Abstract

This research explores the depiction of hegemony in four literary works: The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, Girl of Kosovo by Alice Mead, and The Thief of Baghdad by Alexander Romanoff. Through Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony, this research analyzes the impact of political, ethnic and patriarchal power on individuals and society. In The Kite Runner, ethnic hierarchy in Afghanistan is reflected through Pashtun-Hazara relations. A Thousand Splendid Suns reveals the oppression of patriarchy and the Taliban regime's rule over women. In contrast, Girl of Kosovo depicts the trauma of war through political-military domination amidst ethnic conflict in the Balkans. The Thief of Baghdad presents a fantasy narrative of resistance to the tyranny of the authorities through symbolism and class tensions. Although set in different contexts, these four works demonstrate the universal theme of struggle against hegemonic power and the role of literature in articulating both trauma and hope. The analysis uses a qualitative approach by examining quotations, symbolism, dialogue, and characterization to identify forms of hegemony. As a result, literature becomes a reflective medium that highlights the multidimensional impact of hegemony in history and culture. This research demonstrates the relevance of Gramsci's theory in understanding complex global socio-political dynamics.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming in Pinrang Regency faces various challenges, including high mortality rates, slow growth, and attacks by various diseases, which are largely caused by poor water quality. This study aims to assess the potential of using green mussels (Perna viridis) as a biofilter to improve water quality and, in turn, enhance shrimp farming productivity. The research was conducted in Suppa District, using shrimp ponds managed with a traditional system and equipped with water reservoirs. Green mussels were used in the biofiltration system to improve water quality. The results showed that the use of green mussels significantly reduced the concentration of heavy metals such as mercury (Hg), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in the pond water. This improvement in water quality contributed to an increase in shrimp production to 582 kg/ha, a significant rise compared to the previous production level of 250 kg/ha and the national average of 500 kg/ha. The biofiltration process by green mussels helped reduce pollutants and created a healthier environment for shrimp growth. These findings suggest that using green mussels as a biofilter can effectively improve water quality and Vannamei shrimp farming productivity, while providing an environmentally friendly solution to enhance production yields in the shrimp farming industry in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the government in efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency, with a focus on the implementation of the Foster Father Program and Food Assistance. Stunting, which is caused by chronic malnutrition, has a negative impact on child growth and development and is one of the main health problems in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the government plays an active role in facilitating synergy between various parties, including the community, private sector, and local government institutions, to reduce stunting rates. On the other hand, the Food Assistance program focuses on the distribution of nutritious food to families at risk of stunting, in collaboration with institutions such as the Post Office and Baznas. Both programs are equipped with periodic measurements of child growth by health cadres using adequate tools. The conclusion of this study confirms that the role of the government in Driyorejo District, through strengthening cross-sector coordination and community participation, has had a positive impact on reducing the prevalence of stunting. However, the sustainability of this program requires budget support, community education, and ongoing evaluation to ensure long-term effectiveness.
