Abstract

This paper surveys the relationship between environmental capital and political capital among countries in Southeast Asia using holistic perspective. Holistic theories emphasize that the whole is not only greater than the sum of the parts, but that the parts are related in such way that their functioning is conditioned by their relationship. Holistic perspective is being supported by the ecological footprint data as environmental capital among countries in Southeast Asia. Then, this paper uses political capital among countries in that region. Political capital can be derived into some political indicators such as political rights and civil liberties. Next, the paper examines the pattern relationship between these variables environmental capital and political capital in Southeast Asia. Change in these forms of capital represent “institutional relationship” among countries in Southeast Asia. By accomplishing the concept “institutional relationship”, this paper can explain various responses among countries in Southeast Asia for responding uncertainty condition around those capitals. Keywords: Southeast Asia, Environmental Capital, Political Capital, Holistic Perspective

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the constraining factors of food competitiveness on the Java island, Indonesia. The data used are primary data with samples of 245 sellers. The sampling method used is purposive sampling. The data analysis method used is Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The process of data analysis begins with identifying and calculating the weight of the perception of all the constraining factors of food competitiveness. At this stage, fifteen factors with the highest and lowest weight are obtained. They, respectively, are fluctuated purchase price of local food and the lack of IT facilities for the buyer to obtain food information. The next stage is the prioritization of the constraining factors of food competitiveness.  Based on AHP approach, there are eight factors constraining food competitiveness with the first and last priority, respectively are, the integration of the agricultural business upstream - downstream and food commodity prices. Keywords: Competitiveness, Food, AHP

Abstract

The objective of the study is to determine the probability of tobacco farmers experiencing crop failure as a result of climate change. The agricultural sector, includes tobacco, is a commodity that is vulnerable due to climate change. Climate change is a natural phenomenon that cannot be avoided. Symptoms of this natural phenomenon are rainfall, humidity, irradiation and temperature of floods, droughts or shifts in seasons. If these symptoms are not anticipated, the farmers have the potential to experience loss and declining in the production of copper in the temanggung, as the backbone of the economy of Central Java Province. The research method used is Qualitative Descriptive statistics with Logistic Regression. Techniques for collecting data using questionnaire techniques, interviews, observation and literature. The sample in this study amounted to 100 respondents who were tobacco farmers in the Parakan District. Based on the results of the study of independent variables that affect the probability of harvest failure of tobacco farmers in the Parakan sub-district are: (1) Age, (2) Duration of Farming, (3) Labor Wage Level, (4) Farmer Group Membership. Keywords: Adaptation, Climate Change, Logistic, Crop Failure
