The INSIDE journal provides discussions from various angles in various disciplines related to design, including interior design, architecture, spatial design, product design, furniture, visual communication design and other related fields. INSIDE emphasizes the internal factors that create and influence interiors, which can be understood and exhibited through the places people live in, the materiality of objects and the physical environment, as well as through specific methodologies and approaches to design practice. Interior ideas are discussed as perceived and practiced in this journal, and can be explored through theoretical debates, actual space design work, and empirical interior research. Articles covering various interior contexts, including but not limited to: home and urban interiors, personal and collective interiors, contemporary and historic interiors, global and indigenous interiors. This journal also offers a public forum for discussion of various interior places in a socio-cultural context

Abstract

The Financial and Development Supervisory Agency building is a government building that is spread across almost every region in Indonesia. This is based on its main function as an institution that supervises the planning and implementation of the use of state/regional assets. The spread of this institution in various regions means that the interior design of the building is adjusted to the conditions and culture of each region, one of which is North Kalimantan. Adapting the design to the culture of the North Kalimantan region was carried out by applying Dayak Taghol batik elements to the lobby area. This research uses qualitative methods with semiotic analysis with the final result being the interior design of the lobby area of ​​the North Kalimantan Financial and Development Supervisory Agency Building which emphasizes Dayak Taghol batik elements as a form of aesthetics, and also as one of the regional identities of North Kalimantan. Keywords: Interior Design; Culture; Dayak Taghol Motifs; Design; Building Gedung Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan merupakan sebuah gedung pemerintah yang tersebar hampir di setiap daerah di Indonesia. Hal ini di dasari pada fungsi utama nya sebagai lembaga yang melakukan pengawasan terhadap perencanaan dan pelaksanaan pemanfaatan aset negara/daerah. Tersebarnya lembaga ini di berbagai daerah membuat desain interior pada gedung mengalami penyesuaian dengan keadaan dan kebudayaan pada masing-masing daerah, salah satunya Kalimantan Utara. Penyesuaian desain dengan kultur dan kebudayaan pada daerah Kalimantan Utara dilakukan dengan cara mengaplikasikan unsur batik Dayak Taghol pada area lobby. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisa semiotika dengan hasil akhir yaitu desain interior area lobby Gedung Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan Kalimantan Utara yang mengedepankan unsur batik Dayak Taghol sebagai bentuk estetika, dan juga sebagai salah satu identitas daerah Kalimantan Utara.

Abstract

In order to achieve a unique holiday experience for users, cruise ship accommodation facilities try to give a strong impression through their interior appearance. The Genting Dream cruise ship, owned by Resort World Cruises, has the main goal of managing the rich cultural heritage of Asia into the space on board. Several areas of the ship incorporate the characteristics of Asian countries to reinforce the vision of the ship itself. One of them is applied to the typical Chinese food restaurant area - 'Silk Road & Cabaret'. by carrying 'ancient Shanghai' as the concept raised in it. This area is a restaurant that includes food service as well as cabaret entertainment with traditional Chinese cultural characteristics in it. Through a qualitative approach and case study research method, the results of identification and analysis related to the use of several natural motifs and Chinese character symbols that have special meanings are obtained so that they are placed on several interior elements according to the essence contained therein. These traditional Chinese elements have several good meanings related to luck, social status, wealth and prosperity, longevity, and happiness for their users.

Abstract

Bandara Hang Nadim Batam memiliki peran strategis dalam konektivitas udara Indonesia, terletak di wilayah Asia Tenggara dan menjadi gerbang penting untuk menghubungkan Pulau Batam dengan destinasi internasional. Namun, untuk memenuhi standar internasional dan meningkatkan pengalaman penumpang, diperlukan pembaruan pada desain interior bandara, khususnya di area check-in hall. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan komparatif untuk membandingkan teori desain interior modern dengan kondisi Bandara Hang Nadim saat ini. Penerapan interior yang sudah tua karena perkembangan terakhir di tahun 1995 sehingga memerlukan pembaruan. Diperlukan pendekatan modern yang lebih efisien dan fungsional untuk menciptakan lingkungan yang nyaman dan efisien bagi penumpang. Pembaruan ini akan berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas bandara dan pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia secara keseluruhan

Abstract

Hotels are accommodation facilities used for economic and tourism activities. There are various kinds of hotels with different themes and styles with their respective characteristics to attract guests. One of the things that can be highlighted from a hotel is the design. One of the things that can be used as an option is the addition of local cultural elements in the interior of the hotel. The function of adding local cultural elements to the hotel interior is to enrich the atmosphere in the hotel interior, besides adding local cultural elements can also be a means of conveying the culture where the hotel is located. In identifying this phenomenon, the Mercure Nexa Bandung hotel located on Jl. Supratman was chosen as a case study. The hotel was chosen because it was recently acquired by Accros Group in 2018 and made some new changes to its interior. The method used is descriptive analysis with identification and interpretation techniques of local cultural elements found in the interior design of Mercure Nexa Bandung hotel.

Abstract

The lobby is a crucial element in every office building, playing a significant role as the primary area for guest reception that first imparts an impression. Therefore, it's vital for the office lobby to reflect an ambiance that mirrors the identity and values of the institution. This study aims to explore the application of the Surosowan batik motif in the aesthetic elements of the lobby's interior to establish a strong identity for Banten culture. The main focus of the research is to enhance the office's identity through innovative use of materials, especially metals, implemented in the batik motif on the lobby's wall spaces. This is intended to create a balance of local cultural values in line with the vision and mission of the BPKP Banten Office. The research method employed is qualitative, focusing on the search and understanding of data relevant to the theories of Banten Culture, Surosowan Batik, and the Vision and Mission of the BPKP Banten Office as a solid foundation in designing creative solutions. The result of this study is the implementation of the Surosowan Batik motif in wall treatments using metal materials. The findings of this research can provide practical and creative guidelines in applying the Surosowan batik motif to the interior design of office lobbies, ultimately enriching the office space with a distinctive cultural identity.

Abstract

The fast food industry in Indonesia, especially D'Besto, faces challenges in creating furniture designs that support operational efficiency and work comfort in their outlets. This study aims to develop functional, efficient and aesthetic work and storage furniture designs according to D'Besto's specific needs. Through direct observation, interviews with users, and a literature review, this research identified several aspects that need improvement, including layout, use of color, product placement, and interactivity. Based on these findings, a new D'Besto booth design was formulated by considering visual design, ergonomics and marketing principles. The research results show that a more attractive, interactive and informative booth design can increase visitor engagement, build brand awareness and ultimately encourage sales conversions. It is hoped that these recommendations will help D'Besto optimize their offline marketing strategy and make a positive contribution to UMKM.

Abstract

The design of work and storage furniture is an important element in creating a pleasant shopping experience in a mall environment, especially for booths that provide coffee and bread menus such as Janji Jiwa. This research explores furniture design for the Janji Jiwa booth, with a focus on space efficiency, ergonomics and aesthetics that are in harmony with the characteristics of the mall. This design aims to maximize the function of the booth in a limited space while maintaining comfort and ease of access for staff and customers. Key aspects of the design include the selection of durable and easy-to-maintain materials, a layout that supports efficient workflow, and visual elements that reflect the Janji Jiwa brand identity. This design approach also pays attention to integration with mall elements, such as lighting and visitor circulation, to create a consistent and engaging experience. The results of this design are expected to improve booth operations and provide a satisfying and interesting experience for mall visitors, supporting business success and building customer loyalty.

Abstract

Bandung City has a very dynamic tourism potential and creative industry. In addition, its mild climate, beautiful scenery, and cultural heritage make it a favourite destination for tourists. Hotels are also an important part of cultural tourism in Bandung. The use of hotel interior visuals is not only aesthetics but also an educational element about local cultural heritage for tourists who stay or visit. This research aims to analyse the application of Parahyangan motifs in the interior design of hotels in Bandung City. Hotels in the city centre were chosen due to their strategic location and represent local cultural values in the interior design. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach and content analysis. Data were collected through a literature review, photo documentation of the interiors, and analysis of the motif elements used. The results show that Parahyangan motifs, such as Merak Ngibing, are widely used in city centre hotels to enhance aesthetic value and strengthen local cultural identity. This application provides an interesting visual experience for tourists and serves as an educational medium to introduce the diversity of West Java batik motifs to the wider community. In conclusion, the application of Parahyangan motifs in hotel interior design in Bandung can elevate local cultural heritage while creating a harmonious modern atmosphere.

Abstract

Design of the illustration book “Taripedia” is a media for introduction traditional archipelago dances for elementary school children initiated by Svadara Dance Studio, South Jakarta. Traditional archipelago dances that contain noble values of the Indonesian nation need to be introduced early so that the younger generation can appreciate and preserve the cultural heritage of the archipelago. This illustration book is designed with attractive illustrations in accordance with the characteristics of children, such as the use of colorful images, simple sentences, and easy-to-understand information. The design of the illustration book “Taripedia” contains general information about the variety of traditional dances of the archipelago spread across all provincial representatives in Indonesia. This book will be released in conjunction with the evaluation event or year-end exam for Svadara Dance Studio students, named “Ekliptika”. The final result of this research is an illustration book that not only functions as a learning medium, but also as a means of fun entertainment for elementary school-age children. The book design method uses descriptive qualitative research methods through literature review, interviews, and observations. It is expected that this illustration book can be an effective medium in introducing and fostering a love for traditional archipelago dances in elementary school-age children.

Abstract

The manga "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," which has gained global popularity, not only offers an engaging narrative but also showcases the richness and diversity of Japanese cultural elements. This study aims to identify and analyze cultural symbols, traditional aesthetics, and historical representations integrated into the manga's visualization. The method used is documentation analysis, focusing on visual elements such as Ukiyo-e art, Calligraphy, Yokai, Character Design, and Backgrounds as traditional symbols reflecting Japanese cultural values. The study's results indicate that "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" successfully combines classic Japanese cultural elements with a modern narrative, creating a work that is not only entertaining but also educational in introducing Japanese culture to the international audience. These findings affirm the importance of manga as an effective medium for disseminating and preserving cultural identity in the era of globalization.
