Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of world oil price changes on inflation in Indonesia. We used a nonparametric regression approach that never been employed in previous studies, both domestically and internationally. This study shows that the second-order Epanechnikov kernel function is statistically significant in explaining the effect of world oil price changes on Indonesia's inflation. We found that the world oil price changes had a lower effect on Indonesia's inflation when its price below USD 100 per barrel, and its effect became higher when its price above USD 100 per barrel. These results have important implications for Bank Indonesia and Indonesia's government in response to the world oil price changes. The policies that aimed at reducing the effect of world oil price changes on inflation in Indonesia should consider the world oil price level.JEL Classification: A12, B26, C14, E31, F29, F62How to Cite:Darmawan, I., Siregar, H., Hakim, D.B., & Manurung, A.H.. Abstract

Although the Yogyakarta Special Region and Central Java are two independent provinces with different regulations, these economies were integrated as a unity that interacts with each other, so this study examined whether the growth spillovers between regencies/cities occurred in these provinces. The data included economic growth, education, working-age population, and asphalted road published by the Central Bureau of Statistics for 2001-2018. This study used a regression analysis based on the Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS) model. The results showed that there were growth spillovers. The economic growth of a regency/city was positively influenced by economic growth in its surrounding regions. A particular regency/city obtained benefit from economic growth occurred in its surrounding. Meanwhile, an increase in the working-age population and the asphalted road positively affects economic growth. However, the increase in education did not affect economic growth. Therefore, the local government needs to improve connectivity between regions by building road networks and enhancing intergovernmental cooperation.JEL Classification: J6, O1, R1How to Cite:Susanto, J., & Udjianto, D. Abstract

In order to enhance understanding about the actual savings behaviour and impulses which drive savings behaviour, it is interesting to study the micro foundations of savings behaviour. Collecting micro data through filled questionnaire from households in urban areas, this study identifies the motives of savings and the instruments and channels where the savings are invested in Pakistan. The results reveal that investment motive, higher income and greater frequency of household members joining labor force for earning incomes enhance the monthly savings rate. The results can be used to offer Islamic investment deposits in an attractive way. If the investment deposits are pitched properly by highlighting the stable ex-post investment returns and low ex-post volatility, then people with an investment motive parking their savings in fixed income mutual funds would be attracted towards Islamic investment deposits. Likewise, incremental long term savings plans wherein periodic investments increase over a period of time can be offered given that monthly savings rate are found to be positively associated with income. Finally, joint investment accounts can be offered given the finding that monthly savings rate is higher in households with greater number of earning members in family.JEL Classification: G11, G21, G23How to Cite:Shaikh, S. Abstract

This study seeks to see the relationship between the human development index (HDI) and gross regional domestic product (GRDP) variables on the happiness of economic growth data for provinces in Indonesia. The method used in this research is regression and path analysis.  This study proves that happiness is not caused by the income (GRDP) of a region but rather significantly by one of the dimensions of HDI, namely the education dimension. The relationship through the variable between using path analysis through the indirect effect of the GRDP intermediary also significantly affects the education dimension. About 60% of the variable quality of education plays a role in happiness. If the effect is through an intermediary variable, the real influence of the variable quality of education on happiness is 65%. Other variables such as health and economy, directly or indirectly, do not significantly affect the level of happiness.JEL Classification: I3, E5, R10How to Cite:Rizal, S., & Fitrianto, A. (2021). Abstract

Asthma and Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) is one of the most chronic respiratory diseases children suffer. According to the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) in 2018, the prevalence rate of asthma is between 1-18 percent of the total population in each country. This study aims to analyze the effect of childhood-asthma and ARI history on educational attainment. We use data from Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 1993 and 2014. The Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression method was used to assess that effect. The results indicate childhood-asthma and ARI history do not affect a person’s educational attainment in adulthood. How to Cite:Widodo, Shelby D., & Azis, Muhammad K., (2022). Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the demographic and behavioral factors that significantly affect the credit card Non-Performing Loan (NPL). This study is carried out to provide managerial recommendations for controlling credit card NPL. This study uses secondary data from Indonesia’s most significant private bank with 100,000 samples of cardholder data. Demographic factors and cardholder behavior that significantly influence credit card NPL can be used to improve the credit scoring system for new cardholders and as indicators for a behavior scoring system for existing cardholders. This research uses a probability stratified random sampling technique. Logistic regression uses demographic factors and cardholder behavior significantly affected credit card NPL. According to the logistic regression model, cardholder behavior was more likely to NPL than demographic characteristics. The number of credit cards showed the highest credit card NPL probability. How to Cite:Achsan, Wahid, Achsani, N. A, & Bandono, Bayu. (2022). Abstract

Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No 44/2016 states that in the vegetable and animal crude oil industry, copra industry, coconut oil industry, palm oil industry, foreign ownership is limited at a maximum of 95 percent. These industries are included in the edible oil, vegetable and animal fats industry (ISIC 104). This study analyzes the effect of foreign ownership share on the trade propensity in the edible oil, vegetable and animal fats industry in Indonesia using the Tobit model. The data used are the cross-section data from 2015 Annual Survey of the Manufacturing industry from Statistics Indonesia. The results show that firms with foreign ownership share of more than 95 percent have the same export propensity with foreign ownership of between 50 and 95 percent. However, the import propensity of firms with foreign ownership between 50 and 95 percent is the lowest compared to other ownership. The government should continue to restrict foreign ownerhip shares at the maximum of 95 percent in this industry. How to Cite:Nauly, D. (2022). Abstract

Infrastructure is a part of accelerating economic growth. The construction of toll roads can provide positive and negative impacts. The existence of toll roads can reduce transportation and production costs, which will increase domestic and international market efficiency. However, the construction of toll roads is feared can kill small businesses. Studies of the effect of operational exit tolls on welfare are still limited in Indonesia. This study was conducted to identify the impact of toll roads on community welfare in the Pandaan-Malang exit tolls area. Using paired t-test and the cluster analysis method showed that the positive and negative impacts of toll roads construction on the community in the exit tolls area are varied for each cluster. This study can be used as the basis for formulating policies for communities affected by operational exit tolls, in particular. Creating new economic centers in the exit tolls based on local uniqueness can minimize the negative impacts on communities. How to Cite:Dwiputri, I.N., Allo, A.G., Yusida, E. & Seprillina, L. (2022). Abstract

This study intends to understand vote based on economic evaluation at the 2019 presidential election in which Joko Widodo was incumbent, and Prabowo was the challenger. This paper argues that the presidential election in 2019 is a political arena where the voters assess the incumbent government’s economic policies, one of which is redistributive. Redistributive policies are understood as government policies intended to reduce the gap between the rich and poor people or inequality. This empirical study uses merged data from BPS, Bappenas, and the KPU. By employing a unique dataset, the originality of this study is located on the relevance of redistributive policies in political contestation. This study estimates the outcome of the presidential election using the ordinary least square (OLS) method. It points out that reducing inequality at the district level influenced the presidential election result. This paper stresses that the capability of the government to reduce inequality determines the result of the election. How to Cite:Prasetyawan, W. (2022). Abstract

Special attention in the future will emphasize patterns or studies that are relevant and new in highlighting sustainable economic growth. We seek to identify the role of factors outside of fiscal and monetary policy on economic growth in Indonesia, such as happiness, demographic pressures, labor force, and human development. For this purpose, the OLS method has presented time-series data (2015-2019). Prediction studies show that happiness, demographic pressures, and human development can increase economic growth in a significant direction. Another finding is that the labor force cannot significantly control economic growth, slowly decreasing growth with a negative slope. Practical contributions to developing countries can account for endogenous (internal) growth over the long term. The quality of human resources must prioritize productivity, income, and real welfare. The government needs to plan a policy framework oriented to the fiscal and monetary side. How to Cite:Irwansyah, I., Paminto, A., Ilmi, Z., Darma, D. C., & Ulfah, Y. (2022).
