Abstract

Jacob's Dream at Bethel in Genesis 28:10-22 is the story of Jacob's journey from Beersheba to Haran. During the journey from Beersheba to Haran Jacob had a dream, God appeared in the dream stating promises and blessings upon him. After he had the dream he woke up from his sleep to erect a stone monument and declared the place to be a symbol of the house of God. Based on the story of Jacob who erected the stone, in Toraja tradition there is also a rite of simbuang batu or menhir. In the implementation of the Rambu Solo' ritual or death ceremony, a rite of erecting a simbuang batu or menhir is carried out in the rante, namely the yard where the Rambu Solo' ritual is carried out. This study aims to determine Jacob's dream at Bethel Genesis 28:10-22 and the symbol of simbuang batu in the Rambu Solo' ceremony ritual as an effort of anamnesis and mimesis. The author intends to use a qualitative research method. Qualitative research is used as an effort by researchers to explore information and analyze the meaning and value of an object being studied. Data collection techniques are carried out through literature studies and interviews. The author has conducted interviews with several sources who understand the simbuang batu ritual in the Rambu Solo' ceremony ritual in Toraja. The results of the study indicate that Jacob's Dream in Bethel is a symbol of God's presence expressed by Jacob through the symbol of the establishment of a stone monument as the house of God which expresses His presence and love. In line with that, the Toraja people understand simbuang batu as a symbol of love and affection in family relationships. As an effort of anamnesis and mimesis, the author is interested in writing about this topic.

Abstract

This research, which was conducted in March-June 2024 in the city of Banjarmasin, wanted to highlight the meaning of house building for the Banjar people. Research using theological-cultural studies which combines the theory of historical analysis of texts with a cultural approach, found several research results, namely: first, the foundation has the meaning of life; second, the type of house reflects social strata; third, religious values are the foundation of the house and fourth, ecological values in understanding the house.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Ngitus Bali customary law in Murutuwu Village, Central Kalimantan, as a social control mechanism that continues to be upheld despite the influence of modernity and positive law. The Ngitus Bali customary law, involving traditional leaders such as the Pangulu and Mantir, is used to resolve various social disputes, ranging from household issues to land conflicts, with sanctions and reconciliation ceremonies as part of the practice. Although formal laws have been implemented in the village, the community still relies on resolving disputes through customary courts, which is considered more relevant and effective in maintaining social harmony. This research uses a qualitative approach with interviews and observations to explore the community's understanding of customary law and its role in maintaining social stability. The findings indicate that Ngitus Bali functions as a form of social control that strengthens social order and preserves cosmic balance within the Dayak Ma’anyan community in Murutuwu Village.

Abstract

The sin phrase "envy" appears only three times in the entire book of Proverbs, namely Proverbs 3:31; 14:30; 23:17, and this sin has a very negative impact on Gen-Z because it can trigger behavior without ethics and morals. In the literature search, there is a research gap in discussing this sin specifically and comprehensively because the discussion is often combined in wisdom advice and book structure. The purpose of this study is to specifically and comprehensively analyze this sin and its negative impact on the spiritual development of Gen-Z. Based on the hermeneutic method of the subgenre of wisdom literature, this study found that there are four negative effects, namely: first, destructive comparisons; second, emotional health problems; third, spiritual deterioration; and fourth, damaged relationships. This research is a contribution for counselors and educators to better understand and reach out to Gen-Zs who are bound by the sin of envy.

Abstract

This research uses a literature study research method, with an exegesis approach. Exegesis will be conducted on the text of Joel 2:28-29 with the help of literature and book sources as well as theological journal articles related to this article. This article examines the outpouring of the Holy Spirit prophesied by Joel in Joel 2:28-29 and its impact on the paradigm of the spiritual life of the church today. The prophecy signaled a major shift in the way God reveals Himself to His people, from an exclusive outpouring of the Holy Spirit to an inclusive outpouring to all people, regardless of social status, gender, or age. Through this research, this article aims to discover and offer the theological implications of a more inclusive outpouring of the Holy Spirit to all believers, allowing every individual to participate in the ministry and mission of the church. Based on an analysis of the text of Joel and its application in the context of today's church, this article shows how the outpouring of the Holy Spirit changes the way the church views ministry, mission, and personal relationship with God.

Abstract

This paper explores the concept of shame awareness as an important component in preventing scandals in Christian leadership in Indonesia. Through a literature review, this paper examines the implications of the fall of Adam and Eve and the resulting shame for the context of contemporary Christianity. The paper argues that cultivating shame awareness among Christian public officials can foster responsibility, obedience, the ability to resist the temptations of power, personal ambition, and awareness of sin, thus leading to the creation of a healthy Christian living environment. By understanding the dynamics of shame and the message of the story of Adam and Eve, Christian public officials in Indonesia will be better prepared to manage the complexities of leadership while upholding moral and ethical responsibilities.
