Abstract

This study aims to implement differentiated learning based on students' learning styles with the Problem Based Learning learning model as a step to meet the needs of diverse learning styles of students in the classroom. Qualitative descriptive research with the Triangulation method was used in this study. Qualitative descriptive research is used to provide an overview of the conditions at the research location so that people can see and understand the research environment. A total of 28 students of class V B SD N Palebon 01 were used as subjects of this study. The source of data collection is based on interviews, observations, and learning style questionnaires. Based on the learning style questionnaire for class V B, it is known that there are 36% of students in class V B who have an auditory learning style and 32% of students with visual and kinesthetic learning styles. The Problem Based Learning learning model includes five syntaxes, namely, Problem orientation, organizing students, guiding individual or group investigations, developing and presenting work results, and evaluating the problem-solving process. In the process of differentiated learning based on learning styles with the problem based learning model, the results showed that there was good enthusiasm in the learning process. Different activities for students in each learning style group are aimed at fulfilling the diversity of students' learning needs. Students are taught to learn in a way that suits their learning style, so that they can explore the material they are studying in their own way and make learning more meaningful. From the results of the research and discussion, namely the use of the Problem Based Learning learning model for differentiated learning based on learning styles in class V B SD Negeri Palebon 01 in an effort to fulfill the diversity of student needs can have a positive impact on student learning. Through various teaching and learning activities that are adjusted to the competencies of each student, students appear enthusiastic in learning

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of class XI Biosfer students from SMA Negeri 2 Medan through the application of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on polynomial materials. The research consists of pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II. Each cycle consists of several stages, namely, planning, implementation, observation, evaluation, and reflection, which are conducted on 36 class XI Biosfer students in the 2024/2025 academic year. The TaRL approach with the PBL learning model was applied during Cycles I and II, each consisting of two meetings. Data collection at the pre-cycle stage was carried out through cognitive diagnostic assessments and interviews with mathematics teachers. In Cycles I and II, measurements are carried out through cognitive tests at the end of each cycle. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the average value and percentage of learning outcome completion. In the pre-cycle stage, the average value and percentage of completion were 60 (36.1%), which then increased in cycle I to 72.5 (61.1%) and further increased in cycle II to 86.1 (80.5%). This finding confirms that the application of the TaRL approach with the PBL learning model can effectively improve mathematics learning outcomes in students. Abstract

This study is motivated by the low motivation and conceptual understanding among the eighth-grade students at UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan. The existing teaching methods, which do not address the students' needs or sufficiently motivate them, have led to a poor grasp of mathematical concepts, particularly in exponentiation. The "Teaching at the Right Level" (TaRL) approach, which is not confined to grade levels, can accommodate various student characteristics and enhance both motivation and conceptual understanding. Conducted over two cycles, this study aims to improve motivation and understanding of exponentiation concepts. Motivation data were collected through questionnaires, while understanding of the concepts was assessed via written tests, with both types of data analyzed quantitatively. The findings reveal an increase in motivation from 70.95% in Cycle I to 77.9% in Cycle II, and an improvement in understanding of exponentiation concepts from 80.63% in Cycle I to 86.9% in Cycle II.
