Abstract

The cultural identity symbols that appear in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency have a uniqueness that is different from other districts. This research aims to find out in what ways the duck symbol is used by the people of Hulu Sungai Utara Regency and the meanings of the duck symbol. This research uses a qualitative method with an interpretative approach. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. This research is located in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results of this study indicate that the cultural identity symbols of the Hulu Sungai Utara Regency community are seen in five aspects: 1) The aspect of duck farming as one of the livelihoods of the people in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency; 2) The culinary aspect has baked boneless ducks; 3) The souvenir aspect has sugar cubes in the shape of ducks; 4) The ornament aspect is used as a city icon and is displayed in the welcome gate, as well as displayed in decorative lights; 5) The cultural arts aspect is displayed in the lyrics of a song entitled Amuntai Banuaku and in the sarigading ikat weaving motif. This duck statue is a medium for tourists from inside and outside the Hulu Sungai Utara Regency area. Judging from its embodiment, the duck statue has a meaning as a sign of the welfare of farmers in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency. With the presence of these symbols, it is recognized by the wider community culturally through the duck symbol. It is hoped that the Hulu Sungai Utara Regency government can make a book about the duck symbol so that people can find out what meaning is contained in the Duck symbol itself.

Abstract

Nowadays, the trend of buying used clothes or thrifting is popular among the people of Banjarmasin City. This research aims to find out the factors that influence the people of Banjarmasin City in buying used clothes, as well as how symbols (brands) affect the thrifting hunter's lifestyle when buying and using them. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis was done interactively through the process of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that the thrifting phenomenon affects consumption patterns in fulfilling people's lifestyles, which no longer consume based on utility but rather prioritise the signs or symbols attached to an item. Factors that influence the people of Banjarmasin City in consuming used clothing are: 1) individual factors, namely economy, self-existence, and thrifting as a hobby; 2) social factors, namely family and social status; and, 3) cultural factors, namely the influence of social media and idol artists. Analysed based on the theory of consumption society through the analysis of the social logic of consumption (Baudrillard, 2011), it is concluded that there is happiness, enjoyment and freedom for a thrifting hunter when buying and using second-hand clothes, or being able to fulfil lifestyle desires. Suggestions for the people of Banjarmasin City, especially for users of second-hand clothes, to be more selective in considering a decision in buying second-hand clothes. Buying because of a desire rather than a need that occurs continuously results in waste and inefficiency in buying an product.

Abstract

Pollution of the Kuin River has caused a decline in river water quality. This research aims to find out the behaviour of the community that causes pollution of the Kuin River, as well as to find out the efforts made in improving the river. The analysis of this research uses the theory of risk society and the theory of environmental ethics. This research uses a qualitative method. Data collection used observation, interview and documentation techniques. The research was conducted for 2 months, from December 2022 - January 2023. The research was conducted in North Kuin Village, North Banjarmasin District, Banjarmasin City. Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that the behaviour of the people of Kuin Utara Village in relation to the river is very diverse. These behaviours have become habits that are difficult to change. People understand that throwing rubbish into the river is a bad habit. The lack of cleaning facilities is also a reason for people to litter. In addition, the lack of government role is one of the factors, where the government's role in handling waste is still very limited compared to the level of waste volume generated every day. Community efforts in improving the river environment are carried out through tree planting activities. Mutual cooperation activities to clean up rubbish are also carried out to create a healthy and clean river environment. These efforts also contribute to the preservation of cultural and religious heritage tourism in Kuin Utara Village. If people do not have a healthy lifestyle, the environment will be polluted, so the role of the entire community is needed to create a clean and comfortable environment.

Abstract

Kuntau Banjar is an indigenous traditional martial art in the life of the people of South Kalimantan, whose existence is currently threatened by modernization that erodes local cultural values. This study aims to determine the reality of the Banjar kuntau martial art in Pemakuan Village, Sungai Tabuk Sub-district, Banjar Regency in the face of modernization. This research was analyzed using Talcott Parsons' functional structural theory. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data collection used observation, interview and documentation. The research was conducted from October 2022 to March 2023. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that the survival of the Banjar kuntau martial art in the era of modernization is threatened with extinction and loss of existence in the community. Currently, the martial art of kuntau is increasingly marginalized, less attractive to the younger generation which has an impact on the lack of regeneration. People, especially young people, even know less about kuntau martial arts today. This reality has led to the loss of values contained in the Banjar kuntau martial art, namely social values, moral values, and religious values. Therefore, the Banjar government and community, as well as other related parties, must to make strategic efforts to preserve and develop the kuntau martial art as one of the cultural identities of the Banjar tribe.

Abstract

The presence of an industry will always have an impact on society, both positive and negative impacts. The research aims to determine the impact of the presence of oil palm plantations on the socio-economic conditions of the Balanti Village community. The research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques used observation, interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed by means of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The theory used is the theory of social change according to Kingsley Davis (Soekanto, 2015). The research results show that the presence of oil palm plantations in Balanti Village has an impact on the socio-economic impact of the community. The presence of plantations has an impact on increasing income and permanent income. Before the establishment of oil palm plantations, the community's main job was as farmers and since the presence of oil palm plantations, the community has been able to improve their housing, and their level of education has increased. The presence of oil palm plantations does not have much influence on the social life of the community, for example, social interaction and the community culture of mutual cooperation have not disappeared but have changed, especially in terms of time. With so many people working on oil palm plantations, most community meetings are only held in the afternoon. It is hoped that companies will always make a big contribution in supporting the economic progress of village communities and it is hoped that the community will not ignore the habits that exist in the community.

Abstract

Women today must carry out their duties as housewives and must also work to help the family economy. This study aims to analyze the causes of the dual role of women in Anjir Serapat Village, and to determine the position of women who work in their families. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of field research. The research was conducted on female laborers at PT Kayu Lima Sejahtera in Anjir Serapat Tengah Village, East Kapuas District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that women work as laborers to help meet household needs, which has an impact on financial sufficiency and helps create household harmony. However, this does not always have a positive impact, but also has a negative impact on women because they have to feel exhausted due to having to do household chores. Family time is also reduced, which makes their children more independent and able to understand their parents' work, regardless of their young age. This research shows that the existing social construction in society about the role of a good wife only around the domestic can be broken. In the Anjir Serapat Village community, it is women who hold a more dominant public role.

Abstract

The agroforestry model has ecological values, where it is practiced by farmers in Tiwingan Baru Village, Banjar Regency. This research used qualitative methods, and a phenomenological research design. The research subjects were coffee farmers in Tiwingan Baru Village. The research data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that coffee farmers in Tiwingan Baru Village implemented agroforestry farming practices supported by ecological thinking, so as to maintain the sustainability of the forest ecosystem of Tiwingan Baru Village. The agroforestry model practiced by the community manifests the environmental ethics of ecofeminism, which prioritizes care and compassion for nature. In terms of the concept of sustainable development, the forest management practices are able to: 1) maintain forest cover and avoid agricultural commodities that are bad for the ecosystem, so that the threat of deforestation can be avoided; 2) become a stable source of income for the community because the coffee commodity cultivated is an important commodity and is sustainable to the next generation; and, 3) raise awareness of the importance of institutional formation that supports the socio-economic processes of the community. The model of forest management through coffee agroforestry implemented by the community in Tiwingan Baru Village needs to be protected and sustained through strategic policies and empowerment programs. Furthermore, it is important that the forest management model is replicated elsewhere as a model of equitable and sustainable forest management.

Abstract

The existence of SAR Rimba Laut as rescue volunteers equipped with qualified knowledge and skills is needed to minimise the occurrence of marine accidents, considering that the waters of Jember Regency have a high risk caused by several factors. This study aims to determine the construction of knowledge of rescue and evacuation of victims of marine accidents in the SAR Rimba Laut community in Payangan. This study used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The research subjects consisted of nine people who were divided into two categories, namely primary informants and secondary informants. The data collection process was carried out by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity techniques used triangulation techniques. While the data analysis technique uses an interactive model, which consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The process of knowledge production related to rescue and evacuation in Rimba Laut SAR is described through three important moments, namely externalisation, objectivation, and internalisation that run simultaneously. Externalisation is reflected in the knowledge production process of Rimba Laut SAR related to rescue and evacuation. In objectivation, SAR Rimba Laut begins to take on roles and immerse itself in humanitarian actions. The externalisation and objectivation phases are then absorbed and reinterpreted within each individual which is referred to as internalisation. It is important for the government to implement training and provide facilities related to the rescue and evacuation of victims of marine accidents.

Abstract

One of the ways taken to develop oneself is to get out of the comfort zone by studying outside the city of birth or migrating, but this faces challenges in interacting because it finds a different situation from life in the place of origin. The purpose of the research is to find out the socioconstruction of migrant students according to Peter L. Berger's view. This research uses a qualitative approach with the research subjects being overseas students in the city of Yogyakarta. Data collection methods through observation, interviews and documentation. According to Peter L. Berger, reality is born along with knowledge, this happens due to the real social construction in human daily life. There are three stages of social construction according to Peter L. Berger, namely Externalization, Objectivation and Internalization. In the process of externalization, overseas students try to interpret and adapt to the language, customs and habits of the people of Yogyakarta in accordance with the stock of knowledge that exists in themselves. In this process, it appears that there are some students who have difficulty adjusting to the sociocultural environment in Yogyakarta. At the objectivation stage, overseas students try to understand and absorb the language, customs and habits of the people of Yogyakarta by discussing, forming study groups or cultural organizations that involve people from various backgrounds so that new knowledge and understanding of the life and habits of the people of Yogyakarta emerge. And this internalization process over time, the knowledge values that already exist in each overseas student from the results of objectivation are able to be manifested in actions, language, or expressions, so that overseas students are able to interact with the socio-cultural world of Yogyakarta. Further research needs to be done to explore the problems experienced by overseas students and how to overcome them from various perspectives.

Abstract

The development of Kediri Airport is a national strategic project built with the Government and Business Entity Cooperation (GBEC) scheme, the implementation of which is carried out by PT Gudang Garam through its subsidiary, PT Surya Dhoho Investama. This research analyses the problems related to land acquisition for the construction of Dhoho Kediri Airport in Grogol District, Kediri Regency using Michel Foucault's power relations theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. This research took place from April 2021 to December 2023. This research found that there are at least 4 parties involved in the land acquisition process, namely: the village and sub-district governments of Grogol, PT Gudang Garam, Tbk, the Kediri District Land Agency and also the people of Grogol Village. The land acquisition process shows that there are discourses from various parties circulating. The actors involved compete with each other to legitimise the existing power. This is in line with Michele Foucault's theory of power relations that power is a dimension of relations. Where relations and power cannot be separated from one another. In the process, 17 families in Grogol Village made demands to the buyer, PT Gudang Garam, through the Kediri District Court. However, the final solution was only a nominal increase in compensation that was not too significant. This happened because of the power relations involved in the land acquisition process. The discourse from the government that the development is useful for the public interest is considered the most efficient. It is very important that in the process of land acquisition for the public interest, the government or the buyer pays more attention to the affected community.
