Abstract

This qualitative research aims to explore and analyze the alignment of OLCQS standards within Gamelab ID Academy, a non-formal education platform designed to assist Vocational School (SMK) students and university students in preparing for the industrial world and the job market (DUDIKA). The OLCQS model analyzes various aspects of Gamelab ID Academy, including instructional design, assessment policies, instructor-student interactions, and the learner experience. The research findings encompass an analysis of the OLC Quality Scorecard, which comprises several components, including Course Overview and Information, Course Technology and Tools, Design and Layout, Content and Activities, Interaction, and Assessment and Feedback. The results of the study indicate that the platform has several strengths, such as online learning flexibility, comprehensive content delivery, and active instructor support. However, there are areas that require improvement, such as the clarity of application tool policies and material accessibility.

Abstract

This qualitative research endeavors to investigate the innovative intersection of technology, persona, and psychology in language education through a unique lens—the world of VTuber Hololive Duolingo livestreams. The study's primary objective is to analyze the transformative potential of this approach to language learning, guided by the SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition) model and psychological perspectives. Employing purposive sampling, the research centers around six Hololive VTubers: Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, Gawr Gura, Ninomae Ina'nis, and Moona Hoshinova. The investigation uncovers how these VTubers, each with distinct personas, employ the Duolingo application to teach Japanese on livestreams and its impact on viewers' language acquisition. The findings illuminate the multifaceted effects of technology integration, ranging from familiarity to transformative language learning experiences using SAMR, accompanied by psychological engagement and motivation. This study contributes to the evolving landscape of language education in the digital age and offers a foundation for future research in this captivating domain.

Abstract

Being proficient in English is a necessity in the modern and evolving era, involving the use of English in various aspects of life. Many children have already become proficient in understanding and reading in English, but their speaking abilities remain an unresolved issue. There are many factors that contribute to the lack of speaking proficiency in English, one of which is the limited opportunity to practice and a lack of confidence. In this article, the researcher conducted a classroom action research focusing on improving the speaking skills of students, particularly at the high school level. The researcher employed the window shopping or gallery walk method to assist students in honing their speaking abilities. Thirty-six students were divided into several groups, with 1-2 individuals as presenters and other group members serving as evaluators who would engage in gallery walk/window shopping with other groups, providing questions, opinions, and suggestions. The results of the researcher's observations during the presentations indicated an improvement in students' English speaking abilities from the first to the second cycle of implementation.

Abstract

Speakers of several native languages now use English as their common language. However, English learners struggle to understand the language, especially when it differs from their mother tongues. We can draw a connection between the aforementioned statement and how accurate language shift requires a solid understanding of English to understand translation. As a result, the study titled "The Study of Language Transfer in EFL Students' Translation Work" was considered. It is crucial to understand that language transfer is the main mechanism through which languages change from the source to the target language when we examine translation. A transfer is an effect brought about by the parallels and discrepancies between the target language and any other language that has already (and possibly inadequately) been learned, according to Odlin (1989: 27). During the process of learning a second language, language transfer is one of the strategies students use to communicate in that language, both consciously and unconsciously. This issue generally arises when learners are unsure about how to properly express themselves, and it may lead to grammatical errors because the two languages' rules do not coincide. Learners' utterances display various types and frequencies of language transfer (L2) depending on their first language (L1) and level of proficiency in the second language (L2). According to Wanderley & Demmans (2020), proficiency raises a learner's awareness of L2 rules and their application. A learner who is less skilled will employ a transfer more frequently.

Abstract

Ki Hadjar Dewantara, a descendant of the aristocracy of the Yogyakarta Palace, with a profound concern for education, has given rise to a philosophical concept of National Education. According to Ki Hadjar Dewantara, education is a process of guiding every inherent potential in each student to achieve the highest level of well-being and happiness as part of society. Education, as a guidance in the growth of a child's life, reflects Ki Hadjar Dewantara's belief that every development of a student is something beyond the control or will of a teacher. Just as National Education, based on Ki Hadjar Dewantara's thoughts, the government is currently constructing a new paradigm of education that is flexible for teachers in creating classroom learning through the Teaching at The Right Level (TaRL) approach. The alignment of the flexible characteristics in the new paradigm of education with the philosophical education of Ki Hadjar Dewantara is a new hope in the development of education in Indonesia. To determine the compatibility of the concept of the new education paradigm with the implementation in the field, it is necessary to further examine the alignment of Ki Hadjar Dewantara's thoughts with the implementation of TaRL in the new education paradigm. This study employs literature review research. The results show that there is alignment between the philosophical thinking of Ki Hadjar Dewantara and the implementation of TaRL in the new education paradigm at the Senior High School level. Based on this literature review research, it can be concluded that the implementation of TaRL in schools can be considered as a manifestation of Ki Hadjar Dewantara's thoughts.
