Abstract

This paper explores the connection between gender, genre, and work space through Bhojpuri work songs. These songs are an important cultural and social memory of the Bhojpuri society, representing the experiences, ideologies, and way of life of individuals. The performance of these songs is gendered, with men performing them in outside spaces and women performing them within households or in the fields. This gendering of performance spaces corresponds to the division of labour, with women assigned to household activities and men to activities in the outside world. The songs touch on various themes such as familial issues, fulfilling duties, complaints, celebration of relationships, accepting and hiding sexual desires, excitement and dedication while performing the labour; and even political issues. What distinguishes these songs is their coordination with the performance and with the work, which follows a specific beat and rhythm. They are nested performances that highlight the actions being performed. They follow a stylized pattern which is materialized and internalized through transgenerational memory, that are expressed through embodied enactment. Based on memory and embodied performances these work songs reject the surrogate bodies of the museumization and sustain themselves in an organic way.

Abstract

As a well-known poet, Rupi Kaur has written several poems which attract worldwide accolades. The present study explores several important aspects of her selected poems, such as feminism, humor, and irony. It was conducted qualitatively. In this case, the researchers acted to analyze and collected the data consecutively. The findings indicated that the concepts of feminism described in her poems tend to be more liberal and radical. The use of crude language to depict women as "male objects" plainly supports this notion. Furthermore, Kaur employs filthy language to prick the reader's conscience and make them aware of the societal critique offered in her poems. The element of Humor identified in the poems is used to portray the injustice of societal rules that restrict women. Despite showing poor grammatical aspects, such as the use of proper subject, the poem strives to vividly criticize the role of women, which is commonly valued solely on their physical looks, dismissing their worth and complexity as humans.

Abstract

The rise of citizen journalism has transformed the media landscape, posing significant challenges to traditional news objectivity. This study aims to investigate the impact of citizen journalism on news objectivity by exploring issues, challenges, and potential solutions. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative content analysis of citizen-generated news reports with quantitative surveys of professional journalists and citizen journalists. The data collection involved analyzing a sample of news stories from various online platforms and conducting interviews with key stakeholders. Results reveal that while citizen journalism democratizes information dissemination, it often struggles with issues of accuracy and bias, leading to concerns about objectivity. Challenges include the lack of formal training, editorial oversight, and the influence of personal or ideological agendas. However, the study also identifies potential solutions such as promoting media literacy, encouraging collaboration between professional and citizen journalists, and implementing fact-checking mechanisms. In conclusion, while citizen journalism contributes valuable perspectives and diversity to news reporting, addressing its challenges is crucial for maintaining journalistic standards. Ensuring objectivity in this evolving media environment requires a collaborative approach and the integration of rigorous verification processes.
