Abstract

Ratimanjari , authored by Jayadeva, is a seminal work in Indian erotology that integrates poetic expression with Vajikarana Tantra, a branch of Ayurveda focused on sexual and reproductive health. This study explores the text's insights on partner dynamics, erogenous zones, and sexual techniques in the context of contemporary sexual medicine. A critical textual analysis of Ratimanjari was conducted alongside classical Ayurvedic texts and Kamasutra to fill the gaps in the existing literature and perspectives on erotology. The study examined Sanskrit terminology, aphoristic content, and historical interpretations to assess the text’s relevance to modern psychosexual health. Ratimanjari classifies sexual archetypes, outlines 16 sexual postures, and identifies erogenous zones. It emphasizes partner compatibility, emotional intimacy, and techniques for enhancing sexual satisfaction. The findings suggest that Ratimanjari provides a nuanced understanding of intimacy beyond physical pleasure, encompassing emotional and psychological dimensions. The classification of sexual archetypes and emphasis on adaptability resonate with modern theories of sexual compatibility and partner responsiveness. Jayadeva’s Ratimanjari remains a valuable text for understanding human sexuality. Integrating its classical wisdom with contemporary sexology can enhance perspectives on sexual health, relational satisfaction, and psychosexual well-being.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the Iraqi EFL L2 motivating self-system, reading ability, and gender. In order to find answers to the research questions, a correlational methodology was used, and the study was designed as a qualitative investigation. One hundred EFL students from secondary schools in Karbala, Iraq, participated. The present research is remarkable since it integrates the L2 motivational self-system, which takes into account the various viewpoints of the learners of English as a foreign language in a time of globalization. The findings showed that the L2 motivating self-system and reading ability skill were positively correlated, and it also demonstrated that the ought-to L2 self, L2 learning experience, and ideal L2 self were positively and strongly predicted by reading ability. Furthermore, the ought-to L2 self was the most powerful positive predictor of reading ability skill among the three measures of the L2 motivational self-system. Additionally, the results showed that there is not a significant distinction between male and female students' L2 motivating self-systems for learning English. Regarding reading ability skill, there was not any significant difference among the genders of the participants.

Abstract

The traces of colonialism continue to shape the way we think and understand culture, identity and power. This is often through stigmatized ideas of race and simplified distinctions between “us” and “them.” These narratives, rooted in colonial discourse, tend to ignore the complexity of indigenous realities. This research attempts to explore how postcolonial writers challenge and deconstruct these dominant narratives, revealing their political and ideological underpinnings. Drawing on Jacques Derrida’s concept of deconstruction, it examines how contradictions in colonial texts can be exposed and subverted to make room for alternative voices. Through an in-depth analysis of literary works such as The Wretched of the Earth, Season of Migration to the North, 1984, and The Book of Chameleons. The findings of the study highlight how literature becomes a tool of resistance that, through deconstruction and subversion, reshapes identities, reclaims silenced stories, and undermines colonial authority. Equally significant, by demonstrating that meaning is never fixed, the strategies of deconstruction and subversion employed in these works underscore the power of literature to disrupt hegemonic narratives and to open up new, pluralistic perspectives on the complexities of the postcolonial world.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine online news media reports about the internationalization of Bahasa Indonesia in Kompas.id. The focus of this research is to identify the representations of Bahasa Indonesia and to understand the reality that is constructed in the news. This research used a qualitative method in analyzing four online news texts by applying Norman Fairlough’s ideas of textual dimensions (description) regarding the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Data collection techniques were conducted through documentation, while data validity was obtained through internal validity. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the news of the internationalization of Bahasa Indonesia in online news media Kompas.id forms a discourse that emphasizes nationalism and pride in UNESCO recognition. Specific lexical choices such as golden door, national pride, and historic milestone reinforce a narrative of achievement. However, Kompas.id minimizes critical perspectives on ongoing challenges such as the need for academic vocabulary development and international curriculum alignment. As the result, online news media Kompas.id shows how the media shapes public understanding of the position of Bahasa Indonesia at the global level.

Abstract

Leila Aboulela’s novel Bird Summons (2019) dramatizes the effects of cultural encounters in reconsidering the deeply rooted principles of traditionalism and negotiating the modern Western tenets. It reveals numerous aspects of ambivalence, complexity, and potentiality, asserting the inevitability of change under the conditions of transculturality and postcoloniality. The article pinpoints the intrinsic motifs behind negating traditionalism while ‘Islamizing’ the Western tenets by three Muslim women, living in Scotland. It follows a qualitative methodology with a close reading of the Bird Summons. The theoretical framework consists of Mohammed Arkoun’s rereading Islam to overcome the dogmatic attitude of the traditional schools of thought, and Bill Ashcroft’s concept of ‘the translation’ and ‘postcolonial utopianism’ to evince the entanglements that cover postcolonial subjectivity, and to identify the role of freedom in constructing postcolonial subjectivity. The article concludes that traditionalism distorts the Islamic discourse, which requires reshuffling the cultural strata upon which the traditional Islam is established while demonstrating how transcultural and postcolonial realities accelerate the Traditional Islamic paradigm shifting.

Abstract

This tangible observation explores the opinions of EFL teachers at Bangladeshi public and private institutions regarding the usage of ChatGPT and other AI. This study scrutinized and juxtaposed the opinions of 25+25=50 EFL faculties regarding the trials and potential values of adding AI skills into EFL classes through semi-structured interviews. The key objectives are to enhance AI addition, to highlight ethical concerns and contextualize human-centered issues, and to assess the viewpoints of 25+25=50 university faculty members on the application of AI in EFL training. The research suggests a qualitative approach where the faculty members at private universities employ AI technology more frequently rather than peers at public universities. Even the outcomes of AI learning, everyone agrees that AI can help learners better, there are also concerns about plagiarism, fall in natural thinking abilities, too much reliance on AI, and the risk of inaccurate information. It is amazing that both sorts of academicians agree that training is important to make the greatest use of new skills. Finally, this study presents analytical insights into the extent of AI integration in EFL education in Bangladesh, revealing substantial gaps between public and private university views and offering options for further research and execution procedures.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of critical literacy in language teaching as an innovative strategy to foster students’ reflective thinking and intercultural competence. Drawing on Freire and Giroux’s critical literacy framework, Dewey and Schön’s reflective thinking, and Byram and Deardorff’s intercultural competence models, the research combines literature review, best practice analysis, and theoretical case studies. Findings reveal that critical literacy equips students to evaluate texts and discourses embedded with ideological values, while reflective thinking enhances self-awareness and social engagement. Intercultural competence, in turn, strengthens adaptability in cross-cultural communication. Major challenges identified include limited understanding of socio-cultural issues, difficulties in analyzing multimodal texts, implicit bias, and deeply ingrained cultural stereotypes. To address these issues, the study proposes strategies such as authentic text discussions, multimodal discourse analysis, intercultural simulations, and reflective practices. Practical solutions, including contextual scaffolding, step-by-step multimodal training, and interactive cross-cultural simulations, are recommended to ensure effective implementation. The research emphasizes the need for a holistic pedagogical approach that integrates critical literacy, reflection, and intercultural competence to develop learners who are critical, adaptive, and inclusive. Ultimately, such integration prepares students not only to succeed academically but also to engage meaningfully within increasingly complex global societies.

Abstract

This study investigated the degree to which EFL students utilize cohesive devices in their written work. Sixteen undergraduate students (10 female, 6 male) who had completed at least five semesters in the English Department participated in the research. Writing assignments were collected as data using a quantitative approach. Holliday and Hasan’s taxonomy was employed for data analysis. The analysis revealed that third-year English majors were unable to maintain a parallel use of various cohesive devices when writing English paragraphs. While they frequently utilized conjunctions and references, they rarely employed ellipses or substitutions in their descriptive paragraphs. This avoidance of substitution and ellipsis subsequently led them to overuse reference and conjunction adequately. The results also indicated that although the students understand the fundamental purpose of cohesive devices, they occasionally struggled with subtle usage and displayed a limited vocabulary of cohesive devices. Based on correctness and incorrectness, it was found that the majority of students successfully applied cohesive devices in their text; however, they still employed some cohesive devices incorrectly.

Abstract

Adwaita Mallabarman’s Titas Ekti Nadir Naam explores the disruption of tradition, identity, and space in a rural Bengali community. The study applies a Marxist-Cultural Studies approach to examine how economic and cultural changes affect the community. Marxist theory highlights the class struggles and material conditions that lead to the exploitation of the rural poor. This causes the breakdown of the socio-economic structure and disrupts the cultural continuity tied to the river. Cultural Studies examines how the community’s cultural identity and narratives are challenged by external forces like colonialism, capitalism, and modernization. These forces distort the cultural fabric, causing a crisis of identity and displacement. The relationship between material conditions and cultural identity is crucial. It shows the tension between economic oppression and cultural resistance. The objective is how economic and cultural shifts, specifically capitalism and modernization, disrupt the identity, tradition, and socio-economic fabric of the Malo community. It focuses on how the river’s flow, symbolizing life and continuity, is ‘interrupted’ by modernity and colonialism. This leads to both material and cultural disintegration. By combining Marxist and Cultural Studies perspectives, the research reveals the complex dynamics of class, culture, and identity in a changing world.
