Abstract

The low public awareness and understanding of renewable energy, particularly among younger generations, remains a challenge for accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of students at SMA Negeri 12 Bandar Lampung regarding renewable energy, while introducing the Energy Systems Engineering Program at ITERA as part of the transition solution. The method included planning, interactive dissemination, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. A total of 135 students participated in the activity, which utilized visual presentations and interactive quizzes (Quizziz). Evaluation results showed a significant increase in student understanding, with more than 93% showing improved post-test scores. These findings indicate that visual and interactive educational approaches are effective in improving energy literacy at the secondary education level. This activity also serves as a practical means of disseminating scientific knowledge from the Energy Systems Engineering field to the broader community.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has experienced rapid growth in the last decade. AI plays a significant role not only in the industrial and academic sectors but also in the social sphere. A popular trend among young people today is becoming a content creator on social media. This social media content creator also opens up vast business opportunities, whether in the form of personal branding, endorsements, or independent product and service promotions. Becoming a content creator is no longer limited to professionals, but has become an attractive option for the younger generation due to its flexibility and promising income potential. However, being a good content creator also requires basic knowledge that young people need to have to develop their creativity. Many challenges are faced in content creation, such as limited ideas, technical skills, and consistency in presenting interesting and valuable content. Through community service training conducted by the author, by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to assist content creation in various aspects of content production, from scriptwriting, graphic design, to editing. It is hoped that young people in the neighborhood can recognize and utilize AI technology to become creative, positive, and competitive content creators. This activity not only encourages self-expression and creativity, but also opens up new economic opportunities.

Abstract

Many students struggle with manually creating bibliographies for their academic papers, a crucial step to prevent plagiarism. The Mendeley application offers a solution by automatically generating reference lists, yet not all students are familiar with it. Therefore, an online training session was held via Zoom for the general student population. The goal was to equip them with practical knowledge and skills in using Mendeley, enabling them to manage references independently for various academic writings such as journals and theses. This training is expected to not only enhance individual competencies but also contribute to improving the quality of education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Anemia remains a nutritional problem, especially for adolescent girls. This is due to the fact that many girls ignore risk factors. Anemic adolescents may be less productive at work or perform poorly in school due to a lack of motivation and focus. This community service project aims to raise awareness among adolescent girls about anemia and its management by providing access to ajwa dates and acacia honey. The activity's methodology includes educating adolescent girls about anemia through leaflets, followed by a hemoglobin level check (pre-test), administering ajwa dates and acacia honey to adolescent girls with anemia at the Nurul Anwar Komba Sentani Islamic Boarding School, and re-checking their hemoglobin levels (post-test). Anemic adolescent girls who received ajwa dates and acacia honey every morning and evening for 14 days experienced increased hemoglobin levels as a result of this community service.

Abstract

Gantiwarno Village in Pekalongan, East Lampung, has significant biogas potential from cow dung. However, the utilization of cow dung is still not optimal, resulting in the surrounding environment being littered with cow dung. Furthermore, the availability of LPG is uncertain, causing its price to fluctuate. Therefore, ITERA Community Service team helped resolve this issue by installing a 4 m3 biogas reactor to convert cow dung into biogas. The stages of this Community Service activity began with a site survey, building relationships with partners, team preparation, construction of the biogas installation, monitoring and evaluation of activities, and the preparation of activity reports. The output of this community service activity was a biogas reactor unit and supporting components such as a biogas stove. Within 7-10 days, the biogas from the cow dung waste began to appear and was immediately used for household cooking needs. Visually, the flame in the biogas stove showed a blue color, indicating that the quality of biogas was not much different from the LPG gas used previously. This biogas reactor can be a renewable, environmentally friendly energy source, making it more energy independent. Furthermore, utilizing biogas can help reduce dependence on LPG, thus saving on weekly electricity needs.

Abstract

Elderly people are part of human development, a final stage. According to Law No. 13 of 1998 concerning Health, elderly people are defined as those who have reached the age of 60. At this age, physical and functional declines often occur, requiring assistance or explanations regarding the aging process. The number of elderly people in South Birobuli Village is 41 (13.2%). Five (33.3%) have hypertension and one (1.6%) has had a stroke. A survey of several elderly people revealed they have many questions about the causes of hypertension and how to manage it. The measures taken included education about hypertension, blood pressure checks, and exercise. Results: Of the 15 individuals with high blood pressure, 5 (33.3%) had high blood pressure. Counseling was provided to those with high blood pressure and recommendations for further examination at the Community Health Center (Puskesmas), and 10 participated in exercise.

Abstract

The utilization of social media in agricultural extension has emerged as a strategy deemed quite effective and efficient in disseminating information to farmers in the digital era. Social media offers easier, faster, and broader access to convey information related to agricultural technology, cultivation techniques, and the latest policies relevant to the agricultural sector. This community empowerment activity aims to encourage farmers to leverage social media to enhance their knowledge and skills. The activity employs lecture and training methods, carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results indicate that the community service activity, aimed at encouraging farmers to utilize social media to improve their knowledge and skills, has yielded positive outcomes for farmers. The development of farmers' awareness is a crucial initial step in motivating them to use social media as a productive tool. However, challenges such as limited internet access in some areas pose a major obstacle to maximizing social media utilization. Overall, social media holds the potential to be an efficient extension tool, but it also requires support from various parties, including the government, extension organizations, and the community, to maximize its effectiveness.

Abstract

A training programme was implemented for MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in Bontang City, with a focus on financial governance and bookkeeping systems. These enterprises, in their capacity as partners of BUMD (Regional-Owned Enterprises), were the beneficiaries of this initiative. The objective of the programme was twofold: firstly, to enhance business performance and sustainability; and secondly, to address deficiencies in financial governance and the absence of transparency, which was primarily attributable to conventional or non-existent transaction recording. The objective of this activity is to furnish MSMEs with a comprehension of the principles of sound financial administration and the capacity to implement a bookkeeping system in accordance with SAK EMKM. The implementation method involves the following: first, the identification of in-depth needs; second, the design of a comprehensive curriculum (comprising basic, advanced and specialised modules); and third, the development of concise, compact and relevant teaching materials with specific case studies. The training approach emphasises interaction and practical application through discussions, simulations, and case studies, delivered by experienced instructors. The training programme was found to have yielded substantial improvements in the participants' comprehension of fundamental financial concepts, the accounting cycle, and their practical skills in recording transactions and preparing basic financial statements. The participants' responses indicated a high level of satisfaction with the relevance of the materials and the effectiveness of the delivery methods. The initial impact is evident in the heightened awareness of the significance of record accuracy and sound financial governance, which serves as the basis for internal and external system enhancements. The potential long-term impacts of the initiative include enhanced accuracy of BUMD financial reports, operational efficiency, increased PAD contribution, and improved access to financing for partner MSMEs. The challenges that must be anticipated are limited resources, technology adoption, and the need for ongoing mentoring.

Abstract

Character education is a crucial aspect in shaping students’ personalities, especially at the high school level, where adolescents are in the phase of identity formation. One effective approach to strengthening character is by introducing the exemplary qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a universal role model. This community service program aimed to instill the values of the Prophet’s character in students through a counseling and educational session at SMA Negeri 15 Padang. The activity utilized a participatory and interactive counseling method, involving lectures, discussions, reflections, and role-play simulations. The session was attended by 824 students from grades X, XI, and XII, with an attendance rate of 97%. The results showed an increase in understanding of values such as honesty, responsibility, and empathy. Positive behavioral changes were also observed, including improved politeness, discipline, and active engagement in social interactions. Strong support from the school was evident, marked by the formation of Islamic study groups as a follow-up to the activity. Challenges faced included the large number of participants and limited time allocation, but these were overcome through appropriate delivery methods. This activity demonstrates that the exemplary character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is effective in strengthening students’ character and can serve as a model for Islamic value-based character education in other schools.

Abstract

This socialization aimed to increase participants' knowledge of driving safety. Participants who are students at Al Kamilah Foundation need to be equipped with knowledge related to driving safety because they are at high risk of experiencing road incidents due to negligence.  Youth health and safety are necessary to empower future generations as human resources. The service provided this time was a socialization that took place in a hybrid manner. The participants were students at the Al Kamilah Foundation, Serua Bojongsari, Depok. Socialization was also supported by tracking participants' understanding using pre- and post-test questionnaires. Based on this service, the service team has made efforts to increase participants' knowledge of driving safety.
