Abstract

Tungro is one of the important diseases in rice plants caused by two types of viruses were rod virus (rice tungro bacilliform virus) and spherical virus (rice tungro spherical virus) that was transmitted by the green leafhopper (GLH) Nephotettix virescens. The purpose of this study to determine the adaptation of new improved varieties against GLH and tungro disease in Merauke, Papua Province. Research conducted at Tanah Miring District, Merauke, Papua Province between February and June 2010. The study was a randomized block design with three replications. The treatment consisted of 11 varieties, namely Inpari 1, Inpari 2, Inpari 3, Inpari 4, Inpari 5 Merawu, Inpari 6 Jete, Inpari 7 Lanrang, Inpari 8, Inpari 9 Elo, Inpari 10 Laeya, and Ciherang. Observations included the intensity of tungro and GLH population density at the age of rice plants of 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks after planting (WAP). In addition, it was observed also the yield components of rice. The results showed that the GLH population density and the intensity of tungro disease was not significantly different at the 11 varieties tested. GLH attack had been found in 1 WAP with an average population density of 4.18 individual/20 single swing. GLH increases with the age of the rice crop with an average population density in 2 WAP (20 individual), 3 WAP (103.27 individual), and 4 WAP (154.15 individual) per 20 single swing. Tungro disease intensity in 11 varieties began were found in 3 WAP on average by 0.16% and increased at 4 WAP on average by 0.28%. Varieties significant effect on yield components such as plant height, panicle length, number of total grain/panicle, percentage of filled grain, 1000 grain weight and productivity except the number of panicles/clump.

Abstract

Research on the effects of growing medium mixtures of strawberry’s (Fragaria vesca L.) growth as ornamental plants in vertical garden was implemented from April to July 2016 in anexperimental field in Salaran Getasan Village. The purpose of this study were to 1) investigate the effects of different organic medium mixtures containing soil and rice husk, cocopeat, on compost banana stem on strawberry’s growth and 2) determine the best mixture for strawberry’s vertical system. The study was conducted using a randomized block design (RBD) with 10 treatments and four replications. The treatments included different compositions of soil and each material with a mixture ratio of 1: 1, 1: 2 and 2: 1. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and DMRT at 5% of error level as well as correlation test. Mixing organic medium as rice husk, cocopeat and compost banana stem with soil provided a significant influence on the number of leaves, number of Mixing organic medium as rice husk, cocopeat and compost banana stem with soil provided a significant influence on the number of leaves, number of shoot and shoot’s dry weight. The best growing medium mixture for strawberry’s growth was soil and rice husk with a ratio 2:1.

Abstract

Swampand dryland agroecosystems has the potential tobe used as acomplementary effort to improve national food security. This effort washamperedby the disruption of plant disease in new improved varieties of riceasone of the technology to increase rice production. This study aims to determine the performance of rice diseases at new improved varieties for swamp and dryland agro eco systems. Research conducted in 2013 growing season in ICR Rusinga randomized block design with 3 replications. The treatments were13new improved varietiesi.e. Inpara 1, Inpara 2, Inpara 3, Inpara 4, Inpara 5, Inpara 6, Inpara 7, Inpago 4, Inpago 4, Inpago 5, Inpago 6, Inpago 7, Inpago 8, and Inpago 9. For disease survei llance drawn diagonalline in each experimental plot, each diagonalline taken10 samples of plant clumps. Each sample clumps was observed the disease severity that were found by scoring method (IRRI, 2002).The results showed there were six diseases that infect new improved varieties for swampand upland agro ecosystems name lystem rot, sheath blight, red stripe, cercosporaleaf spot, bacterial leaf blight, and bacterialleafstreak. Stem rot with the highest severity found in Inpara3(35.18%) and Inpago4(32.96%). Sheath blight with the highest severity found in Inpara1(6.11%) and Inpago7(5.74%). Red stripe withthe highests everity found in Inpara6 (47.78%) and Inpago9 (40.74%). Cercosporaleaf spotwiththe highestseverity found in Inpara5(40.37%) and Inpago6 (14.82%). Bacterial leaf blight with the highest severity found in Inpara3(24.26%) andInpago9 (32.04%). Bacterial leaf streak with the highest severity found in Inpara3(9.26%) and Inpago6 (30.56%).

Abstract

Chrysanthemum in Kenteng Village was conducted at Kenteng Village, Bandungan District, Semarang Regency on 12 February 2016-13 April 2016. This study aims to 1) determine the condition of the chrysanthemum farmers’ market orientation; 2) know the determinants of market orientation of chrysanthemum businessman; and 3) the effect of market orientation on postharvest handling of chrysanthemum. In this study, 100 respondents were choosen to fill in questionnaire which is then analyzed using descriptive statistics and test SEM through IBM AMOS v.22 program. The results show that 1) the orientation on the customer to produce a quality cut flower chrysanthemum is the orientation of the most widely adopted by farmers. Farmers also take the positive things that other farmers do to repair the cut flower chrysanthemum produces, farmers give bonuses to regular customers who buy in large quantities and serve payment in cash receipt, and prioritize what the customer wants and needs and trying to fulfill compared to prioritize short-term profitability; 2) the three determining factors namely age, education and gender, gender can only be accepted as a determinant factor of market orientation. Ownership of market orientation by farmers comes from the demands of the market (brokers, traders and florist) and consumers (decorater); and 3) market orientation has positive influence on post-harvest handling of cut flower chrysanthemum, where the demands of customers on a good cut flower chrysanthemum, attractive, has a shelf life and optimum freshness make farmers give more attention to post harvest activities.

Abstract

Community-based Settlement Management Program (PLPBK) is a Central GovernmentProgram through the Ministry of Public Works, which aims to create a harmonious community life order with a safe, comfortable and healthy living environment, self-sustaining and sustainable, and has high economic value for its citizens. This study aims to 1). Identify programs related to the level of community participation, 2) Analyze community-owned social capital, 3) Analyze community behavior on program activities. Determining the location is “purposively” as the site is a top priority on Community-Based Settlement Environmental Management Program (PLPBK). Random sampling was 30 people. Primary data sources are households and secondary data obtained from BPS and related agencies. The results showed that the level of community participation in PLPBK activities was high (46.41%), the absorption of funds reached 98% and there has been a significant change in community behavior under the PLPBK Program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the income of paddy farming in members and non-members of the community granary group, and to know the impact of the membership of the granary group on the income of paddy farming. This research was conducted in Bontoloe Village, Galesong Sub District, Takalar District, South Sulawesi Province. Sampling was done by two methods, first for sample of granary member using purposive sampling method, second fornon-member of granary using simple random sampling method. So the total sample in this study were 34 farmers. Data analysis used is the analysis of different test (t test) and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the income earned by farmer members of the granary group amounted to Rp 9,386,227.00, while the income earned by non-member farmers in the granary group was Rp 9,175,144.00. Differences in paddy production, revenue, and income levels between member farmers and non-members of the granary group based on t test proved not significantly different. Factors that significantly affect the income level of paddy farming are land area, paddy seed price, pesticide price, and labor wage. While the impact of membership of community granary group was not significant to the income of paddy farming. But simultaneously (land area, price of paddy seed, price of urea fertilizer, phonska fertilizer price, pesticide price, labor wage, dummy member) can affect paddy farming income of 84.99%.
