Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to improve the performance of UMKM Omah Varian Jahe in Dukuh Jumbleng, Desa Banyuanyar, Boyolali, by addressing production and marketing challenges. The identified issues include poor product quality (taste, color, and cleanliness) due to manual ginger cleaning, low product demand, and insufficient sales performance, with sales only reaching 60-70 units per month and low pricing. Other problems include inadequate packaging (clear standing pouch) and unattractive labels, limited marketing strategies, and a lack of understanding in price calculation. In response, the PKM team provided training on production cost calculations, product photography, social media management, and selling via online marketplaces. Additionally, a ginger washing and peeling machine was provided. As a result, the team successfully facilitated the procurement of packaging materials (plastic jars, bottles, and stickers), created a new Instagram account for marketing, and improved production cost calculation knowledge by more than 85%. Furthermore, 500 custom standing pouches were provided for the instant ginger powder product, which is currently in production. These initiatives are expected to enhance product quality, marketing, and sales performance, helping UMKM Omah Varian Jahe grow

Abstract

Clean water needed by the entire community is not evenly distributed across various regions in NTT, especially in Enoraen Village, East Amarasi District, Kupang Regency, which is a coastal area. Clean water can be provided in this area through solar thermal desalination. This community service aims to improve the congregation's ability to recognize clean water that is suitable for drinking, as well as to train the congregation to use and maintain desalination equipment to produce clean water. The methods used are lectures and training, as well as periodic guidance. This community service activity consists of education related to clean water and drinking water, training in the use and maintenance of desalination equipment, and assistance for approximately 6 months. The results of the activity showed an increase in the congregation's knowledge in recognizing the quality of clean water suitable for drinking. In addition, the congregation was able to use the desalination equipment, as demonstrated by an increase in the amount of water produced by the equipment after 7 days of use. Assistance in the use of solar thermal desalination equipment is still being provided, particularly to assess the congregation's ability to maintain the desalination equipment so that its use can help in the provision of clean water in the congregation.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the men’s fellowship of the Maranatha Oebufu congregation in utilizing waste biomass as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source. The main problems faced by the community were limited awareness of the potential of local biomass waste, such as goat manure and agricultural residues, and the lack of access to simple and applicable processing technologies. The activity was implemented using a participatory and empowerment-based approach through counselling, demonstrations, and hands-on training in producing bio-briquettes and related supporting equipment. Participants included members of the Service Support Unit (UPP), the Management Board (BP), and the men’s fellowship of Maranatha Oebufu congregation. The results showed a positive response and high level of participation from the community during the training process. Participants were able to produce bio-briquettes and operate simple equipment, including a pyrolysis drum, briquette mould, and briquette stove. Post-activity monitoring indicated that several households had begun independently producing and utilizing bio-briquettes made from palm shells and rice husks for cooking purposes. This activity demonstrates that participatory training in bio-briquette technology is effective in supporting household energy independence and community empowerment based on local resources.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major nutritional problem in Indonesia, particularly in East Nusa Tenggara Province, including Rote Ndao Regency, where prevalence rates remain above the World Health Organization threshold. Stunting prevention requires comprehensive strategies that extend beyond medical interventions by strengthening the role of families as primary caregivers. This community service activity aimed to enhance family capacity in stunting prevention through balanced nutrition socialization using a family empowerment approach. The program was conducted in Lobalain District, Rote Ndao Regency, in July 2025, involving 25 mothers with school-aged children and toddlers. The intervention consisted of nutrition education, interactive discussions, and practical simulations of preparing nutritious meals using local food resources. Program evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure knowledge improvement and observation of participants’ food processing skills. The results demonstrated a significant increase in maternal nutrition knowledge, with mean scores rising from 60.0 to 78.2 (p < 0.05). Participants also showed improved skills in processing local foods into nutritious products. These findings indicate that a family empowerment-based approach is effective in strengthening maternal knowledge and skills, contributing to sustainable stunting prevention efforts at the household level.
