Abstract

This research aims to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model which is integrated with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach and the TaRL (Teaching at The Right Level) approach. This research is a classroom action research with the subject of students in class IX-7 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 29 students. The research method used is PTK (Classroom Action Research) which in this case occurs in two cycles, with cycle I consisting of 1 meeting and cycle II consisting of 1 meeting. Each cycle is carried out with a focus on learning models and the ability to understand mathematical concepts. Based on the results obtained from the second cycle, there was an increase compared to the first cycle with the difference in the highest score in the first cycle being 9 students and in the second cycle being 16 students, the average score was 8 students while in the second cycle there were 10 students and The lowest score experienced a decrease, namely in cycle I there were 12 students while in cycle II there were 3 students. So the difference in the percentage of high scores in cycle I and cycle II is 27%. This happened by making improvement efforts by integrating the CRT approach and the TaRL approach which resulted in improvements in the observation aspect.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) is based on the low learning outcomes in mathematics. The purpose of this CAR is to determine the improvement in learning outcomes in polynomial polynomial material. By implementing the Problem Based Learning Model with the help of interactive wordwall media, it can be a solution to improve student learning outcomes. This research is a classroom action research with the Kemmis and Taggart model research design and is carried out in two cycles. The research procedures used include planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research data were taken from the learning outcomes of class XI Biosfer students of SMA Negeri 2 Medan. The method used observation and tests Showing the percentage of completeness before and after the application of the approach, namely from 36.1% in the pre-cycle stage, increasing to 58% in cycle II. In addition, indicators of research success were also achieved, which included the average value of students reaching KKM. Increasing active participation of students, and achieving the percentage of completeness of students' mathematics learning outcomes of at least 75%.

Abstract

Mathematics education at SMA Negeri 2 Medan faces significant challenges due to the low learning outcomes of students, particularly in exponent material. This issue is influenced by students' low interest in mathematics, which is often perceived as difficult and unengaging. Teachers at the school also struggle to implement teaching methods that actively engage students in the learning process. These challenges highlight the need for innovation in teaching methods, such as implementing digital technology-based formative assessments. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using Quizizz-based formative assessment to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of class X.3 students on exponent material. The study employs Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observations and analyzed using gain scores to measure improvements between cycles. The results show that using Quizizz-based formative assessment significantly enhanced students' learning outcomes, with average scores increasing from 74.18 in Cycle I to 89.40 in Cycle II, and a gain score of 0.36 indicating moderate improvement. Additionally, the use of Quizizz improved student participation and motivation. Thus, Quizizz-based formative assessment is proven to be effective in enhancing mathematics learning outcomes and is recommended for application in other classrooms as an innovative teaching strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the gross motor skills of children aged 4-5 years at RA Miftahul Hidayah through ball games and catching activities. Gross motor skills are a crucial aspect of child development and include basic physical abilities such as hand-eye coordination, balance, and physical strength. This research employs Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and Taggart cycle model. The findings show that after participating in ball-catching activities, the children's gross motor skills significantly improved, with a success rate of 75% in the second cycle. Although these results indicate that ball-catching is an effective strategy for developing children's gross motor skills, challenges remain, including differences in the children's initial abilities and the need for adjustments in teaching methods.

Abstract

This research examines the phenomenon of fishermen's children dropping out of school in the southern coastal area of Jember Regency, East Java, from the perspective of cultural anthropology. The study aims to uncover the social, economic and cultural factors that influence the high dropout rate among fisher children, as well as its impact on the dynamics of coastal communities. Using ethnographic methods, the study collected data through participant observation, in-depth interviews and document analysis over a period of one year. The main findings show that economic factors, such as poverty and the need to help the family economy, are the dominant causes of school dropout. However, cultural factors such as the community's perception of education, the tradition of fishing from an early age, and the lack of highly educated role models also play a significant role. This study also reveals the impact of dropping out of school on the sustainability of the fishing profession, social mobility, and community adaptation patterns to environmental and economic changes. The results of this study provide new insights into the complexity of education issues in coastal communities and highlight the importance of a holistic approach in formulating education policies that are sensitive to the local socio-cultural context. The implications of this study can serve as a foundation for the development of more effective intervention programmes to increase school participation and retention among fisher children, and promote sustainable development.
