Abstract

Background:Individuals use spoken language when they speak, which is a sort of verbal communication. Speaking is animportant action in which a speaker presents his or her ideas and communicates with the audience. The messagedelivered by words or spoken language that provides meaning is referred to as verbal communication (Krauss,2012). Methodology:According to Creswell (2009:3), the term "research design" encompasses everything from study objectives andprocesses to particular data collection and analysis methodologies. As instructional materials, the authoremployed TikTok videos. The author applied the Experimental Method in this study, particularly for PreExperimental research. The "One Group Pretest-Posttest" design was employed in thisstudy. Findings:The data for this study were gatheredusing anoral test. The test was separated into two parts: pre-test and posttest. In the pre-test, students were given random questions thenthe students answer by speak up orally in the class. In the post-test, students were given the new random questions that different from pre-test then studentsanswer by speak up in front of class. Conclusion:Based on the result of the pre-test and post-test, it was found that the test was 29.94 by applying 0.05 level of significancewith 34 degree of freedom (df = 35 - 1 = 34) the author obtained t-table value 2.0322 from themean score of pre-test 168 and mean score of post-test 218. It shows that English Content from Tiktok videoshas significant effect in term of speaking proficiency. Originality:Speaking is a crucial tool in our daily lives for receiving messages and exchanging ideas. It is an interactiveaction in which the speaker generates, receives, and analyzes information in order to construct meaning. Abstract

AbstractBackground:Listening is one of the basic English skill that mus be mastered. Listening is a listen activity where we hear something, be it a speech, a lecture, or an explanation about something from someone else, where we not only hear but also have to listen and understand and then gain new knowledge from what we hear (Tyagi, 2013).Methodology:This research doing by Classroom Action Research method. The subject of this research was XI-MIPA grade of SMA Negeri 1 SILUQ NGURAI 2022/2023 year of academic and consist of 29 students member. The objective of this research was to improve students’ listening skill in English Lesson by using Blind Legend game at XI-MIPA grade of SMA Negeri 1 SILUQ NGURAI. This research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data is collected through quantitative and qualitative data. The research purpose is to increase students’ ability in listening English by using Blind Legend game. Findings:This research showed result of increasing that happen on students ability in Listening. The students mean score from pretest until post-test cycle 2 was 66,2, 81,3 and 90,1. The students improvement percentage scores who pass the criteria of success >75 also show changes from the pretest only 6 students (20,7%), post-test cycle I up to 26 student (89,7%) and the final result from post-test cycle II that 28 student (96,6%)Conclusion:Based on the pretest down to the second cycle post-test result and the data got by the researcher on the class, Blind Legend games effectively help students to improve listening skill showed by their scores. Especially the students response toward the teaching process using CAR method. It can be said that the students likes Blind Legend game. It proven by their interest to the material in the class, and perform a dialogue and audio listen then understand what the dialogue talk about.Originality:This research can used for references and help student or teacher to understand how improve listening skill using Blind Legend game in teaching and learning process.

Abstract

AbstractBackground:Human communicate by using sentences in daily life. There are two types pf sentences usually used by people in an utterance declarative and interrogative sentence and it is important to know the meaning for every structure of sentences in order to avoid misunderstand between people. This study aims to analyze types and deep structure of Declarative and Interrogative sentences that appeared in “Don’t Look Up” MovieMethodology: The researcher used a design for content analysis. The characters shown in the film "Don't Look Up" are the focus of this investigation. The study's focus was on the declarative and interrogative language employed by the movie's characters. A checklist served as the study's main tool.Findings: The researcher discovered there are 117 declarative sentences, 79 (67.6%) positive declarative sentences, and 38 (31.5%) negative declarative sentences. Meanwhile, for the interrogative sentences, the researcher found there are 132 interrogative sentences, 77 (58.3%) wh questions, 54 (40.9%) yes-no questions, and 1 (0.7%) alternative question and the deep structure of declarative sentence used Subject and Noun phrase to create sentence and for the interrogative sentence used Complementizer and Sentence for its structure.Conclusion: In declarative types, the frequent used types declarative sentence was positive declarative sentence and for interrogative sentences, the character most used was wh questions in dialogue. (Brown & Miller, 1991) as a guidance theory to draw the tree diagram where the deep structure of a declarative sentence consists of a noun phrase and verb phrase while the interrogative sentence needs to attach the wh-question word or the auxiliary to the complementizer and followed by a noun phrase and verb phraseOriginality: This research can used for references and help student or readers to understand deeper the interrogative and declarative sentence and its structure.

Abstract

Background: Learning vocabulary for elementary school students requires a kind of special treatment so that students can pay more attention and focus on learning. Cartoon movie is one of the media that can be used for learning activities. Methodology: This research is an experimental type with a one group pretest-posttest design and data analysis techniques using the Paired Sample T Test as well as using cartoon movie “Dora the Explorer” as a treatment to find out whether there was an increase in students' vocabulary mastery or not. Findings: The results of this study showed an increase in students' vocabulary mastery from the results of the data obtained by the researcher from the pre-test and post-test scores after being given treatment. Conclusion: The researcher concluded that cartoon movies can be used as learning media to improve vocabulary skills in student because it is evident from the result of the tests and treatments given that there is a significant increase in scores. in the first meeting there was an increase in the average pre-test score from 65.50 to 82.00 in the post-test average score, and at the second meeting there was also an increase in the average score from 42.50 in the pre-test results to 77.50 in the post-test results. Originality: Cartoons are characterized by bright colors, varying degrees of movement, simple themes or messages for children to understand, shorter duration, variety of sounds, and other stimuli that appeal to children. The vocabulary contained in the cartoon is also simple which will make it easier for children to remember the vocabulary.

Abstract

In the learning process at school, of course, teachers and students have learning targets or minimum scores of success indexes that students must achieve. In that case, students' understanding and effective test tools in achieving learning outcomes are very necessary. The research was conducted by taking samples in the tenth grade at SMA Negeri 11 Samarinda, this study aims to see whether there is real significance if students are given different types and forms of tests in creating better learning outcomes. How important is the comfort and understanding of students in answering and understanding exercises or exams related to learning material. Therefore, researcher used AKM to try whether there is a significance in the ability to understand questions and increase learning outcomes. In the end, the results of the research show that AKM is effective for student learning outcomes. and is very good for measuring students' understanding abilities in learning material, especially English lesson.

Abstract

Background: Mobile learning is a learning model by utilizing information and communication technology. One form of technology that can be used in mobile learning is smartphones. There is a wide variety of smartphones that offer incredible sophistication in various features and applications. With various features that can be installed or run online, smartphones can be used as learning media. Methodology: This study used a qualitative approach and a case study as the research design. Moreover, the researcher used interviews and observation as the instrument to collect the data. The subjects in this study are five students. Findings: The findings revealed positive perceptions and the obstacles of mobile learning in Distance Learning. The results of this study stated that the subjects were greatly helped by the presence of mobile learning. Mobile learning is very helpful for subjects to find information and communication with easy internet access in finding information during a pandemic helping students find and gather information. it was stated that with mobile learning students had the flexibility of place. However, the obstacle to mobile learning in distance learning is students cannot directly understand the material presented by the lecturer. Apart from that, students also find it difficult to understand the material as a result of the poor quality of the unstable internet. Conclusion: There are some students who have obstacles during mobile-based learning. The obstacles that are often faced by students are network constraints that are sometimes less supportive when the teaching and learning process takes place. With this mobile-based learning, students can access smooth communication information without being constrained by place, time, and understanding of the material that can be accessed by students independently. Originality: In this study found out the students’ perception and the obstacles used PJJ or distance learning with use mobile technology in learning process.

Abstract

Background: While discussing a song's lyrics, the ability of the music to convey emotion immediately comes to mind. Usually, a song's lyrics give an account of the feelings or thoughts that go into it. Inspirational lyrics are good lyrics. Whether a song has an impact on the listener's ears depends on the phrases that make up the song. Rahim (2019) asserts that a word, expression, or sign that refers to or represents something and can be described in other words constitutes the meaning of music lyrics. Methodology: Research that is descriptive and frequently uses analysis is called qualitative research. According to Creswell (2014), the research design employed in this study is qualitative research. This is because the purpose of the research is to determine the meaning behind the lyrics of a song by Demi Lovato. Findings: The findings in this study are to answer the researcher's questions, the researcher listens or reads the song lyrics thoroughly and the data results are taken from the process of analyzing the moral message in the album "Let it go".

Abstract

Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) is a new approach to language learning and teaching activities that can improve effectiveness, flexibility, and comfort in language learning by allowing the sending and receiving of learning materials, information, and instructions via mobile phone. The objectives of the researchers are to find out the teacher and students' perspectives toward the use of MALL (Mobile Assisted Language Learning) in English learning at SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research and a phenomenology approach. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri 5 Samarinda in class XII multimedia. With a purposive sampling method, the researcher chose 20 students and 1 English teacher. Collecting data in this study used interview techniques to find out the perspectives of teachers and students on the use of MALL in English learning activities. The results of the study showed a positive response from the perspectives expressed by teachers and students towards the use of MALL in learning English, where students felt that the MALL helped and made it easier for them to learn English. Furthermore, the teacher said that the existence of a mall helps teachers provide more varied learning

Abstract

This research seeks for analyze the effectiveness out of using Ted talks videos to improve students' speaking skills. Thirty-two high school students participated in this study. Data were collected using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. In order to achieve aim of this learning, pre-test and post-test were conducted. From extracted data, research found that students' perception of using Ted Talking Videos to improve their public speaking skills was that students responded positively to the author's teaching style. Furthermore, the data indicated that the research used different teaching methods to achieve objective teaching and tried to find strategies based on student needs in different ways. consequently, it was concluded that with the teacher using a tool to support learning to speak, namely Ted talk can help develop students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

AbstractBackground:A language is a tool for communication in this world used by humans to communicate with each other, without language, people get a problem when they want to communicate and a desire to socialize with people. The social functions of communication are explained by the speech function Apparently, speaking has a variety of functions. Many kinds of different speech functions, including phatic, poetic, metalinguistic, expressive, directive, and referential. Speech that people make serves a variety of purposes. This study aims to analyze the kinds of speech functions that are used in Alice In Wonderland Movie.Methodology: The researcher used a design for content analysis. The characters shown in the film "Alice In Wonderland" Movie is the focus of this investigation. The study's focus was on the declarative and interrogative language employed by the movie's characters. A checklist served as the study's main tool.Findings: In this study, the researcher found there are 111 speech functions used by the characters in Alice in Wonderland movie script. The researcher found there are five types of speech functions, 19 expressive speech functions, 39 directives speech functions, 34 referential speech functions, 7 poetic speech functions, and 12 phatic speech functions.Conclusion: In this research the researcher concludes, the referential speech function is the most used type of speech function by the actors in Alice in Wonderland movie because there are 39 directive speech functions found in this movie and the lowest types of speech functions used by the characters is poetic speech function where the researcher found there is only 7 poetic speech function.Originality: This research can used for references and help students or readers to understand deeper the speech function and and know hot utilize them
