Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of metacognitive strategies on grammar mastery of class XI students, especially in if conditional sentences . Type of research is using the method of research quantitative with the design of experiments . Researchers took data from the MADRASAH ALIYAH YPP RIDHO ALLAH, KAMPUNG PERLABIAN. The population in class XI is 40 students , and there are 2 classes . Each class has 20 students . The entire amount of the population of the sample in the study of this . In this study, there were 2 classes, namely the experimental class (XI-A) and the control class (XI-B) . Researchers gave a pretest before applying treatment and posttest after treatment. Then the researchers analyzed the data of the use of the formula statistic and Microsoft Excel with a level of significance 0 , 05 . Then the researcher gets the data from the study , namely The result is t count (8.55)> t table (1.69) which means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. These results were obtained from the pretest and posttest scores of the students from the experimental class and the control class, where the posttest scores in the experimental class were higher than the control class . Can be concluded that Ha is accepted which is contained the influence of metacognitive strategies that significantly towards mastery of grammar studentsKeyword: metacognitive, grammar if conditional

Abstract

The objective of  this  research  is  to  improve students’  skill in writing in Narrative Text by utilizing the Wattpad Application at the eight grade students of Junior High School. In conducting the study, the researcher involved the English teacher, the school principal, and the students at the second grade of Senior  High  School  especially  VIII-1  class.  This  research  conduct  at  SMP Yayasan Perguruan Keluarga Pematangsiantar as the subject of researcher. The subject of this research were consisted of 25 students. The research conduct with classroom  action  research.  In  conducting  this  action  research,  the  researcher divided  the  action  into  two  cycles.  The  researcher  collaborated  with  English teacher  in  implementing  the  actions.  The  data  of  this  study  were  mostly qualitative although there were some quantitative data. The qualitative data were from observation sheet, interview transcripts, and documentation,. While the quantitative data were from Pre-Test, Post-Test I and Post-Test II, The result of students’ score shows that the students’ average score keep improving in every test. The students’ average score in pre-test was 57.7, There were 2 students (8 %) who passed the Minimum Mastery criterion (75). In the Post-tTst in cycle I, there was 10 students (40%) who passed the score 75. In the Post-Test in cycle II there was 22 students (81.8%) who passed the Minimum Mastery criterion (75). Based on the quantitative data above, it can be seen that the students’ score showed the improvement from the first  to  the  last  test.  Furthermore,  the qualitative data showed that all the learning activities gave contributions not only improved the students’  skills  in  writing  Narrative  Text  but  also  the  students’  confidence, interest, enthusiasm, and motivation.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the improvement of students’ skills in writing narrative text by using the Dictation Dictogloss Method. This research was conducted by implementing the rules and steps of Classroom Action Research. The collected data in this research was analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative technique. The qualitative data was taken from observation sheet, interview, diary notes and documentations. The result of this research found that there was an improvement on students writing narrative skills by applying Dictation Dictogloss Method. It was supported by the increase mean of the score in every single meeting. The mean in pre-test was 40,67. The mean of post-test in cycle one was 65,6. The mean of post-test in cycle two was 70,17. This data indicated that students score was increased in every meeting. The percentage of students passed in every meeting was also improved. The data stated that in pre-test there were only two students passed (6,67%). In the post- test of cycle one there were fourteen students passed (46,67%). In the post-test of cycle two there were twenty students passed (66,67%). By the data gathered in  this  research,  it  can  be  concluded  that  students  were  more  engaged, motivated and interested in writing narrative text after the implementation of Dictation Dictogloss Method

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether the students’ ability in English grammar taught by dice game is better than without dice game. The method of this research was quantitative method with the experimental research. The population of this research was the eight grade student which is distributed into two classes totally 60 students. There were 30 students in experimental class and there were 30 students in the control class. The finding of this research shows that teaching English Grammar by using dice game is effective. The mean of experimental class from pre-test was 50.33 and post-test was 67.17. It was also proved by tobserved (9.431) which is higher than ttable (1.671) in degree significance 5%. Furthermore, the hypothesis test that sign 2-tailed (p) was 0.00 while alpha (α) was 0.05 (0.00 < 0.005. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, the students’ English grammar taught by dice game is better than without taught by dice game.

Abstract

This  study  aims  to  determine  the  effect  of  the  scattergories  games  toward  students’ vocabulary observed and conducted at MTs Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. This research was conducted using quasi experimental research design. The populations in this research are students of seventh grade MTs Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. And the sample of this research was all of the students of second grade MTs Baharuddin because the total number of the population less than 0ne hundred students. In this research, the researcher using scattergories games in experimental class while in controlled class without using scattergories game. In this study, the researcher use pretest, treatment and posttest. Researcher uses SPSS v. 26 to calculate the data. In the posttest of experimental class and controlled class the researcher finds that the sig. (2 tailed) on the t-test 0.00 < 0.05, so there is significant different between controlled class and experimental class. Ha accepted and Ho rejected. It can be conclude that there is an effect towards students’ vocabulary by using scattergories game. (Key Word: Vocabulary, Scattergories Games)

Abstract

This research aimed to find out The Effect of Direct Interaction Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text at the Eight Grade of MTS Ponpes Darul Quran Medan in 2020/2021 Academic Year. The population of the research was the eight grade student that amount 53 students consist of two classes. The research methodology was an experimental research, which conducted the experimental class (VII1 -1 ) and control class (VII1-2) as sample. The result of the research shown that The Effect of Direct Interaction Strategy In Teaching Reading Comprehension at Eight Grade of MTS Ponpes Darul Quran Medan in 2020/2021 Academic Year can be describe as below: the average of the score 76,55 with the highest score is 92 and the lowest score is 62 (by using Direct Interaction Strategy) and the average of the score is 59,45 with the highest score is 86 and the lowest score is 54 (by using Conventional Method)The test consist of two types, namely pre-test and post-test, the data were analized by using t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the result of the research show that the value of t-count wash higher than the value of t-table 11,277> 2,000 at the level significant of a =0.05 and at the degree of freedom (df)= 51. It was indicated there is the significant effect of direct interaction strategy in teaching reading comprehension, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.

Abstract

This research is aims to determine the ability of students in identifying independent and dependent clauses in sentences in the Darul Arqom Persantren, Tenth grade students of SMK Darul Arqom.  The population of this study was students of class X SMK-1 Darul Arqom, and by using total sampling, as many as 30 students were sampled in this study.  To get the data, the writer prepared a test made by the teacher. This test is about identifying independent and dependent clauses. After obtaining the data, the researcher analyzed the percentage of students' abilities and calculated the proficiency index using the formula recommended by Arikunto. The results showed that 87% or about 26 students were  considered  "capable"  and  13%  or  about  4  students  were  considered incapable. This means that students in the first school year of the 2019-2020 academic year at the Darul Arqom Muhammadiyah Private SMK-1 that students are able to identify independent and dependent clauses in sentences.

Abstract

Smartphone addiction is a problem among students in the technology era. In this context, guidance from adults (teachers or parents) is needed for children (students). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services in minimizing smartphone addiction. The background of this research is at SDN 101910 Sidodadi, specifically the research subjects, namely 30 students of class VI for the academic year 2022/2023 to test how big the level of smartphone addiction is among students, between before and after being given group guidance services. The type of this research is counseling guidance action research (PTBK), carried out in 2 cycles. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively using questionnaires and observations. The results of this study indicate the level of smartphone addiction of VI SDN 101910 Sidodadi students when a pre-test was held on 8 students (26.7%), 2 students in the high category, and 6 students in the very high category. Furthermore, in the first cycle, group guidance services were provided through group discussions, lectures, questions and answers, and filling out questionnaires. There were 2 students (6.7%) who were still addicted to smartphones in the high category and 4 students in the medium category, 2 students in the low category. In cycle II, 1 student (3.3%) was still addicted to smartphones in the high category, 3 students in the low category, and 4 students in the very low category. Thus, it was concluded that the level of smartphone addiction in students decreased after being given counseling services.

Abstract

The study was intended to understand the effect of the Outdoor Activity approach on the writing capacity of the students observed and evaluated by seven-grade students at SMP IT Suara Da'I Muda Langkat. Experimental study design was the approach used. The population in this study was seven grade of the Students of SMP IT SuaraDa'I Muda Langkat. The researcher took all of the population of the seven grades, there are two classes and divided them as experimental and control class while taking the sample of this study. In the experiment, there were 25 students and 25 students in control class. The researcher taught in the experimental class using the Outdoor Activity technique and thye control class taught using the Lecturing approach. The investigator used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The experimental class increased from 56,40 to 75,80 by 19,4 points, while the control class increased from 49,60 to 65,60 by 16 points. The researchers found that the value of Sig was determined by using SPSS V22 in the post-test of the experiment and control class.It was 0,000 in the T-Test (2tailed). It was lower than 0,05 (0,000<,0.05), so there was a substantial distinction between the class of the experiment and the class of the monitor. In other words, by using the Outdoor Activity approach, the achievement of the students in writing is more successful than the method of lecturing.

Abstract

This research was aimed to know and to describe how the English newspaper articles can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery by using English newspaper articles at  eighth grade of MTs S Babul Ulum Medan Labuhan in 2018/2019 academic year. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research consisted of 30 students of VIII-1. In this case the teacher of MTS Al Munawwarah as an observer and collaborator.  The  research  conducted  in  two  cycles,  cycle  I  consist  of  t wo meetings and cycle II was one meeting. The research was conducted as follow; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data used in this research such as: Pre-test and Post-test, observation sheet, interview sheet, diary notes, and documentation. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained by analysing the interview, observation result, diary notes and documentation. Then, quantitative data were obtained from the students’ vocabulary score of pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II. The result of this research showed that there was improving of students’ vocabulary  mastery through  English  newspaper  articles.  Most  of the  students achieved a good score at the end of every cycle. The passing grade of English lesson was 75 (seventy five). The mean of the pre-test was 42,66. The mean of the first cycle was 70,50. The mean of second cycle was 86,33. It was indicated that the scores and the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. The percentage of students who got point 75or more also grew up. It means that there was an improving about 43,33%. The post-test of cycle II, students who got point 75or more there were 30 students (100%) and the improving was about 56,67%. For the total improving of the students’ score from pre-test to post-test of cycle II was 100%. In other words, the students’ vocabulary mastery improved and became very well in the first meeting to the next meeting. Related to observation result and the interview, showed that got positive responses from the students. The students were more active, enthusiasm, motivated in teachinglearning process. In addition, from English newspaper articles, the students could develop their own personal vocabulary  and  get  much  variation  of  vocabularies.  Thus,  it  was  found  that through English newspaper articles can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
