing an adaptive and contextsensitive business incubator center. The integration of local potential into spatial strategies and architectural form strengthens the building’s identity while supporting sustainable development principles. Thus, the business incubator functions not only as an economic facility but also as a medium for learning, innovation, and the reinforcement of the university’s role in regional development.

Abstract

Gedung Sate, located in Bandung, is a symbol of cultural acculturation, representing a blend of European colonial architecture and Nusantara architectural elements. Built in 1920 and designed by Dutch architect Johan Gerber, the building displays influences from modern European architecture, such as the Italian Renaissance, Amsterdam School, and Art Deco, combined with local elements. The presence of Nusantara architectural elements, such as traditional roof shapes and temple-style ornaments, not only serves as an aesthetic element but also plays a role in shaping the building's visual and symbolic identity. This study aims to examine the role of Nusantara architecture in shaping the character of the Gedung Sate building, particularly through the analysis of facade elements, roofs, and openings. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study approach and visual analysis of the building's architectural elements. The results of the study indicate that the integration of Nusantara architectural elements contributes significantly to the architectural character of Gedung Sate, both from a visual, symbolic, and contextual aspect to the tropical environment. Thus, Gedung Sate can be understood as a hybrid architecture that reflects a harmonious collaboration between European and Nusantara styles. This study is expected to enrich our understanding of the role of local architecture in shaping the identity of colonial buildings in Indonesia.
