Journal of Language, Literature, Social and Cultural Studies (JLLSCS) is an international peer reviewed and open access journal in the studies of language, literature, social and culture. The aim is to publish conceptual and research articles that explore the application of any language studies, literature studies, social studies and cultural studies, including in teaching and the everyday experience of language in education. Its scope is international in that it welcomes articles from academics, researchers, graduate students and policy makers. All articles should be in English. Abstract

The community of the trans-gendered or the gender diverse or the gender nonbinary has been the cause of many debates in recent times over their claim of equal rights of existence in India. While several first world countries have taken or are in the course of taking adequate steps to ensure their inclusion among the general masses, India despite its long history of accommodation and tolerance has fallen behind. This is largely in lieu of the prevalent discourse classifying any form of sexuality and gender that does not conform to the heteronormative gender binary as unnatural and a product of westernisation. This paper endeavours to elucidate and scrutinize the Queer and specifically Trans elements embedded within Indian Mythologies, as manifested in the Veda, Purana, Dharma-Shastra, Kama-shastra, Natyashastra, and numerous other sacred texts. By doing so, it attempts to subvert the prevailing narrative that enforces their exclusion. In addition to that, it provides a comprehensive survey of gender fluidity as depicted in Indian mythologies and ancient texts, thereby illuminating the obscured heritage of progressive advancements in gender studies within the Indian context. Moreover, it underscores the contrived essence and artificial construct of the gender binary, while emphasizing the futility of steadfastly adhering to its purported "naturalness".

Abstract

The phenomenon of humour in every sphere of one's life has a vital role. This project involves the element of humour in EFL classes. The purpose to conduct this research is to investigate how much is the application of humor important, its role, and effectiveness in EFL classes. Mix method/ Qualitative and quantitative types of research have been used for the study. To collect the data, survey forms and questionnaires were used. For data analysis of the collected data, the application namely SPSS was used by the researchers. So the result shows that it is a good technique to apply the mechanism of humour in teaching, especially in foreign language classes.

Abstract

This research uses document review and literature review methods. The document review was carried out by analyzing official documents related to the Independent Curriculum, such as Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Regulation Number 34 of 2022 concerning National Standards for Junior High School Education and Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Number 35 of 2022 concerning National High School Education Standards. The literature review was carried out by analyzing previous research writings about the Independent Curriculum, student-centred learning, and independent learning. The results of the analysis show that the Independent Curriculum and independent learning are closely related. The Independent Curriculum is an effort to realize independent learning. This can be seen from several main characteristics of the Independent Curriculum, such as: (a Focus on essential material that can be studied in depth. (b) Providing freedom to teachers and schools in developing curriculum and learning. (c) Accommodating students' needs and interests. Centred learning on students is one of the strategies that can be used to implement the Merdeka Curriculum. Student-centred learning emphasizes the active role of students in the learning process. Students are not only objects of learning, but also learning subjects who have an important role in determining the direction of learning. Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum and independent learning requires a change in the learning paradigm. Teachers must shift from their role as transmitters of information to facilitators of learning. Teachers must be able to create a learning environment that supports students to learn actively and independently.

Abstract

Every teacher needs to develop their vocal skills through continual practice and voice quality improvement. Students will draw judgments and assumptions about the teacher's attitude toward them, as well as the knowledge and concepts that he or she is imparting, based on the tones of the teacher's voice. The purpose of this study was to explore students’ perception on teachers’ vocal quality in a classroom setting. With a qualitative research design, the current study employed an interpretative phenomenological analysis approach. The participants of the study are composed of 26 students (9 males) (17 females) under the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The collection of data was done through a face-to-face, semi-structured interview with audio recording. With the help of thematic analysis, the researchers come up with these themes: (1) the instructional tone or manner and emotional expression of the teachers; (2) teachers’ emphasis and motivation on teaching; (3) engagement and voice characteristics of teachers; (4) teachers’ effectiveness and students’ engagement in the classroom; (5) challenges faced by students; (6) comprehensibility and academic performance of students; and (7) learning and knowledge acquisition of students. The findings revealed that the vocal quality of teachers have an impact on how engaged their students are in the learning process, which in turn helps them achieve academically.

Abstract

The importance of factors in the educational environment is very important to build up a future career. Especially among children environmental interaction makes them learn behaviour of the society. The aim of the study is to show the benefits of cross-class interactions and co-ed education among children in Indian schools. A detailed and critical analysis of the factors responsible for the development of children's education is represented. This includes the reflection of cross-class interactions and co-ed education among the children. It also relates to theory for its practical implementation and gets the best outcome. The presentation of the factors responsible for cross-class interactions and co-ed education among children in Indian schools is collected from the primary source. This consists of a survey among 70 responders of the society. The collection of the information is represented and analyzed through the statistical analyzing tool SPSS. The extracted data by the statistical tool makes the presentation a major amount of responders' opinions based on the relativity of this analysis. It shows all the benefits of the factors implemented for cross-class interactions and co-ed education among the children in Indian schools.

Abstract

The transient or intermittent nature of Vygotskian regressions in the field of Second Language Development (SLD) has been relatively overlooked. To address this gap, the study employs a narrative literature review approach to enrich the theoretical and practical foundations of this concept. It proposes that they should be read in the context of the so-called living process development. By embracing this construct, the study introduces alternative theoretical insights, framing regressions as living-dramatic-dialectical occurrences, arising from the collision and interweaving of a wide range of opposing forces seen as events in variable proportions and intensities during moments of crisis.

Abstract

Crises facing a given society represent a milestone in its history as they distinguish social life in its natural form, and its form after the sudden imbalance the society was exposed to. Crises may be economic, social, political, cultural, health-related or medical. They afflict a certain sector with partial paralysis, or permanent breakdown, and each crisis has its victims that are directly affected thereby, or indirectly through its various consequences. In addition, each crisis has its exploiters and beneficiaries who gain benefit therefrom and wish for its permanence. The current study attempts to monitor and analyze the role of NGOs during the different crises the Egyptian society has been exposed to, as each crisis has its impacts in different aspects of life. Among those crises, which emerged recently, is COVID-19 Pandemic. Hence, the problem of the study is to identify the nature of this disease, and the material and social support provided by these institutions in an attempt to face the various impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, by conducting 30 interviews with NGOs founders, and their representatives within the city of Alexandria. The result has shown that these bodies sought to provide alternative sources of income for the groups that were directly affected by the crisis.

Abstract

The ancestors of the Santals are the largest ethnic community in India. Santali is their mother tongue, is origin from an Austro-Asiatic language family. Santali is the rich heritage of folk rhymes. In Santali folk literature, however, rhyme holds a place of equal importance to these other forms. The aims of the study mainly focused on Santali rhymes that were intimately related to the social and cultural life of the Santal community. In this view, to obtain a profile of the culture-related folklore, the study was done on the qualitative linguistic approach. The result showed that the theoretical perspective of cultural materialism, the argument of Santali folk rhyme is created in the Santali language based on orality laid the conservation of the Santal-socio-cultural system. Santali folk rhymes are set in the context of Santal tradition, culture, behavior, social status, and identity construction within the community.

Abstract

This paper delved into the intricate relationship between educational interventions and communication strategies in the context of fostering significant behaviour change. With a focus on comprehensive exploration, the investigation aimed to uncover the synergistic effects of these two key components in influencing individuals' behaviours positively. Through an extensive literature review, various educational interventions and communication strategies were identified, ranging from traditional didactic methods to innovative technology-driven approaches. The study explored how these interventions were strategically communicated to target audiences across diverse settings, including healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. The study underscores the pivotal role of effective communication strategies as a catalyst for enhancing the impact of educational interventions on behaviour change. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the interplay between these two components and offer valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to design and implement comprehensive behaviour change initiatives.

Abstract

This research article imparts new and current knowledge about the essential characteristics of the influence of social media especially Facebook, and YouTube on the English language learning and academic performance of BS English students. The questionnaire was used as a research instrument to collect the data from the sample students. The questionnaire was developed online using the Google drive option. The developed questionnaire was shared with sample students through WhatsApp, Email, and social media. The sample of this study was 64 students of the University of Lahore who were studying in the BS English program. A convenient sampling technique was used to collect data. The nature of this research was quantitative. The descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to the collected data to get the results. The analyzed data revealed the findings concerning grammatical and vocabulary problems, health issues, poor results, assignments, exams, and downloading of material relevant to English language structure and use. The researcher concluded that social media influences English language education permanently. Future researchers should use and implement large sample and broader area.
