Abstract

Banana (Musa paradisiaca) is one of the most important commodities for food security and local economy, particularly in Indonesia. However, banana productivity is threatened by several major biotic stress factors, including insect pests and fungal diseases. The present study was conducted in Karang Bendo, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, aiming to identify the presence and impact of major banana pests and diseases, namely Black Sigatoka disease. Field surveys were carried out using the Simple Random Sampling method, with observations on symptoms of infestation and infection on leaves, pseudostems, and corms. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA to determine infestation intensity. The results showed that Black Sigatoka (Pseudocercospora fijiensis) resulted in leaf spotting, reduced fruit shelf life, and increased control costs. Overall, these pests and diseases significantly affect banana growth, yield, and plantation longevity. Integrated pest and disease management strategies based on accurate field identification are required to reduce production losses and support sustainable banana cultivation.

Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important horticultural crop in Indonesia, but its productivity is often constrained by pests and diseases. Monitoring is carried out to identify pest and disease infestations, analyze attack patterns, and determine the factors influencing their distribution and intensity. This study aimed to identify the types of pests and diseases affecting chili plantations in Turi, Sleman, Yogyakarta, and to evaluate their incidence and intensity. The research was conducted in October 2025 using a diagonal sampling method at five observation points, with ten plants randomly selected per point. The results are expected to provide a basis for effective and sustainable pest and disease management to support chili productivity.

Abstract

Edamame, is a soybean originating from China, is widely cultivated as a vegetable plant and used as a snack. Edamame cultivation in West Kalimantan in alluvial soil has obstacles, namely the physical properties of hard and solid alluvial soil, soil biological properties that have poor microorganism activity. Efforts have been made to overcome these obstacles by using green compost and bamboo PGPR. The purpose of this study was to deteminethe interaction and effectiveness of green compost and bamboo PGPR in alluvial soil. The study was conducted in the city of Pontianak for ± 5 months. The study used a plot design divided into main factors consisting of 2 levels of bamboo PGPR, subplots consisting of 3 levels of green compost doses, namely k1 = 10 tons/ha, k2 = 20 tons/ha, k3 = 30 tons/ha so that 6 treatment combinations were produced that were repeated 4 times. The variables observed were the number of branches, dry weight, root volume, number of pods per plant, pod weight per plant. The results showed that there was no interaction between green compost and bamboo PGPR, the use of bamboo PGPR had an effect on the variables of root volume and pod weight, the percentage of seeded pods 2, the use of green compost had an effect on the percentage of edamame hollow pods in alluvial soil.
