Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Karamunting leaves (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa) are a medicinal plant widely used in Indonesia for their bioactive compounds, which exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antidyslipidemic, and anti-hyperglycemic properties. However, the safe dosage for human use remains undetermined. This study aims to assess the sub-acute toxicity of ethanol extracts of karamunting leaves on the hematological profile of female white rats. Methods: This study used an experimental laboratory design with a post-test control group. Karamunting leaves were extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol as the solvent. The hematological profiles measured included erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and hematocrit levels. Female white rats of the Wistar were randomly divided into six groups. The negative control group received only a 0.5% Na CMC suspension, while the treatment groups received ethanol extracts of karamunting leaves at doses of 200 mg/kg BW, 400 mg/kg BW, 800 mg/kg BW, 1600 mg/kg BW, and 3200 mg/kg BW. Blood samples were collected after 14 days of treatment. Results: The hematological profiles indicated no significant differences among the groups. However, the treatment group that received extracts at a dose of 1600 mg/kg BW showed a poor hematological profile. Conclusion: Generally, the ethanol extract of karamunting leaves did not affect the hematological profiles of the test animals. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Indonesia has the highest rate of cervical cancer in Southeast Asia. However, early detection through Visual Inspection of Acetate Acid (VIA) among Women of Childbearing Age (WCA) in Indonesia, including Jambi City, remains low. This research aims to determine knowledge and attitudes toward cervical cancer prevention, and the willingness undergo VIA examination among married WCA at the Kenali Besar Public Health Center in Jambi City. Methods: An observational-analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using questionnaires. 110 samples were chosen by accidental sampling technique and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Most participants were in early adulthood (52.7%), had secondary education (50.9%), were unemployed (59.1%), had sufficient knowledge (40%) and attitudes (51.8%), but low willingness for VIA (47.3%). The main reason for not undergoing VIA was the absence of symptoms (22.7%). Most who had VIA had only been tested once (70%), with all results negative (100%). Conclusion: The willingness to undergo VIA screening is still low. Increasing the VIA screening coverage requires the improvement of knowledge about cervical cancer and attitudes toward cervical cancer prevention through effective health promotion. Keywords: cervical cancer; women of childbearing age; VIA test; knowledge; attitudes; willingness; behavior

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Anthropometry is essential in identifying biological profiles, including height. One of the most commonly used anthropometric data to estimate height is the length of the humerus bone. This study analyzes the correlation between humeral length and height among medical students at UNJA. Methods: This study is an analytical correlational study conducted cross-sectionally. The sample consisted of male and female students who met the inclusion criteria: active medical students at UNJA who were willing to participate by signing an informed consent form. The exclusion criteria included deformities, a history of injuries, or bone disabilities. The humeral length was measured using a measuring tape, and height was measured using a microtoise. Results: The study found a correlation coefficient between humeral length and height ranging from 0.660 to 0.788 (p < 0.001). The simple linear regression equation obtained showed a Standard Error of the Estimation (SEE) ranging from 3.802 to 4.912 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: A strong positive correlation exists between humerus length and height, indicating that height can be estimated by measuring humerus length and applying it to the simple linear regression equation.
