Abstract

The pre-election conflict became a post-presidential political dispute having not subsided, starting with Jokowi’s intervention in the Constitutional Court decision number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 which qualified Gibran to be Prabowo’s vice president. As a result, communication between political figures became deadlocked, and involved President Prabowo directly and even the Indonesian people through the media. No scholarly writing has attempted to break this communication deadlock through the perspective of hadith. This article seeks to reveal the credibility of hadith through its universal and specific messages, namely that hadith has the power and capability to be trusted, and can be used as a normative and practical guide to break the deadlock between the conflicting parties, by outlining the origins of the post-election conflict until the emergence of its effects specifically, because existing research has not revealed it. To analyze the communication in question, this study uses political communication theory with the content analysis method, namely analyzing the text and content of hadith and the communication of the conflicting parties and then examining the relevance of both. With the identified hadith interpretation strategy, this study shows that hadith has credibility that can normalize political disputes between political figures, among the people, and the people with the government involving the media. Some hadith credibly have universal value, and specific messages become principles and formulas needing to be implemented immediately. The hadith in question include: (1) hadith as a principle for conflicting political figures and the people; (2), specific hadith for conflicting political figures; (3) specific hadith for the people; pros and cons and especially the media; and (4), specific hadith for leaders who can soften the hearts of the people.

Abstract

Previous studies on Quraish Shihab’s concept of nāsikh-mansūkh have largely examined its theoretical formulation or application in Tafsir al-Mishbah, leaving its operation in the concise Tafsir al-Lubāb insufficiently examined. This study analyzes Quraish Shihab’s conceptualization and application of nāsikh-mansūkh in Tafsir al-Lubāb and evaluates the consistency between his theoretical framework and exegetical practice. Using qualitative library research, the study employs content analysis and a descriptive-analytical approach to examine twenty themes identified through al-Suyūṭī’s classification of nāsikh-mansūkh, supported by literary triangulation with classical and contemporary sources. The findings show that Shihab does not reduce nāsikh-mansūkh to the total abrogation of previous rulings. Instead, its application in al-Lubāb operates through six interpretive patterns: legal refinement and affirmation, al-tadarruj (gradual legislation), situational law, bayān wa tafṣīl (explanation and specification), takhfīf (legal relief), and legal restriction or restructuring. The analysis also identifies limited inconsistencies between Shihab’s emphasis on al-tadarruj and its application in several cases, shaped by the concise and practical character of al-Lubāb, Indonesia’s plural socio-political context, and his contextual hermeneutical orientation. Scientifically, this study contributes a systematic typology of nāsikh-mansūkh in Tafsir al-Lubāb and demonstrates how classical Qur’anic sciences are negotiated with contemporary interpretive needs.

Abstract

This paper aims to formulate the epistemology of social construction by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann as a methodological basis for the study of the Living Qur’an. The study of the Living Qur’an having developed in the form of empirical-descriptive studies of community religious practices still faces limitations in its epistemological foundation and systematic methodological framework. On the other hand, Berger–Luckmann’s social construction theory offers a conceptual tool explaining that social reality, including religious reality, is formed through a dialectical process of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Using a philosophical-sociological approach and conceptual analysis, this paper examines the structure of the epistemology of social construction and its relevance to the study of the Living Qur’an. The study’s findings indicate that the practice of the Living Qur’an can be understood as a form of social construction of the sacred text of the Qur’an not only interpreted textually, but also presented in social reality through a process of religious cosmization that provides sacred legitimacy to these practices. These findings confirm that the epistemology of social construction is not only theoretically relevant but can also serve as a methodological basis for explaining the relationship between text, meaning, and practice in the study of the Living Qur’an. This paper contributes to strengthening the epistemological foundation of the study of the Living Qur’an by offering an integrative methodological framework between the sociology of knowledge and Qur’anic studies, thus opening up opportunities for the development of more analytical and reflective studies of the reality of Muslim religiosity.

Abstract

This study would find out how the classical doctrine of jihad in QS. Al-Hajj [22]:39–41, according to al-Nasafi’s perspective, can be methodologically integrated by reinterpreting maqāṣid al-syarīʿah by referring to the thought of Yusuf al-Qardhawi (1926–2022 A.D./1444 H), thus resulting in a juridical-theological framework positioning defensive jihad as an instrument for restoring religious freedom and civil rights. This study answered this through comparative interpretation (muqaran), by tracing the relationship between the two textual reasons for the ability (ibāhah) of qitāl in al-Nasafi (461–537 H) in al-Taysir fi al-Tafsir, the restoration of Muhajirin civil rights and protection from military aggression as a form of protection of religious freedom with the operationalization of both into one coherent category through the framework of maqāṣidī al-Qardhawi in Fiqh al-Jihad (2009). This study contributed by offering a comparative interpretive model bridging classical normative affirmations (taʿrif al-minnah) with contemporary operational frameworks-maqāṣidī, as well as being a theoretical foothold for human rights discourse in the study of the interpretation of qitāl verses.

Abstract

The Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) brings together two orientations not always aligning: piety, emphasizing devotion to the Qur’an, and competition, entailing public evaluation and recognition. This tension is particularly evident in the organization of the MTQ in Kerinci Regency, where achievement is understood not only as an individual accomplishment but also as a source of regional prestige. This article examines how actors involved in the MTQ understand, justify, and negotiate the relationship between piety and competition. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with LPTQ administrators, coaches, participants, religious leaders, and local government representatives, complemented by observation and document analysis. The findings show that the actors do not perceive piety and competition as mutually exclusive orientations. Rather, they develop a form of normative reasoning that positions competition as a wasilah (means) for attaining religious goals (ghayah), evaluates achievement in terms of maslahah and collective benefit, and treats intentions (niyyah) as both a moral orientation and a boundary for competitive achievement. Based on these findings, the article proposes the concept of Fiqh of Religious Competition to explain the pattern of normative reasoning through which competitive practices can continue to be understood as part of religious conduct. The concept contributes to contemporary Islamic studies by demonstrating how fiqh reasoning operates contextually to sustain the relationship between piety, performance, and competition in religious life in Indonesia.
