Abstract

Effective agricultural land management plays a crucial role in improving crop production and farmers' welfare. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting agricultural productivity in Waimital Village, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. The research method employed a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis to measure the relationship between land management variables and agricultural yield. The findings indicate that the use of organic fertilizers, efficient irrigation systems, and crop rotation positively impact harvest outcomes. Furthermore, limited access to technology and agricultural extension services remain significant challenges for farmers in increasing productivity. Therefore, government and academic interventions are required to accelerate the adoption of modern agricultural technologies. This study concludes that optimizing land management can enhance food security and farmers' well-being in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Sopi production in Hatusua Village is a traditional economic activity that contributes significantly to household income. This study aims to evaluate the contribution of sopi enterprises to family income and assess their viability using a descriptive quantitative approach. The sample consisted of ten sopi farmers selected through total sampling, with data collected via observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis employed the Benefit-Cost Ratio (B/C Ratio) method. The findings revealed that the average weekly income of farmers reached IDR 1,200,000, yet all respondents recorded B/C values below 1, indicating that the enterprise is not financially viable. The main contributing factors include high fuel costs, reliance on manual tools, and limited market access. While sopi holds strong economic and cultural potential, strategic improvements through training, appropriate technology adoption, product legalization.

Abstract

Soil conservation is an essential effort to maintain the sustainability of natural resources, particularly in island regions vulnerable to land degradation. The shifting cultivation practice in Olilit Timur Village represents local wisdom that sustains soil fertility through land rotation and natural vegetation use. This study aims to identify and analyze the community’s role in soil conservation based on local wisdom. A descriptive qualitative method was applied, using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, involving 10 respondents. The findings reveal that shifting cultivation remains effective in maintaining land productivity, reducing erosion risks, and fostering a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The system also reflects cultural and spiritual values that regulate land management patterns. This study concludes that such local practices can serve as a foundation for sustainable conservation strategies relevant to island communities. The implications highlight the importance of preserving local wisdom through participatory policies, and recommend integrating traditional practices with modern approaches to strengthen future food security and environmental sustainability

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low student engagement in Geography learning at SMA Negeri 13 Buru Selatan, Kecamatan Kepala Madan. The aim was to determine the extent to which learning interest influences students’ academic achievement. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto method. The sample consisted of 30 students from grades X and XI, selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included questionnaires on learning interest and learning outcomes, analyzed using simple regression, Pearson correlation, t-test, and ANOVA. Findings revealed that learning interest was categorized as moderate to high with an average score of 47.7 out of 55. Students’ learning outcomes were also considered good with an average score of 39.37 out of 45. Regression analysis yielded the equation Y = 23.722 + 0.338X with a significance value of 0.046 (<0.05), indicating a significant influence of learning interest on achievement. These results highlight the importance of interactive and contextual teaching strategies that enhance participation, attention, and curiosity. The implication is that teachers should implement engaging methods, schools need to provide supportive learning environments, and students are encouraged to strengthen their intrinsic motivation to achieve optimal outcomes

Abstract

The availability of natural resources such as sand and gravel plays a crucial role in supporting rural infrastructure development. However, their use often raises a dilemma between construction needs and environmental sustainability. This study aims to describe the utilization process of sand and gravel in Nusarua Village, Fena-Fafan District, South Buru Regency, and to examine its impact on the community’s social life and environment. A qualitative field research method was applied, involving observation, interviews, and documentation with both mining participants and affected villagers. The findings indicate that sand and gravel extraction provides significant economic benefits by increasing household income and supplying essential materials for housing and village infrastructure. On the other hand, it causes negative impacts such as environmental degradation, landslide risks, vegetation loss, and threats to community safety. These results highlight the necessity for wiser natural resource management through village government oversight and community awareness. The study recommends adopting sustainable utilization strategies so that development can continue without sacrificing environmental balance

Abstract

Land use changes in coastal areas are increasingly complex due to population growth, economic activities, and tourism development. This condition is evident in Liang Beach, Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency, where land conversion pressures occur between natural ecosystems and development needs. This study aims to identify and analyze land use change dynamics during 2021–2024. The research employed a quantitative-descriptive approach using Google Earth Pro satellite imagery combined with field observations at ten coordinate points. The findings reveal a decline in natural vegetation from 45% to 30%, an increase in economic-use land from 15% to 25%, and the expansion of tourism areas from 10% to 20%. Water bodies and open land decreased by 2–3%. These results highlight a spatial shift from ecological to economic functions, implying higher abrasion risks, biodiversity loss, and potential stakeholder conflicts. The study concludes that integrated coastal management is crucial, requiring policy alignment, mapping technology, and community involvement to sustain ecological and socio-economic balance. It recommends adopting environmentally adaptive spatial planning and sustainable tourism strategies for Liang Beach

Abstract

Waste problems in coastal areas are a serious issue affecting environmental quality and ecosystem sustainability. This study aims to identify and map waste distribution patterns by type along the coastal area of Rumah Tiga Village, Teluk Ambon District, Ambon City. The research employed a field survey with a line transect approach, supported by GPS-based spatial recording and GIS analysis. The findings reveal that waste distribution is strongly influenced by community activities, particularly around markets and residential zones, with inorganic waste dominating—soft plastics accounting for 33% and hard plastics for 17%. Meanwhile, open coastal areas were mainly filled with natural debris such as wood and leaves. These results confirm that most coastal waste originates from land-based sources rather than marine input. This research contributes essential spatial evidence for formulating more effective waste management policies, raising public awareness, and encouraging multi-stakeholder engagement in preserving coastal ecosystems. Recommendations emphasize strengthening local regulations, implementing community-based management systems, and establishing continuous educational programs at the community level

Abstract

Local wisdom is inherited knowledge that guides communities in managing natural resources, including agricultural land. This study aims to identify forms of local wisdom practiced by the people of Tala Village, Amalatu District, West Seram Regency, in managing corn land as a food source and household economic support. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving 10 informants purposively selected from a population of 20. The findings reveal that the community applies traditional management strategies from land preparation, seed selection, planting, maintenance, to harvesting and distribution. These practices maintain soil fertility through simple methods such as burning weeds for natural fertilizer, determining planting time based on local climate, and utilizing corn cobs as alternative fuel. The study concludes that these practices not only enhance food security and community welfare but also reflect ecological adaptation values relevant to sustainable development. The implications highlight the need for regional policy support in preserving local wisdom and recommend integrating traditional knowledge with modern agricultural technology to strengthen productivity and food resilience
