Abstract

The objectives of this study is to analyze the movie by using Sigmund Freud Theory. This study aims to find out the inner conflict or Psychological aspects of the main character’s, Suleyman in the movie “Ayla the Daughter of War”. This study used descriptive method. The data were collected through utterances of major character which indicates inner conflict. The results show that there are 15 Id, and 17 Superego. In this movie, Suleyman’s character is dominated by Superego, and The ego on the Suleyman character as a determinant of the Superego and Id. In accordance with the findings, the writers would like to suggest to further writers in choosing the movie which has the characters that suitable for the theory of psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the reading interest of class VIII SMP Negeri in Jambi City. This research uses survey research method. Sampling in this study using cluster sampling technique. The number of samples in this study were 100 students from 2 well-known schools in Jambi City they are SMPN 1and SMPN 6 Jambi city. In this study, they were asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding students' reading interest as a research instrument. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis with quantitative data. The results showed that the reading interest of class VIII Junior High School in Jambi city was in the high category, namely 74.55%. This means that most students in the city of Jambi have a fairly high demand for reading, especially reading knowledge books.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine whether the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique can significantly improve students' speaking abilities. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental study design with a pre- and post-testing control group. This study included participation from forty students. Twenty students were assigned to the experimental group, while the remaining 20 were assigned to the control group. The result of the pair sample t-test indicates that there was a statistically significant improvement in the speaking performance of students before and after the adoption of the Think-Pair-Share approach (M = 11.98, T = -8.839), P 0.05. The overall findings of the study indicate that the Think-Pair-Share technique can improve the performance of the students. In addition, Think- Pair-Share provided the students with extra opportunities to communicate English. The students‟ English speaking confidence increased. They also contributed actively to the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

The research aimed at finding out the English competence needed by nursing department students during the course of their studies as well as in preparing themselves for their future work as nurses at the international level. The competence needed by the students and nurses-to-be was then used as the basis for designing the English material to be proposed to and adopted by the curriculum at Baiturrahim Vocational high School Jambi. This research took place at the Baiturrahim Vocational high School Jambi. The research was descriptive qualitative in nature. This study used interviews and observations to collect the data to answer the research questions. The source of data was sixteen nursing students, one teacher and the headmaster. The results of the data analysis indicated that there were ten main competencies to acquire by nursing students to function properly in the nursing profession. The competencies included giving explanation of the escort of basic treatment, giving the health counseling, giving the explanation of the escort of pathology and its treatment, translating the data collection, medical record and report data, executing the basic treatment, using communication skills in a healthcare, approaching to the patient, listening, questioning and diagnosing, giving explanation and advice, and communicating in term of involving patient in management. The ten basic competencies were then used as the bases in designing the syllabus for the Nursing Department students. The type of syllabus chosen was competence-based one. The syllabus stated the competency standards, basic competencies along with their indicators, list of teaching materials, suggested learning experience, time allotment, list of resources and media, and assessment

Abstract

The YouTube app is a platform that allows users to upload creative and informative videos and then show them to other users. YouTube users are spread worldwide, including Many native English speakers and English language experts who are also involved in creating English language channels through YouTube that allow viewers to learn English from authentic sources. However, there are not many research studies that discuss the use of YouTube videos to improve English learning. The primary purpose of this research is to explore a preliminary study of the use of YouTube channels related to learning English. The research focuses on improving students' English skills. The technique of collecting data is that the researcher focuses on articles retrieved through internet search engines in the last four years, starting in 2019 and ending in 2022. The articles were selected manually and reviewed systematically—search keywords related to YouTube English Channel. Then, the findings were reviewed and categorized into two problems: the effectiveness of using English YouTube Channels based on the participant's point of view and implementing YouTube Videos as Learning Resources in English classes to improve specific language-Skills. The results show several articles reveal positive indications of using English learning resources through the English YouTube Channel. English Language Education Practitioners can find this valuable knowledge in conducting practical learning and developing various instructional tasks based on the YouTube English Channel Platform in developing EFL students' skills.

Abstract

This research is about the teachers’ problems in implementing curriculum 2013. It was conducted at SMPN 2 Wih Pesam. The aims of the research were to find out what problems are faced by those English teachers in implementing curriculum 2013 in SMPN2 Wih Pesam and to find out what are the teachers’ opinions about the change of curriculum. The design of this research was qualitative descriptive method. The subject of the research was the English teachers in SMPN 2 Wih Pesam. There were two English teachers in the school. The data was collected by using questionnaire and interview. The result showed that there were 4 problems faced by English teachers in SMPN 2 Wih Pesam. They were (1) the basic competence in curriculum 2013 cannot be modified, (2) lack of facilities, (3) the assessment, and (4) students’ low motivation. The result also showed that the English teachers agree that curriculum 2013 should be change, develop, and revise in some aspects to be a perfect curriculum.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to find out the barrier factors of learning process in fourth semester students in learning English skills through online learning method in English Education Study Program at UIN STS Jambi. A case study was used in the design of this study. The subjects of this study were students of the fourth semester of English Education Study Program. This research data was collected through observation and interview, based on findings and analysis, the process of learning English skills by students of the fourth semester of the English Education Study Program through online learning has several barrier factors. One of these factors is the lack of facilities and infrastructure in the learning process using online learning methods. In addition, the lack of facilities of the students is also the cause of barrier on the learning process using online learning methods. Moreover, the lack of parental cooperation in the learning process is also a factor. This happened due to the differences students’ learning method with their parent. Meanwhile, the implementation of online learning methods cannot be applied as a whole well. This is indicated by the method of online learning is more dominant and obstacles appeared when teaching and learning process in the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program.

Abstract

This research aims to find the effect of Project Based Learning techniques on students' writing skills. The Project Based Learning that is used in this research was Instagram for writing skill. The material was limited by descriptive text which exist on eighth grade in junior high school. This research was design by pre-experimental method which consist of two classes. The participants was chosen by random sampling which separated into class VIII A as the experimental class and VIII B as the control class at SMP Negeri 26 Sarolangun. Total meeting of doing this experimental is seven meetings including pre-test, treatment and post-test. The result of this study was significance. It showed by the result of paired sample t test, the value was 0.001 ≤ 0.05. It denotes Ha's acceptance. Therefore, posting on Instagram about student writing suggests that project-based learning has a big impact.

Abstract

The study aims at describing an uncertified non-civil servant teacher’s experience in teaching at a lowly accredited private aliyah madrasa school. The study was phenomenology research by means of qualitative data gathering. The data in the research was obtained from individual interviews. The research participant was an uncertified non-civil servant teacher working at a poorly accredited private aliyah madrasa school in Jambi city. The data analysis was conducted following phase of Colaizzi’s technique by finding and describing themes from the participant’s statements. The results of the study showed that the teacher encounter many problems in teaching at a poorly accredited private aliyah madrasa school, such as lack of teaching resources and support from the school administrators.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the influence of computer-assisted language learning on students' listening skills. This research uses descriptive quantitative method in the form of a survey. This method is considered as the right approach for this type of research. Data was collected by distributing it to each class to all twelfth grade in SMAN 4 Batanghari. This study explores students' perceptions that come from students' experiences during the learning process. The results of this study are presented descriptively to reveal students' perceptions comprehensively. This study has a positive influence on computer-assisted language learning by obtaining a Likert scale score which is included in the high category, named 63.70%. it can be concluded that CALL technology can be said to be goood enough to continue to be used in the learning system.
