Abstract

Background. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that imposes significant burdens on health care and the socio-economic aspects of communities. Family involvement as primary caregivers is crucial for effective DM management through activities such as diet regulation, medication reminders, and blood sugar monitoring. The family's knowledge of including its definition, causes, symptoms, and management, is vital for patient recovery. Misunderstandings about care practices can lead to poor glycemic control and hasten complications, primarily due to inadequate education and limited access to primary care. The purpose of this study was to determine family knowledge about care for patients with Diabetes Mellitus. Research Method. The research design used in this study was descriptive quantitative, with one variable, namely family knowledge about care for patients with diabetes mellitus. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 24 people. The study was conducted from March 2, 2025, to March 22, 2025, in the Trenggalek Community Health Center work area, in Sambirejo Village. Findings. The results showed that family knowledge about care for DM patients in the Trenggalek Community Health Center work area in 2025, most (63%, 15 respondents) had good knowledge. Conclusion. Family knowledge about care for patients with diabetes mellitus, namely by strengthening family education programs at the community health center level, developing educational materials that are easy to understand, and practical coaching programs for the use of glucometers.

Abstract

Background. The availability of effective drug regimens of Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) poses a global health challenge. Traditional first-line therapies-isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol-remain the cornerstone of TB management due to their accessibility and documented cure rates exceeding 85%. Nevertheless, limitations such as variable drug metabolism, patient non-adherence, and the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains have prompted evaluation of newer treatment combinations to optimize efficacy, safety, and duration. The purpose was to compare the effectiveness of older first-line tuberculosis (TB) drug regimens with newer therapeutic regimens in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Research Method. This narrative review synthesizes findings from five peer-reviewed studies comparing the effectiveness and safety profiles of conventional and novel TB drug regimens. The review focused on regimen composition, treatment duration, bacteriological clearance, hepatotoxicity, and patient adherence outcomes. Findings. The inclusion of pyrazinamide in six-month regimens significantly accelerated bacterial clearance without increasing hepatic toxicity compared to traditional nine-month isoniazid–rifampicin regimens. Additionally, shorter rifampin-based regimens for latent TB demonstrated higher treatment completion rates and fewer adverse effects than isoniazid monotherapy. Emerging regimens, such as fluoroquinolone-based HRM therapies and the novel BPaL combination (bedaquiline, pretomanid, and linezolid), yielded comparable or improved outcomes, with BPaL achieving success rates up to 93% in drug-resistant TB cases. Conclusion. Current evidence supports the strategic adaptation of TB therapy to balance efficacy, tolerability, and treatment duration. Incorporating newer drug combinations, particularly for drug-resistant TB, enhances adherence and clinical outcomes, underscoring the need for individualized treatment protocols aligned with evolving resistance patterns and patient profiles.

Abstract

Background. Rapid technological advancements have made gadgets an essential part of students' daily lives. However, excessive gadget use can have negative impacts, particularly on sleep quality. This study aims to investigate the relationship between gadget use behavior and sleep quality among students from the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI), specifically those in the 2023 class. Research Method. The study employed a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach, involving 138 university students as a sample collected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the SAS-SV (Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version) questionnaire to measure gadget use behavior and the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) to assess sleep quality. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with the help of SPSS. Findings. The study's results showed that 84.1% of respondents exhibited negative gadget usage behavior, and 86.2% experienced poor sleep quality. A chi-square test showed a significant relationship between gadget usage behavior and sleep quality (p = 0.000). This study suggests that excessive gadget usage negatively impacts students' sleep quality. Conclusion. Managing gadget use wisely is crucial for improving the quality of sleep and overall health of students.

Abstract

Background. Stunting remains one of the most serious public health problems in Indonesia. This condition describes linear growth failure in children due to chronic malnutrition, especially during the first 1000 days of life (the first day of birth), which has a long-term impact on children's physical and cognitive development and future productivity. This study aims to identify various implementations of stunting prevention interventions. Research Method. Articles were searched using three databases: Web of Science, Google Scholar, and ProQuest. The inclusion criteria for this study were articles published within one year, from 2024 to 2025, with free access. The research method used in this study was a systematic review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Findings. it was found that stunting prevention in Indonesia is influenced by various multidimensional factors, including parenting, knowledge, behavior, and the social and economic conditions of the family. Conclusion. Based on the articles reviewed, Stunting prevention needs to be carried out through a holistic and intersectoral approach, including education, family empowerment, improving the nutritional quality of pregnant women, cadre support, and the use of technology and sustainable food policies.
