Abstract

The MSME empowerment program initiated by the Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI) of South Sumatra analyzes the impact of increasing micro-enterprise income and its impact on beneficiary mustahik (the beneficiaries). This program provides business capital assistance and carts as an empowerment effort for mustahik who own micro-enterprises. Using qualitative descriptive research methods, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation with informants from the beneficiary community. The results showed that before receiving assistance, micro-enterprises faced significant obstacles related to limited capital, including unsuitable carts. After participating in the IZI South Sumatra MSME program, beneficiaries were able to run their businesses better, overcome capital shortages, and directly impacted income increases.

Abstract

The integration of Zakat and Waqf represents a potent and strategic paradigm shift in Islamic social finance, moving beyond conventional philanthropic models to establish a robust framework for sustainable community development. Zakat, as an obligatory wealth purification and redistribution mechanism, addresses immediate poverty and ensures social justice. Conversely, Waqf, particularly in its productive and cash forms, functions as a perpetual endowment, generating long-term, sustainable assets for public benefit . The synergistic combination of these two instruments Zakat providing working capital and immediate relief, and Waqf supplying the necessary infrastructure and long-term asset base—is crucial for transforming beneficiaries (mustahiq) into self-sufficient economic actors (muzakki). This integrated model is fundamentally aligned with the objectives of Maqasid al-Shariah and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in eradicating poverty (SDG 1) and promoting inclusive economic growth (SDG 8). This article proposes a comprehensive integrated model, detailing its conceptual framework, implementation strategies, and the necessary governance structure to optimize its impact on community welfare and economic resilience

Abstract

Good and transparent zakat management is crucial for building public trust, especially in DKI Jakarta, which has significant zakat collection potential. Good financial performance reflects professional governance and ensures that funds are properly distributed to those entitled to receive zakat. This study evaluates the financial performance of BAZNAS DKI Jakarta from 2021 to 2024, using indicators of effectiveness, efficiency, fund growth, and distribution activities. Data were taken from annual financial reports, and analysis was conducted using the non-profit organization's financial ratios. The results show that fund collection has consistently increased, with a good distribution ratio. The level of operational efficiency is also good, despite variations in management costs. This indicates that BAZNAS DKI Jakarta's financial performance is healthy and accountable. The study's conclusions emphasize the importance of strengthening the financial system, information transparency, and the use of digital technology to improve performance. It is recommended that further research expand the scope of study by comparing BAZNAS in other provinces or with non-governmental zakat institutions..

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between intellectual capital and the performance of Zakat Management Organizations (ZMO/OPZ), comparing BAZNAS, which is managed by the government, and LAZ, which is managed by private institutions. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between intellectual capital and the performance of Zakat Management Organizations (OPZ) in Indonesia during the period 2018 to 2022. Furthermore, the findings reveal differences in the relationship between intellectual capital and OPZ performance based on institutional ownership, namely between government-managed and privately managed OPZs. Private OPZs tend to demonstrate higher efficiency levels, particularly in managing human capital and capital employed, compared to government OPZs.
