Abstract

Indonesia's international trade with India has shown significant dynamics in recent years, particularly in the electronics sector. Indonesia's electronics exports to India surged by 168.67% in January–September 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing markets. This study aims to analyze the opportunities and threats of Indonesia-India international trade using SWOT analysis, Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and Trade Complementarity Index (TCI) approaches. The research methodology employs a quantitative-descriptive approach with secondary data from BPS, UN Comtrade, ITC Trade Map, and Bank Indonesia for the period 2020–2025. The results indicate that Indonesia has significant export opportunities in the Indian market, particularly in electronics, crude palm oil (CPO), fishery products, and textiles. However, Indonesia faces challenges including a low RCA value for electronics products (0.28), intense competition from China and Vietnam, and tariff barriers within the ASEAN-India FTA framework. This study recommends strengthening competitiveness through fiscal incentives, diversification of export products, and accelerating bilateral trade agreements. These findings contribute to international trade literature in the context of Indonesia–South Asia relations.

Abstract

This study examines the competitiveness, opportunities, and challenges of Indonesian rattan furniture exports to the South Korean market. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach supported by SWOT analysis and secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Ministry of Trade, and Trade Map, the study reveals that export performance peaked at USD 45.2 million in 2021 before declining to USD 23.2 million by 2024. Despite Indonesia's dominant position as the world's primary rattan supplier accounting for approximately 85% of global production structural constraints including limited SME production capacity, inadequate logistics infrastructure, weak importer partnerships, and insufficient digital marketing hinder the full realisation of export potential. The IK-CEPA trade agreement, which eliminates tariffs to 0%, combined with the growing eco-minimalist lifestyle trend among South Korean urban consumers, presents a strategic window of opportunity. The SWOT analysis positions Indonesia in the SO (Strengths–Opportunities) quadrant, necessitating an aggressive market penetration strategy. Key recommendations include strengthening strategic partnerships with Korean importers, leveraging Coupang and Naver Shopping e-commerce platforms, enhancing SME production capacity through financing schemes, and developing a distinct Indonesian rattan brand identity for the premium segment.

The development of financial technology (fintech) in Indonesia has led to the rapid growth of the online lending ecosystem, particularly among Generation Z, who have grown up in the digital era. This article examines the relationship between the ease of access to online loans and the consumer behavior patterns of Generation Z, as well as its impact on individual financial health and national economic stability. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this study finds that the convenience, speed, and minimal requirements of online lending services have encouraged impulsive spending behavior among young people, particularly for lifestyle-related needs such as fashion, entertainment, and culinary activities. The article also discusses the financial risks associated with online lending and proposes policy recommendations and financial education initiatives as preventive solutions.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly expanded public access to technology-based financial services, including online lending (peer-to-peer lending). However, this convenience has also been accompanied by the increasing prevalence of online gambling, which frequently exploits digital financial services as a source of funding, leading to various economic, social, and legal challenges. This study aims to analyze the role of digital financial literacy in mitigating the adverse impacts of online lending and online gambling on Indonesian society. The research employs a normative juridical method using statute, conceptual, and case approaches. Data were collected through a comprehensive literature review of laws and regulations, scientific publications, official government reports, and relevant documents concerning the development of online lending and online gambling in Indonesia. The findings reveal that low levels of digital financial literacy constitute one of the primary factors contributing to individuals' vulnerability to online lending misuse and online gambling activities. Digital financial literacy plays a crucial role in enhancing public understanding of the benefits, risks, legality, and consequences of using digital financial services, thereby enabling individuals to make rational financial decisions, avoid illegal financial practices, and manage their finances sustainably. Therefore, strengthening digital financial literacy through collaboration among the government, regulators, educational institutions, financial service providers, and society represents an effective preventive strategy to reduce the negative impacts of online lending and online gambling while fostering a safe, inclusive, and sustainable digital financial ecosystem.

Abstract

This study analyzes the opportunities, threats, and solutions in international trade within the cocoa plantation sector between Indonesia and Singapore in 2025. Indonesia, as one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, has significant export potential, while Singapore functions as a regional trade and re-export hub in Southeast Asia. The objective of this research is to examine the dynamics of cocoa trade, identify key challenges, and formulate strategic solutions to enhance competitiveness. This study employs a descriptive method with a mixed approach, combining quantitative data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and qualitative data from relevant literature. The findings reveal that major opportunities include increasing global demand for cocoa-based processed products and the strengthening of bilateral trade cooperation. However, several threats persist, such as global price volatility, declining productivity due to pests and diseases, and strict international quality standards and export regulations. Additionally, competition from major cocoa-producing countries such as Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire poses further challenges. Recommended solutions include improving plantation productivity through replanting programs, implementing integrated pest management, enhancing downstream cocoa processing to increase value-added products, and strengthening certification and quality standards. These strategies are expected to improve Indonesia’s competitiveness and support sustainable trade relations with Singapore.

Abstract

International trade in Indonesia's plantation sector faces complex dynamics amid projected global growth until 2025. This study analyzes opportunities, threats, and strategic solutions for Indonesia's tea exports through a comparative case study with Malaysia, and analysis of secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, as well as the International Tea Committee (ITC) report for the 2020-2024 period. The results show key opportunities for Indonesia including demand for organic premium markets in Europe and the Americas (projected to increase 15% by 2025), RCEP policy support, and arable land superiority in West Java and Sumatra. However, significant threats include stiff competition from Malaysia which excels in halal certification and supply chain efficiency (Malaysia's exports are up 12% YoY), fluctuations in global commodity prices due to climate change, and non-tariff barriers such as EU Green Deal standards. The recommended solutions include diversification of value-added products (such as ready-to-drink packaged tea), increased sustainability certification (Rainforest Alliance), post-harvest technology investment, and Indonesia-Malaysia bilateral collaboration for ASEAN common markets. The implementation of this solution has the potential to increase Indonesia's tea export share by 20% by 2025, supporting national economic resilience.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the digital economy has created significant challenges for tax systems, particularly in applying conventional tax rules to cross-border digital transactions. Since 2020, Indonesia has experienced a substantial increase in tax disputes involving digital transactions, reflected in both the number of cases brought before the Tax Court and the monetary value of disputed tax assessments. This study aims to analyze the distinctive characteristics of digital tax disputes, identify regulatory gaps and inconsistencies that contribute to such disputes, and evaluate the effectiveness of Indonesia's existing tax dispute resolution mechanisms. The research employs a normative juridical approach, utilizing doctrinal analysis of Indonesian Tax Court decisions issued between 2020 and 2024, complemented by a comparative study of digital taxation regulations in the European Union, India, and Singapore. The findings reveal that digital tax disputes in Indonesia are primarily concentrated in three areas: the determination of virtual permanent establishments, differing interpretations regarding Value Added Tax (VAT) on cross-border digital services, and regulatory uncertainty surrounding the taxation of cryptocurrency transactions. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that most disputes arise not from taxpayers' deliberate attempts to evade taxation, but rather from ambiguities and inconsistencies within the existing legal framework. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive regulatory reform and a more adaptive tax dispute resolution system capable of providing greater legal certainty, fairness, and effectiveness in addressing the complexities of the digital economy.

Abstract

The digital economic transformation in Indonesia has driven the growth of technology-based financial services (financial technology/fintech), especially online loans or peer-to-peer (P2P) lending. The presence of online loans provides a faster, easier, and more inclusive financing alternative compared to conventional financial institutions, especially for people who are not yet reached by banking services (unbanked and underbanked). On the other hand, the growth of the online loan industry also brings various challenges, such as increased risk of bad credit, illegal lending practices, misuse of personal data, and low financial literacy among the public. This study aims to analyze the impact of the development of online loans on improving financial inclusion and Indonesia's economic growth within the digital economy ecosystem. The research method used is qualitative research with a library research approach by analyzing various scientific journals, official government reports, and data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) published during the 2021–2026 period. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method by comparing various previous research results. The findings show that online loans contribute positively to increasing financial inclusion by expanding access to financing for MSME players and people who previously had difficulty obtaining bank credit. In addition, the increase in digital financing distribution also boosts economic activity, household consumption, small-scale investment, and micro-business growth. However, the effectiveness of that contribution is largely influenced by the quality of regulations, industry supervision, consumer protection, and the improvement of the public's digital financial literacy. Therefore, strengthening the governance of the fintech lending industry becomes a key factor in maintaining the sustainability of online loans' contribution to national economic development.
