Abstract

Jakarta as a metropolitan city still faces very complex problems, one of which is stunting. Stunting is a condition in which children experience stunted or stopped growth due to chronic malnutrition, usually occurring during early growth. The purpose of this study is to determine the picture of stunting in DKI Jakarta and reveal the DAHSAT-IPPE strategy to overcome stunting in DKI Jakarta. The research method used is a literature study, which synthesizes and analyzes data from various relevant sources. The results showed that there are factors and causes of stunting in Jakarta, such as parents' economic income, parents' education, parenting and nutrition, infant weight at birth, infant feeding and feeding schedules as well as parents' knowledge and behavior towards nutrition. Therefore, strategies that can be done to overcome stunting are DAHSAT (Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting), Immunization, Nutrition Action Program (ABG), Supplementary Feeding (PMT) and Clean Water and Healthy Latrine (ABS) Education.

Abstract

This article explores the philosophical views and social concepts of Yusuf Has Hajib, a significant thinker from the medieval period, whose ideas remain relevant to addressing contemporary societal challenges. His socio-philosophical framework centred on harmony, compromise, and solidarity, offering timeless solutions for political, economic, and social issues. By analysing Hajib's ideas, this study connects his philosophy with modern debates on governance, human dignity, and social justice. Yusuf's emphasis on fairness, the role of leaders, and the need for mutual respect across social strata highlights his forward-thinking approach. His work, particularly Kutadgu Bilig, offers insights into creating an ideal society based on justice and humanity. Furthermore, the research draws parallels between Hajib's thoughts and modern legal, political, and religious discussions in Uzbekistan, illustrating the enduring influence of his wisdom in fostering unity, addressing social inequality, and shaping the national ethos. The article underscores the relevance of philosophical heritage in contemporary reforms and policies, particularly in advancing human dignity, governance, and social harmony.
Kopitiams at Crossroads: Can Malaysia’s Cultural Heartbeat Survive Globalization? Maspul, Kurniawan; Ardhin, Muhammad

Abstract

Kopitiams—Malaysia’s storied coffee shops—are more than culinary landmarks; they are the pulsating heart of a nation’s identity, where centuries of migration, cultural fusion, and communal resilience converge. This interdisciplinary study interrogates how these spaces, born from 19th-century Chinese immigrant labor, evolved into democratic hubs where CEOs and construction workers share kopi tarik (pulled coffee) and nasi lemak, dissolving socioeconomic divides (UNESCO, 2020). Contributing 30% to Malaysia’s GDP through informal economies and sustaining 1.2 million livelihoods, kopitiams epitomize grassroots economic ingenuity, blending Robert Putnam’s social capital with Amartya Sen’s capability approach to empower marginalized communities (World Bank, 2021; Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2022). Yet, their survival teeters on an existential precipice: soaring rents, generational labor shortages, and diabetes rates of 21% linked to sugary teh tarik demand urgent reckoning (WHO, 2023). Neuroscience reveals the olfactory allure of kopi-o triggers dopamine-driven nostalgia, anchoring patrons to intergenerational bonds (Kringelbach, 2005), while Maslow’s hierarchy frames these spaces as psychological sanctuaries—68% of Malaysians sought solace here during COVID-19’s isolation (IPSOS, 2022). However, gentrification’s shadow looms; 90% of Malaysians live near a kopitiam, yet luxury developments threaten their existence, mirroring the demise of New York’s diners (KL City Hall, 2022; Zukin, 2021). This study argues that kopitiams are not relics but resilient blueprints for global cultural preservation. Malaysia may create policies that balance digitization, sustainability, and historical subsidies by combining Japan's kissaten heritage models with Italy's cooperative trattorias. Their survival is a litmus test for humanity’s capacity to honor tradition in a homogenizing world—a choice between erasure and evolution. In every steamed bun and clattering cup, kopitiams challenge us to redefine progress: not as globalization’s casualty, but as a symphony of memory and modernity.
