Abstract

Exchange rate fluctuation in Floating Exchange Rate Regime is considered to Exchange rate fluctuation in Floating Exchange Rate Regime is considered to have impacts on the international trade through its adjustment to the price and its volatility to the trade risk. This paper is aimed at estimating those impacts on the international trade of manufacturing sector in Indonesia for period 2007 to 2014. To conduct estimation, it uses multiple regression analysis on two models: First, the import of raw-and-auxiliary materials; Second, the export of manufacturing sector. The results show that the exchange rate impacts both work significantly on the import of raw-and-auxiliary materials. The finding implies that, through the import of raw-and-auxiliary materials, manufacturing sector is very susceptible to the shock caused by exchange rate changes. Meanwhile, the export of manufacturing sector is not able to take advantage of the depreciation of the exchange rate due to the lack of competitiveness.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v6i2.5210

Abstract

The nature of the relationship between the twin problem of poverty and unemployment has been unclear recently. Although the nature of the relationship has received more extensive scholarly attention worldwide and even in Nigeria, no study raised on the nature of its relationship in the region (state) which might produce an inverse relationship different from the proportionate obtained in previous studies. Hence the study on the relationship between poverty and unemployment in Niger state, Nigeria, using descriptive and a logistics regression model to analyze the 102 cross-sectional data randomly collected from the three geopolitical regions in the state. The result thus shows the existence of a proportionate relationship between poverty and unemployment, following the pattern of previous studies. The study thus recommends the actions of the policymakers in creating vocational skill programs to the aid-curb unemployment problem in the state. Accordingly, the increase in expenditure on education and the minimum wage as well recommended.

Abstract

Natural phenomenon which is the impact of humans on the environment management is already affecting economic system. The impact of climate change on the agricultural sector, especially in Indonesia is increasingly felt. These changes are indicated by the floods, droughts, shifting the rainy season. The economic value of agricultural commodities that were examined included the value of use of direct and indirect use of value. For agricultural natural resources that have used market price calculation Effect on Production (EOP). This study use CVM method. The views of Lombok on climate change phenomenon quite good, the majority (75%) community to know the phenomenon of climate change. Public response to this phenomenon very well where the desire to improve the situation so big that 76% would like to improve or unable to pay for the improvement in the state even though their incomes are very low at 70% below the provincial minimum wage. Abstract

The result of cointegration test shows that the determinant variables in the model with private investment which means, in the long term direction of movement of independent variables with dependent variables. Based on statistical tests, Error Correction Model (ECM) private investment, coefficient of national income variable on short-term is significant and have positive signs. The coefficient of variable error correction term (ECTt-1) are statistically significant at 99% confidence level and has a negative sign. Coefficient ECTt variable is negative means that model in the short term under long-term equilibrium, so that the balance of short-term adjustment process towards long run equilibrium moves upward direction. Abstract

Semi-endogenous growth model emphasizes human capital accumulation and technological advances in supporting economic growth. While most countries in the world lack the ability to accumulate their human capital and advance in technology, the privilege of research and development lies on part of developed nations. The increase in the stock of knowledge can come from different interactions with other countries in the world. But the crucial point to make is what underlies these differences among nations in the world. This study modifies Jones model by embedding characteristics that different countries in the world. Such an attempt is directed to produce a more general model of semi-endogenous growth to be applicable to all countries in the world. The end result of this study is to present a more general model that will be easily applicable to different countries in the world.

Abstract

It is essential to the government to recognize the factors causing the increasing trend of income inequality in Indonesia since the Gini coefficient increased between 1996 and 2016. Moreover, wage inequality, which represented by high percentile and low percentile of income, also shows widening gap since 2003. This study focuses on the factors of wage inequality acceleration through the supply side approach that follows the Mincerian wage equation model. Specifically, this paper aims to investigate the association between the return to education and wage inequality in Indonesia. The quantile regression method is applied to compute the return on the investment at different points of the wage distribution. The main finding is that education contributes to an increasing wage inequality due to the significant variation in the rate of return to education in different quantile and as increasing wage dispersion within the same education.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v7i1.6071

Abstract

This study provides evidence on the relationship between central bank reforms and inflation dynamics in a sample of 37 developing countries. We use panel structural break test and Granger non‐causality tests on annual inflation and the legal index of central bank independence (CBI), as a proxy of central bank reform, over 40 years period. The empirical results indicate a positive effect of central bank independence on inflation stabilization. Besides, we find that there exists bi-directional causality between central bank reforms and inflation. These findings suggest that central bank independence is beneficial in terms of sustained macroeconomic stabilization and should harness among developing countries. In particular, reforms should design to give central banks more autonomy in the conduct of monetary policy and financial sector regulation. JEL Classifications: E31, E58How to Cite:Anwar, C.
